    3. I am trying to research my Menard line but I'm stuck at my gr-grandparents. Following is what I've got. If any of this sounds familiar, please contact me so we can share info. Napoleon Menard b:May 8, 1857 in Quebec m: AuSable, Iosco, Michigan - 1885 came to Ontario 1894 Rose Menard b: July 8, 1867 in Quebec Children were: Rose Anna July 4, 1886 in USA m: Palma Poulin 1903 Anna Aug.9, 1887 in USA m: Oscar Obumsawin in 1910 at St. Josephs, Chelmsford, Ontario Honori Jan.9, 1889 in USA m: Edwilda Gatien, Sept.5, 1927 at St Anne's Parish, Sudbury Ontario *my grandfather* Alphonse Aug.11, 1890 in USA m: Regina Poulin Nov. 28, 1914 in St. Anne's Parish, Sudbury, Ontario Eva Aug.21, 1892 in USA m:Joseph Ernest Obumsawin in 1910 in St. Josephs, Chelmsford, Ontario Eleana Aug.29,1895 in Ontario Ozilea (aka Exilda) April 1, 1898 in Ontario m: Arthur Obumsawin/Simond 1918 in St; Josephs, Chelmsford, Ontario Apparently, there is another child, Leona who married ?? Ryan. So must have been after 1901 census as she is not listed with the family at that time. I then have the death of Rose Menard (Thibault) as Aug.11, 1904 in Blezard Valley, Ontario Notre Dame du Rosaire. (I do not have this confirmed yet as my Rose but am working on it) I am stuck at this generation. I can not seem to find who Napoleon or Roses parents were or where either of them were born. All I know is in Quebec, Canada. I was hoping when I ordered a copy of their marriage certificate that I would get some better info, but where the spaces are for the name of the parents it says 'not recorded' . Great help eh? Thank you to anyone who can help. Diane Nadeau (Menard)

    2. Hi Kim, She may have been the first white child born at St. Antony Fall. That is the oldest part of Minneapolis. The first white child born on the southern side of Minneapolis was a Stevens baby. There house sits on Minnehaha Park, near the falls. Did you notice a answer from David Menard in this forum. If you look through his answers he did mention having a Alma listed. I don't know if it would be the same one though. You know there was a woman that was e-mailing me quite a while back from St. Paul that descends from a Joseph Menard that settled in the Minneapolis area. Let me see if I can find her e-mail. Roxanne

    2. In my database I have a Marie Belrose Menard who married Berger Veroneau on Nov. 15, 1815 in Chambly, Quebec. This information was from Antoine Loiselle's index of marriages for Quebec. ( See your local LDS FHL for the films under Quebec-Vitals----A. Loiselle) The parents of Marie Belrose Menard were Pierre Menard and Amable Chartier The parents of Berger Veroneau were: Louis Veroneau and Amable Lefort. I do not know if this could be your relative as the names "Marie" and "Menard" were rather common. If you could trace back to this couple, I could help more. Good Luck! Karen

    2. Hi David, I have heard of the town of Greenwood and I will try to stop there when I go to Eau Claire. because I am very curious about it. Joseph Greenwood was born in Mishicot Wisconsin near Two Rivers about 1858, his parents had come from Quebec to Wisconsin in 1854. He might have gone back to Quebec to visit his grandparents and never came back or he may have moved on to another town. But Francois Ausman had been married for 3 yrs to another man and had a little daughter when she first met Joseph Greenwood. I am thinking that she was introduced to Joseph by Joseph Menard and his wife Matilda because they both were witnesses to their marriage. In a will that her father Martin Ausman left in 1895 it spoke of his deceased daughter Francois. Either she was deceased only in his eyes or she really had died. Because in those day it was not looked upon very well to get a divorce. I am a distant cousin on your Ausman side of the family. My great great grandmother was Anna Catherine Ausman she married Fredrick Harley in Elk Mound about 1860. Roxanne

    2. I have no information on a Joseph Greenwood, nor francis Ausman, though I am very well aquainted with my Ausman relatives through 4-H and neighborhood stuff growing up. The Menard ancestry is not well known, and I'm afraid my only surviving uncle, Thomas, is not much help. Have they tried checking back in Canada? He may have returned there -- many did when the woods were all cut down. FWIW, Dave

    2. Hi David, Do you have any information on Matilda Ausman Menard's sister Francis Ausman she was married to my great great Uncle Joseph Greenwood in Eau Claire about 1880. Joseph must have been a good friend of Joseph Menards.(they were both French Canadian) The Greenwood family has been searching for their burial site for quite a few years. I was in Eau Claire last fall and visited one of the Ausmans they tried to help me look for Francois and Joseph, but they don't seem to be any where in the Eau Claire area. I appreciate any information you might have. Thanks Roxanne

    2. Hi, Kim The only Joseph Menard that I know of living close to the Minneapolis area was Joseph Menard of Eau Claire Wiscosnin. He was married in the late 1800's to Matilda Ausman. I don't think he was born in Eau Claire. I do live in the Minneapolis area but I am not familiar with the Longtin name. Is that also a French Canadian name? Roxanne

    2. Wow! Your information is very interesting to me. Joseph Francis Eckery was my maternal grandfather. He never wanted to talk about his family. His mother died when he was very young, and he was pretty much raised by a step-mother. His mother's maiden name was Josephone Marie Menard, so your information HAS to me about my grandfather's family. He had two wives prior to Alice. The first one was my maternal grandmother, Bertha Helen Johnston, born 8/12/1903 in Paola, Kansas. They had a son and two daughters: Richard Eugene Eckery, Donna Elizabeth Eckery (my mother) and Gloria Jean Eckery. Richard Eugene (known as Gene) has passed away, but my mother and aunt are still living in California. My grandparents divorced in about 1939. He married a second time. I don't believe there were any children from that marriage, and I don't know her name.
