    1. Phebe Merritt of NYC
    2. I am researching my great great great grandmother Phebe Merritt who was born about "1873 on Long Island" according to Greenwood Cemetery records. I was cautioned that L.I. then included most of what today is Brooklyn as well as all of L.I. Phebe Merritt married Captain James H. Goodday a sea captain. He died in Trieste in 1837. They had children Catherine Jane Goodday born about 1799, James Goodday, Hannah Maria Goodday born November 8, 1810, and William H. Goodday born about 1813. Phebe Merritt Goodday lived in NYC, Shrewsbury, New Jersey, and finally Brooklyn, NY where she died on September 7, 1856. Her will was filed in Kings County October 28, 1859. In it she mentions her deceased son James. Her grandson George Goodday, and a child of her daughter Catherine (wife of Robert Hart), and son William Goodday. Hannah Maria Goodday died at age 11. Any connections to anyone on this list? Thanks for reading through! Marianne

    1. Reposting Interests
    2. Rhonda Merritt
    3. Hi Everyone, Just reposting my Merritt interests, all in Australia, mainly Queensland: Thomas Merritt married Susan Kaick - had son Charles (d 15 Dec 1880, Toowoomba). We think that Charles was a British convict to Austalia in the early 1800's. Charles married Sarah Baker (AKA Sarah Brompton) on 18 Aug 1867. They had the following children: George Merritt (my g-grandfather), b 10-07-1868, Toowoomba, d 04-04-1928, Alpha Charlotte Merritt, b 25-12-1870, d 1871 (probably Toowomba) John Goodwin Merritt, b 17-08-1872, Toowoomba, died Brisbane Harriet Merritt, b 03-01-1874, married Edward Thomas in 1890's Alice Goodwin Merritt, b 10-04-1875, d 30-09-1889, Toowoomba Mary Goodwin Merritt, b 18-08-1876, d 16-02-1877, Toowoomba Ethel Georgina Merritt, b 23-09-1877 Edward Goodwin Merritt, b 29-06-1879, d 19-06-1934 Eliza Merritt, d 29-05-1885, Toowoomba Archibald Merritt, d 14-02-1928 My grandfather was Edward James Merritt, b 02-08-1895 in Hughenden. His brother was George William Merritt, b 18-11-1897 in Rockhampton, and his sister was Edith Margaret Merritt (married name Harrop), b 23-05-1899, Barcaldine. The only other family we know of is John Goodwin Merritt's - he had 6 children that we can recall - Maime (married name Best), Glennie Clinton (married name Boyle), Emily (married name Trevor), Ethel Grace Donald (married name Gooding), ? (married name Mahoney), and ? (married name Bell). The Merritts are a big mystery to us, and I would love to find anyone with connections to my branch of them. Rhonda Merritt, Mareeba, QLD, Australia.

    2. Mark A. Merritt
    3. Charles Bolton submitted a great deal of MERRITT information to the LDS IGI, back when the Mormon Church made a big push for their members to submit genealogical data. I haven't figured out who he is, but I can tell you that I have seen his claim to relationship on many MERRITT entries, and it seems implausible that he was related to them all. Researchers have not yet proven a connection between the 1600's Colonial lines of Thomas Merritt (NY), Henry Merritt (MA), William Merritt (MD) and Samuel Merritt (MD), yet Mr. Bolton seemed to think he was related to individuals in each one. I think he was a bit over-zealous, and I wouldn't knock myself out chasing him down. Films that I have examined at the local FHC that reference Bolton have proved genealogically worthless - just compendia of names in LDS Baptisms for the dead, etc. I have my own Mormon connections - my father's mother was from a Mormon family (BASSETT and HENRIOD/HENROID), and a STEWART line from Maryland that carried the given name Merritt became Mormon (the namesake was for my Arthur Miller Merritt, who m. Julianna Stewart) - and so perhaps Mr. Bolton connected to my tree, but I haven't located him yet. For more information regarding my research, please visit www.merrittfamily.org Regards, Mark At 09:35 10-05-01 -0700, you wrote: >My face is red....I asked for anyone who had ties to Gilbert >Merritt........It turns out that I didn't read my notes closely >enough....the relative I shoud have listed in the message >was.........Charles G. 3. Hi Judy, Thanks for your reply. I can't say that I know of any Albert and Ellen Merritts, but at least it is in the right area - Qld. My Merritts originate from Toowoomba, but I don't know where from before that, although I have a few suspicions. The names I have are George (my great-grandfather), Charles and Sarah (George's parents), Charlotte, John, Harriett, Alice, Mary, Ethel, Edward, Eliza and Archibald (George's siblings). Charles' parents names were Thomas and Susan, but don't know if they were ever in Australia. 3. Does anyone have any info on a Henry F. Meritt b. 1820 in Truxton Co., NY. Actually, I'd appreciate any input about Merritts in the Truxton area. I'm hoping some little clue will help break down my brick wall. Henry musy have lived in that area at least 20 some years. He was married in Nelson, Madison Co., NY in 1842 to Harriet Easton and his first few children were born in NY...one in Allegany Co. About 1847, he moved to WI where he died in 1864 from disease he acquired in the Civil War. Please, if you have any data on anyone possibly connected to him, let me know. Thanks, Joanne

    3. Sandy, Genforum is out of CA. If they were to do this they would be breaking the law. When you read their privacy statement they spell it out. What you enter there is copyrighted by GenForum. This copyright protects you as well as them. If someone takes the information you submit and uses it, say for profit, they can be legally sued by Gen and us. Without the copyright the info is up for grabs. Besides that, why steal it when everyone is sending it to them. Our site is copyrighted, we put the info there for genealogists and family to use knowing that we can make mistakes. But mostly to keep it from being sold. The bottom line I believe is to be careful, use your head, do not believe everything you hear, check out information. Ancestry.com has documents that are good. I am on my 2nd 3 month sub. 19.95, and it has been worth it for me. Some will find very little. I have been lucky in my husbands Braswell line as a lot of hard work was done before me! Our daughter and I are verifying everything possible. Where the problem on the www is, is with the Pedigrees. They are done and submitted by everyone and a lot of information is wrong. Still even that gives you a place to start if they include deed or will information. The 1650 pedigree records of the Braswells in VA is hysterical, it is so wrong. Hope this helps. Now help me find parents of my gg-grandfather James Robert Merritt m to Oregon Sloan, Lake Co. Florida! <grin> Sandra Hammock wrote: > Liz, > I got the following message about FTM on another group.
