I am curious if you know of a connection between Reese Meredith the merchant whose family was so indelibly tied up with our nation's early days in the Quaker areas. Samuel Meredith was Secy of Treasury, I believe, and married a very socially prominent Cadwalader. Ann Meredith married Hill who was closely associated with Ben Franklin, and Margaret married into another very prominent family, the Clymers. About the same timeperiod in Virginia (old Amherst Co, near was Samuel Meredith (Col, I think) who married Patrick Henry's sister and lived in Winton before moving to Kentucky. At that same time, there was living in old Amherst Co, Va another Reese Meredith (or Rice). To be honest, it is this Rice/Reese/Rhys Meredith that interests me. Do these names Samuel and Reese occur so frequently due to Welsh naming conventions, or is there a connection? Any idea? Thanks. Hurston Anderson
