They cover a time period of 1801 thru July of 1836. The first marriage was found in Fairfield County in November 1800 (Recorders Office, Deed Book A). A license is not recorded for all marriages and marriage returns are not available for all licenses issued. (It worked the same as today. You obtained a marriage license and then after the marriage was performed, the pastor, Justice of the Peace, etc. was supposed to send the marriage info back to the probate Court.) Please remember that this list is not a primary source. It is only an index and not necessarily complete. Check the original marriage licenses and records in the Probate Court and Recorder's Office. Spellings are also questionable............. I have broken the marriage pages up into 3 pages but they will still take time to download, please be patient. http://www.fairfieldgenealogy.org/research/swain1.html MERIDITH, THOS.-ELIZ.
