Can anyone tell me what newspaper were around the Bangor area in the 1830-50 time. And if there are any records around that may have the Obituarys of Hannah Grant 183_? and Stephen Grant 184_? Hannah was in the 1830 census but not any after . Stephen was in the 1840 census but not any after. They lived in Eddington (Eddytown) from 1780 to when they died. Have not found where they are buried -- their son Jordan is buried in the Riverside (Blackman) cem. on the Bradley Road a long with other members of the family. No markers for them there. I thank you for any help you may have Floyd Grant
Take a look at: ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/me/penobscot/newspapers/press/mepress1.txt I believe it mentions that period, though papers died like flies during that century. It is unlikely that there would be an obituary unless they were very prominent. Have you checked the Town Office in Eddington? They may have vital records. They may also have info about a local historical society. If they were property owners Registry of Probate (wills) or the Registry of Deeds for Penobscot County might be a useful source. Both are in the courthouse in Bangor. Tim King Bonnie Grant wrote: > Can anyone tell me what newspaper were around the Bangor area in the > 1830-50 time. I forgot to mention that there is a book, Gray: Abstracts of Penobscot County Maine Probate Records 1816-1866, compiled by Ruth Gray. Includes abstracts of Probate Records from Hancock County 1790-1816 relating to that part of Hancock County set off as Penobscot County in 1816. If you belong to NEHGS or live in a town with a good genealogical library, this should be your best bet to determine whether they were living in the county at their deaths. One more shot at your problem. I bought the 1840 census for Penobscot Co. for my own problem a while back, and checked the Eddington section for you. There is an entry for Jordon Grant, with a male and female aged 40-50, three male and four female children under 20, and a male aged 80-90. Could the last be your Stephen, now living with his son and family? Stewart Rowe Bonnie Grant wrote: > > Can anyone tell me what newspaper were around the Bangor area in the > 1830-50 time.
