I seek information on the origin and parentage of Eliza Merritt (1788/9-1814), who on June 20, 1809, married at Combahee, S.C., Christopher Williman (1783-1864) of Charleston and High Hills, Sumter Co., S.C. At the time of her marriage a newspaper called her "the accomplished Miss Eliza Merritt." Her father is said to have been James Merritt, but I know nothing further.
