    3. This sound somewhat like what Ray Sears <lrsears@capecod.net> is trying to do. Someone has to find and buy a printed copy of whatever you want to digitize. Then his procedure (just getting started) is to scan pages, OCR the scanned pages, send the OCR'd page(s) to volunteers for proof-reading and making best possible accurate file from the copy. Some obvious complications are the relative skills of various volunteers, their time commitments, aggrement on a single computer format for output, etc. If you get something like this started, count me in! 1. [MEPENOBS-L] Charles E. Laughton
    2. Hello. I am still trying to track down this brick wall. In the obit of Charles E. Laughton, it says, "Mr. Laughton was born in Bangor, ME, where his father still lives." Charles died March 13, 1895, in Tacoma, WA. He had been Lt. Gov. of NV and then the first Lt. Gov. of WA. I would very much appreciate information about who his father was. If anyone has access to the Bangor paper for back then, I would guess perhaps there would have been an article in it about the death of Charles because of his political background. One more thing, Charles E. Laughton's father may have also been named Charles E. Laughton. Any help in finding Charles' father would be wonderful. Thank you. Stephanie

    3. Hey, many thanks for the tip. I found my grandfather, greatgrandmother, and some other relatives; information about their occupations, including things I didn't know about my grandfather; and interesting to me were the number of people listed as "boarding" at the house my grandfather apparently owned: his elderly mother, of course, but several brothers and sisters. An uncle also had a relative living with him. 2. Stephanie Sampson
    3. Hello Everyone, I'm currently researching the following individuals from Penobscot County, Maine: Robert SAMPSON (b. Abt. 1795; d. 15 Mar 1862 in Dexter, Penobscot Co.., ME) m. Nancy ___? and they had *at least* the following children: Darius SAMPSON (b. Abt. 1820 in Dexter, ME) and William SAMPSON (b. 1817 in Dexter, ME). Darius SAMPSON married Nancy Ann STOCKBRIDGE, of the Revolutionary War STOCKBRIDGE family, on 25 Nov 1839 in Civil, Corinth, Penobscot Co., ME. I do not know who William SAMPSON married. Darius and Nancy [Stockbridge] SAMPSON had 6 children in total, 4 boys and 2 girls (those who survived to adulthood). I only know three of these children, and they are as follows: Frank Augustus SAMPSON (birthdate/place unknown) m. Rowena M. SHAFFSTALL (b. Jan 1854), daughter of Solomon SHAFFSTALL and Zilpha Lurana MARSH, on 11 May 1872 in Dexter, Penobscot Co., ME. Charles Melvin SAMPSON (b. 1862 in Dexter, Penobscot Co., ME; d. 1933 in Sturgeon Bay, Door Co., WI) married Josephine HOULE (b. 1862 in DePere, Brown Co., WI; d. 1953 in Sturgeon Bay, Door Co., WI). I am connected through Charles and Josephine [Houle] SAMPSON, who had the following children: Bernard Francis SAMPSON (b. 29 Feb 1892 in Sturgeon Bay, Door Co., WI; d. 6 Nov 1962 in Los Angeles Co., CA), Marie SAMPSON (b. 11 Sep 1899 in Door Co., WI; d. Orange Co., CA), Ruby SAMPSON (b. 1885; d. 1886), Edward J. SAMPSON (b. 1 Dec 1897 in WI; d. Jul 1970 in WI), and Nancy Ida SAMPSON (b. 13 Jun 1905 in WI; d. ?). This is where the Maine connection ends for me, however I do not know if any of Charles Melvin SAMPSON's siblings remained in Penobscot County, or if their descendants remain there today. I am also interested in the parental family of Darius SAMPSON, also of Maine, and whether he had any other siblings besides William. Thanks a lot. Any help would be appreciated. -Stephanie Sampson Los Angeles, CA FamilyTresearch@hotmail.com ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

    1. [MEPENOBS-L] DICKEY-CURTIS -- Where Buried?
    2. Donna Tyler Cummings
    3. Hi everyone, I am hoping someone can help with an idea or a scrap of information. This is an old, old search of mine -- a very well-constructed brick wall.... SAMUEL DICKEY and his wife MARGARET CURTIS, my g-g-g-grandparents, were married in 1834 at Prospect, Maine. He was b. Vassalboro 1810 and she was b. Monroe 1812. They had four daughters -- Mary Hellen Dickey and Ruth Horton Dickey, b. 1836 and 1838 respectively, in Monroe, followed by Arianna Horton Dickey and Elizabeth Ann Dickey. I think the family was living in Frankfort at the 1840 census; they were definitely in Orono for the 1850 census, when the family ages were given as 40, 38, 14, 13, 11 and 8. In the 1860 census, Samuel and Margaret, "Anna" and "Lizzie," were still in Orono together. In the 1870 census, Samuel and Margaret were living in Corinna with "Anna," now a widow, her young son Abbott P. Coan, and "Liza." After this, my g-g-g-grandparents disappear. I have no records of death for them. Years ago I wrote Town Clerks of all the above-named towns and none found any records of death or burial for Samuel and/or Margaret. I also went to the Maine State Archives and searched the records. My grandmother's notes in her Bible state that Samuel died at the age of 64 and Margaret at the age of 71. This means that Samuel died before the 1880 census, but Margaret did not. Yet, I cannot find her in the 1880 census. (She was not living with daughter Mary Hellen/Helen Mary, my g-g-grandmother). Even more than where she was at the 1880 census, I long to know where Samuel and Margaret are buried. I just can't seem to figure out how to 'crack' this, even after 25 years! Maybe someone with a fresh slant on it could come up with a new avenue to explore... Thanks for listening. Donna
