My Junior Meredith, and my great great grandmother Elizabeth Meredith lived in East Texas, mostly Cherokee County, from 1850 until there deaths. There mother Winniford Meredith came here with them in 1850 without there father and hadn't been able to find out her maiden name or his name. But now that the Gen. Web is going strong I was able to find where she married a David Meredith in Illinois. Her daughter Elizabeth named her own daughter after Winniford, She named her Winniford Martin Gentry. From that I knew that Winnifords Maiden must have been Martin. So I looked in all of the Illinois marriage records from the time that she should have been married and found Winniford Martin and David Meredith and there marriage date. However I haven't found where he must havee died either there or on the way here. But with a lot of prayers and work I WILL. Notify Administrator about this message? I am SO happy to hear from YOU!! I have been working off and on the our Meredith family for years and years and have not had a single person to work with. Bless YOU! Our Merediths, Winnifred,(don't know about Mary Jane's Dad) Mary Jane,b.Nov 1828, Junior, Elizabeth, Noah and Martha came to TX from Illinois, floating down the Mississippi on a flat boat in 1839. Winny applied for Headrights in Aug, 1839 in TX. In order to do that she had to be HEAD of HOUSEHOLD, so she was a widow. I am thrilled that you figured out that Winnifred was Winnifred Martin using her granddaughter's name! That was SMART!! Winnny left a Will (1874) in Cherokee Co.TX., which names her children.
