    1. [MEOXFORD] Hezekiah cont'd
    2. Hezekiah McIntire ,Jr. first appears in Norway-Waterford as early as 1835. He married sometime after 15 Nov 18379waterford ,ME marriage intention) Miss Mary(orPolly) COFFIN of Lovell,ME daughter of the late James COFFIN of that town. She was born a twin, 3 March 1803, probably in Conway ,NH although her birth was registered in Lovell,ME. Sometime in 1848 Hezekiah, Jr. sold his Waterford property and left his family. Mary(Coffin) McIntire, a "pauper" in 1850, lived first with the Oliver Hale family and by 1870 was in the household of Theodore Stone.Mary McIntire joined the Congregational Church of South Waterford Aug 1841 and continued to be a member of the church until her death in May 1879. Her children were sent to live with others apparently soon after their abandonment; Albion C. age 11 in 1850 was with the Coffin cousins in Gilead, ME, Susan B, age 7 annd Charles H., age 3 were with Aldreus Adams in Norway in 1850. By 1860 the latter wee with their uncle, John Coffin, in Norway also. Frederick F. McIntire , an apparent son, appears to have gone with his father.

    1. [MEOXFORD] Hezekiah McIntire JR
    2. Hezekiah McIntire Jr. was born 1815-1817 in North Reading MA. the son of Hezekiah and Lydia (THOMAS) McIntire. Although there is no proof that Hezekiah,Jr. is the son of Hezekiah and Lydia there is much circumstantial evidence to warrant naming him a child of this couple. First , like his brothers and father he was a cordwainer or shoemaker. Next, Oxford Co., Me Deed Vol. 45:457, 17 Sept 1835, James Merrill of Norway, yeoman, grantor, to Richard McIntire and William C. McIntire of Reading , Mass, cordwainers, grantees, conveys property to the McIntires"and is the same land run out and set by mites and bounds from said Merrill to Hezekiah McIntire Jr by David Noyes, surveyor." From this date until 1848 there are numerous deeds of record for Hezekiah McIntire Jr. and his wife Mary. Given the relocation of a number of Hezekiah and Lydia's children to Norway 1835-1850, including the couple themselves, it stands to reason the Hezekiah, Jr. of the above deed is brother to Richard and William McIntire and son of Hezekiah annd Lydia. Finally, Mildred (McIntire) Maguire, grand-daughter of Charles H. McIntire recalls visiting Waterford ,ME in her youth annd meeting her cousins," Leslie and Bertrand McIntire, grandsons of Richard McIntire and eminent citizens of Waterford and Norway,Me. Hezekiah, Jr's birthyears are determined from US Census records 1860 and 1870 where his age is given as 43 and 55 respectively. This is also consistent with the 1840 census in which Hezekiah gave his age as 20-30.

    1. [MEOXFORD] Thank you
    2. Janet Matthews
    3. I want to say a big thank you for the people who responded to my request about my pauper ancestor. I believe that the Mary McIntire is my ancestor though she was actually born in Me. not NH. But the age and place are right. The two McIntire children Susan and Charles Henry I believe must be the ones I'm looking for, though I don't know of an Adams family connection at the moment. There may be a connection I haven't uncovered, or they may have been the equivalent of modern foster parents, I'll have to keep looking at that. What intrigues me now is that they had a brother Albion C. who would have been about 11 in 1850, and I can't help wondering where he is and why he isn't with his brother and sister. I don't think I mentioned it in my first message, but I live in England and don't have access to a lot of the sources some of you take for granted (like the Census schedules) so your kindness is doubly appreciated. I also would like to thank those responsible for the on- line records. The Lovell and Fryeburg ones have been especially useful to me. Janet

    1. [MEOXFORD] Paupers
    2. Janet Matthews
    3. I'm trying to trace the movements of my ancestors and am finding it difficult. My great great grandmother Mary (Coffin) McIntire was supposedly abandoned by her husband Hezekiah McIntire around 1849 and declared a pauper in 1850. Since her youngest child had been born in Waterford in 1847, I expect they were still living there at the time. In the Lovell (where she was originally from) records it says that her second child Susan was adopted by her brothe James Coffin Jr. and his wife. However I can't find any trace of the family in the census index until 1860 when Susan (then 16) and Charles (then 13) are indexed individually in Norway. I can find nothing for their mother. Does anyone know what happened to people who were declared paupers at that time and where there might be records covering them? Thank you, Janet

    3. Janet: In the 1850 census in Norway is the following household (#189): A.A. Adams, age 30, born in Maine, farmer Eveline Adams, 26, Maine Susan McIntire, 6, Maine Charles H. McIntire, 3, Maine None of these folks are listed as paupers. Perhaps Eveline Adams was a Coffin or a McIntire? Larry Glatz Harrison, Maine

    3. Janet, I found a Mary McIntire in Waterford 1850 census age 47 born NH pauper. She is enumerated with Oliver Hale Jr age 46, Harriet W, age 47, Henry W 11, Edward 12, Frederick 7, Harriet E, 6, Young Walker, 65 all born ME. Is this your Mary? 1. [MEOXFORD] Immigrants to Pennsylvania-CD#501
    2. Marilyn
    3. Hi Listers, Apologies for multiple list posts. I'm looking for someone who has Family Tree Maker CD #501, Immigrants to Pennsylvania 1600s-1800s as I need a lookup. Particularly interested in surname MAXWELL, from 1766-1776. I know that my ancestor James MAXWELL came to Schuykill River area near Philadelphia from Armagh Northern Ireland with his widowed mother and 2 brothers. Family history says they were of Scottish descent. James apprenticed with a potter and then joined in the American Revolution as a driver w/the Flying Artillery. Along with his friend Thomas GRIMMER (whose wife was Lydia WEY) they subsequently evacuated from New York to Shelbourne Nova Scotia in 1784. Eventually they were granted land in St. Stephen, Charlotte County, New Brunswick. James never saw his mother or two brothers again due to distance. I am attempting to track his mother and brothers down. I have determined that there was an Ann MAXWELL from Ireland, who was indentured to Robert Carson in Philadelphia for 3 yrs on 19 Oct. 1771, and another/same? Ann MAXWELL indentured to Thomas JONES in Hill Town tsp. Bucks Co., for 3 yrs. on 27 Nov. 1771. So if any lister has a Family Tree Maker CD with reference to Pennsylvania in the 1766-1776 time period, I would very much appreciate a Lookup on MAXWELL. I'm trying to cover all lists in the hopes that I can solicit a wider audience. Thank you so much for listening. Marilyn Maxwell Strout
