Happy good morning to Jack, Ron + many of the folks seeking information about the above surname. The only problem is that this list is a little old in the whiskers..so many have either found their answers here on EARTH or in HEAVEN. It would indeed be great if you could find someone with a DNA link. I realize the significance of having a direct link of males with MEREDITH/MERIDETH surnames to conduct the DNA test(s). I added another list for your convenience...You can either delete or add as you see fit. Hello Jack, I believe this is the site you us The question is if I submit a request for a test on the surname MEREDITH Would my result, of my submission, be applied to the MEREDITH list? Please give me the details of how my tests would be relayed to me and to the list of other people looking for a DNA link. I believe the results would be not only valuable to me but I could see if any other links, of this surname, are on the list. In other words your name has to be Meridith if you are trying to trace the Merideth line using DNA. If there is a female in your direct line to Meridiths it breaks the chain. Your gggrandmother was Helena Merideth & gggrandfather was Frank Edwards, Females do not receive the Y dna from their father so Helena did not receive Nutter's y DNA and can not pass it down the line. The Y dna that was passed to the children of Frank & Helena was Edwards. His dna would be passed to all male descendants but not to females. In short the only DNA which is passed unchanged from generation to generation is the Y DNA & it is only present in the males. Your Y Dna is the same as your father, grandfather, ggrandfather, gggrandfather etc. Y DNA is tested and results are compared with others to determine if you have a common male ancestor. Jack & I tested to try & determine if Taylor Merideth connected to Jack's line of Merediths which so far traces to Obediah Meredith, Job Meredith, Robert Meredith jr. & Robert Meredith sr. It seems there is no connection since there are three of 12 markers different between the two of us. If you know any male researchers named Meredith they would be a candidate to be tested. Female researchers who have a living brother, father, grandfather, uncle, male cousin, etc named Meredith could get one of them tested. If anyone matched my DNA it would only mean there is a common ancestor somewhere back in history or even prehistory. Hope that's not too confusing. Ron
