Hi all, Can anyone tell me the name of a Funeral Home in Bangor that would have been in existence 1880-5. It probably is not in existence now but hopefully records may have been transferred. I believe Paul GILBERT and wife Marie (Alice) Basilisse Fortin are buried in Mt. Pleasant have tried the Cemetery but so far no reply. Thank you, Sheila
Stewart Rowe recent message mentioned the following .." Ruth Gray's "Abstracts of Penobscot County Maine Probate Records 1816-1866" And in Gray's "Marriage Returns..." " Can anyone on the list tell me about these records? It sounds like just the records I need to look at and I'm not familar with them. Well the first title is complete and correct. The second should read "Marriage returns of Penobscot County Maine prior to 1882", though there are none earlier than 1827 and very few in those first years. Large libraries with genealogy collections might hjave them -- more likely the further east you live. My recommendation is to spend $50 for membership in New England Historic and Genealogical Society and make use of their 30,000 volume lending library, as I'm doing. It's a bargain compared to a genealogical "vacation trip" back east. The probate records book show citations to the original records. I haven't yet written for mine, but I understand that the Bangor Public Library has a set and will copy specified pages for a modest fee. A kind correspondent found my grandmother Henrietta Gould aged 16 living with another family in Corinth Maine. Guessing that her situation indicated that one or both of her parents had died before 1850, I searched the 1840 and 1850 census indexes (free on Ancestry at the time) for Goulds in Corinth. Samuel, Asa and Aaron were listed in 1840 but missing in 1850. Then in Ruth Gray's "Abstracts of Penobscot County Maine Probate Records 1816-1866" was a listing of Aaron's will probated in 1842 which mentioned his "Wife Sarah C., son George Boardman, dau Henrietta, dau Martha Ann; chn are minors under 14." (12:496, 8:42). And in Gray's "Marriage Returns..." the marriage 3 Apr. 1830 of Aaron and Sarah C. Haynes "both of Corinth" was listed. Samuel Gould of Corinth died in Dec. 1848 or Jan 1849. His will listed "Wife Hannah executor. Chn: Robinson, Hiram, Alvin, Samuel, Asa, Bathuel, Mahala, Pierce, Irenena; granddaughters, heirs of Aaron and Sarah C. Gould, Martha, Henrietta" (16:279). The list of Sam's heirs seems to be boys first, then girls, so it's no help in guessing the order of birth. But let's say Aaron was born about 1810, Samuel would likely have been born 1790 or earlier, more likely about 1780. And perhaps not in Corinth or even in Maine. Where should I look for info on Samuel? Stewart Rowe
Hello listers. These are my Penobscot county names. Daniel H. ROBINSON m. Mary Ann STARRETT 1849 in Orono. Had at least one child, Ellen, b. 1858 in Orono. She married Uriah Morton Wright abt 1875, possibly in Orono, but could have been in NH, as they lived in Bartlet, NH for a time before moving to Florida. This Starrett family came from China, Me. I have been looking for information on Daniel Robinson's parents and also trying to find the correct date of the Marriage between Ellen Robinson and Uriah Wright. (The Wright's came from New Brunswick) The Wright's, Starretts and Robinsons were friends of the COOMBS family of Old Town. James Coombs married one of Mary Ann Starrett's sisters. If anyone has any connections, I would be glad to share information. Thanks and happy hunting. Gene

JENNIFER --- The following LEE's may be a "connectiion" since they originated in N Maine. There may be still some of them in the Houlton ME area. With respect to Fredericton NB, try the records from St Dunstan's RCCh, Fredericton available thru LDS/Family History Ctr, that is , if they were Catholic. If they were Catholic, you may also check St Bridget's in Woodstock NB, near Houlton ME and Saint John's in Saint John NB. All available thru LDS/Family History Ctr. I'm "connected" to the Lee's thru the Haggerty's. Please let me know if this stuff all comes together.
