    1. [MEREDITH-L] Samuel Meredith, Jr. (Col. and brother in law of Patrick Henry)
    2. L. Hurston Anderson, PhD
    3. Samuel Meredith who purchased the estate "Winton" in Clifford (New Glasgow), VA from Cabell (forget which one) was listed in a list of Old Albemarle/Old Amherst as one of 7 Merediths of the era 1740-1776 (?). The list is below as written by Alexander Brown. Meredith James attny 1747 au Mr. _______ a. Mr. _______ a. Rice a. 1745 Saml Sr. au. Saml Jr. b. sr. au William au. 1794 Apparently, "au" means there was an autograph before 1800. Not sure about that. "a" means in Old Albemarle before 1761. "b" means Old Amherst (1761-1776) which was split from Albemarle in 1761. "sr" means Rev War vet. I think Samuel Sr. is father of Samuel Jr. of Winton. Samuel Jr. apparently had a brother named William. Maybe that is who the William is. Can anyone claim the others? In particular, I am rather sure that Rice is the Rice Meredith whose daughter Esther married Leonard Ballou who is also on Alexander Brown's list. What would really be helpful would be to place his relationship (if any) to the other Merediths in the area. Any help?
