I have information regarding descendants of Pierre Menard, who settled in the Bellechasse area of Quebec around 1730. Most of this line settled in the Berthier and St.-Vallier parishes. The branch I descend from migrated to the Chicoutimi and Lac St. Jean area around 1880. Pierre originally came from Beceleuf, Deux Sevres, France. She would have been a sister to Francois Menard born 1842-May-03. Francois Menard was my Great Grandfather. He married Marie Ducharme in 1868-May-25 in Eganville, Ontario. Josephine Menard was born 1858-Place of birth was Hyndford, Ontario. Josephine's and Francois' parents were Pierre William Menard and Zerille Champeau. Pierre William Menard was born in 1822 and Died 1901-April-02. He died in Pembroke, Ontario, General Hospital at the age of 79 years. Pierre died from heart problems. Pierre and Zerille Champeau were married 1840-August-04 in Ottawa, Ontario (upper Canada). Zerille Champeau was born in 1821 and died 1863. Pierre had 7sons and 5 daughters. Francois my gr. grandfather was their first child and Josephine was their 8th. In the year of Zerille's death, 1863, she had their last child Margaret Dileymos. Menard. I have the names of the other children, but too much to list, you can contact me on the names if you wish. Pierre William Menard's Parents were Francois Paul Menard and Catherine Margarite Maricole. Francois and Catherine Menard resided in Montreal, Quebec (lower Canada) The rest of the information stems from the linage of Francois Menard (my g. grandfather) sorry I don't have any information on Josephine's linage. My Grandfather was Patrick, Frederick (Alfred) Menard and he married Mable Catherine Pither from England in 1917. My Mother is Mary, Catherine Menard born 1918\Nov\21. My grand father was a private in the army stationed in England during the 1st world war and brought my grandmother Mable Menard (Pither) and my mother Mary Catherine over to Canada in 1919. Unfortunately all are now dead. The two boys were in Vietnam and became addicts. Paul Jr. did of an overdose while in Stephens arms in Nebraska. 3 years later, Steven died of an overdose. It was around this time that both parents passed away. My cousin Nannette took her life with alchahol in Feb. of 1999. I'm researching my Menard line which settled in Escanaba, MI having come from Quebec, possibly Ste-Agathe des Monts about two hundred north of Montreal. My grandmother Anna Marie Menard 's father was Naftalie (1856-1909 - name spelled many different ways) and Philomaine Belaique (d. 1896); Naftalie named his first born son Arthur; Naftalie was the son of Oliver Menard and Philomen Delisle. Philomen Delisle Menard died in Escanaba in 1886. I haven't found where Oliver died. Oliver seems to be an unusual name for a Frenchman and to also find the name Arthur makes me doubt this is a coincidence. I've arranged for a genealogy society to do some research for me. If it seems to connect up, I will let you know.
