Bradley, Maine is across the River from Old Town, Maine. They moved to Bradley from Boston, Mass, but they were from the Western end of PEI before moving to Boston, Mass. You can visit my web page: <http://members.aol.com/youngcolby/brooks.html> Now, Ruth Gray of Old Town, Maine has written a few books that should be helpful to people doing research in Penobscot County, Maine. I do not have copies of them, sorry, but I am sure the Maine State Library does. If you do not live in Maine get your Library to buy these book. Sincerely, David C. Young
I'm sorry -- I don't know what I was thinking! Of course I would want the 1860 census for Old Town. In 1850 Lewis would not have been born yet! (Please see original message below) Also, another poster mentioned that people came into Old Town from other locations, such as PEI. Does anyone know if this was the only location to emigrate to Old Town, or did people come in fom other locations, as well? Laura, Try the State homepage under genealogy at http://www.state.me.us/sos/arc/research/homepage.htm you can also order birth certificates from there or the Maine Counties Map for Penobscot County http://www.raynorshyn.com/megenweb/mainecou.htm both should have resources that should be able to help you. I don't see anything promising among my NH Cooks, but you might want to take a look for yourself, see link below. I will add them to my database. If any further information pops up, I'll contact you. Please let me know, if you find further information or identify Samuel's parents. Good luck! How would I find the 1850 census for Old Town, Maine and surrounding areas? I am trying to hunt down one of my relatives, and he is proving a hard nut to crack, despite the fact I seem to have so much concrete info on him. I would like to explore the possibility that he changed his name or that I do not have the correct one. His name was Lewis Hemingway JONES, and he was born SEPT 1854, Old Town. Is there any possibility of obtaining birth records at that time? Help! Laura
I'm looking for information on the families of Samuel COOK (b. 1795) and his wife Lydia (b. 1790) both born in New Hampshire, but living in Corinna, Penobscot County, Maine in 1815, and in Kingsbury, Piscataquis County, Maine in 1850. They had at least three children, Ruth, Dolly, and Samuel, all born in Maine. Ruth was born in Corinna. Dean

ERIC ...... Did any of your Lynch folk land in Bangor ME. I'm searching for a Thomas Lynch, born in Ireland someplace, who married my great aunt Nancy Haggerty on 10 July 1861 in Bangor ME, maybe at St John's or at St Mary's.. They had at least 7 kids: Charles, John, Margaret, Mary, Theresa, Peter F & Michael. No doubt, all very distinctive given names for Irish families. They may have migrated to the Boston MA area later on. Daughter Margaret married Mathias Doyle in 1888 & lived in Arlington MA for many years. Please let me know if anything comes to mind.
