Georgianna Galarneau b.abt. 1870 PQ. Is it possible that she was related to the Marie Galarneax in your posting? I have been searching for a few years and have not found any information about Geogianna. I am also looking for confirmation that Nelson Joseph (Narcisse) Menard was the s/o Noel Menard who m. a Tremblay on 10/30/1827 in Quebec, Canada. Desire Lazereth Menard (son of Narcisse)and Aurore Anna Harvey were my maternal grandparents. My mother was their daughter Annette.

There are so many Menards in Canada I don't know where to begin, but since I haven't found any other Menards in this county I am hoping I can find a link somewhere. Thanks, Aimee Hand

Watt: My grandmother, Josephine, was originally married to David Curry and they lived in Muncie, Indiana. When he died at a young age, she remarried Rudolph Hottinger (in 1907). At that time, my mother, Mildred (born June 3, 1901) and my aunt, Josephine Agnes (born April 24, 1900) were young. They stayed in Muncie until 1918, at which time they came to Washington, DC, and Rudolph began working at Navy Yard. They lived on Capitol HIll in a nice 3-story rowhouse which they bought in 1941 for $800. The last time I checked, the house was sold for much, much more. I am a little confused about other children. As far as I know, they (Josephine & Rudolph) had no children together. Celina (Josephine's younger sister) had a daughter, Celina, and two grandchildren that I knew, Jimmy (James Duncan) and Celina Duncan (so Celina #1, #2, #3-they liked that name). I think they live in Florida now, but am not sure. Josephine Agnes (my aunt) had 3 children, only one o! f whom survived, Eleanor, who moved to California to be near her children, but she has passed away also. She had 6 children, 5 girls and 1 boy. I live in suburb of DC and work in a law firm in Baltimore (9/11 scared me out of DC). My mother, Mildred, passed away in 1985. She had 2 sons and 4 daughters; I am the youngest. At least I'm the youngest something, although not young (58). My sister, Millie, and I are her only surviving children. Menard ancestry is really difficult to trace as the name is so common. Please let me know what other info you have, and I'll share other info w/you. My direct e-mail address is jofredericks@comcast.net

I am not directly related to Jonas, but his 2nd wife,Sarah Elizabeth, was married to my 4th great grandpa,Middleton Simpkins on 10 Apr 1853 in Keokuk Co.,IA. Jonas had died in 1852 in a milling accident,in Keokuk Co.,IA. His son,Morgan T.,recounted this in a newspaper story in the late 1890's on his life. His mother,Sarah Elizabeth, was run over by a wagon in Dallas Co.,MO in 1868. She was apparently married 4 times: 1st-Mr. Bertrand;2nd-Jonas Menary;3rd-Middleton Simpkins;4th-Isaac Alexander. There are court records in Keokuk Co.,IA telling about the unfortunate story involving Jonas and Sarah. Apparently, when Jonas died, his 1st wife,Nancy, showed up to claim her share of his estate. It seems that Jonas didn't bother to get a divorce from Nancy, before he married Sarah. In fact when he loaded up the wagon and Nancy got on,too,he tokk his rifle and told her to step down, she wasn't going along. I believe Nancy proved her claim to his estate. I hope this doesn't upset you. But it is in court records. By the way,Middleton and Sarah had 3 children: Martha and Ella(twins) and Maria Elizabeth. I hope I have been of some help. Sincerely, Leonard Phillips

Several persons named "Menard" emigrated from France to Canada, beginning in the seventeenth century. Several variations of Menard exist, since in French "Menard" sounds like "MAY-nar", thus: Mesnard, Menar, Menars, Maynard, Manor, etc. For a complete discussion of the Menard name see Michel Vincent, Noms de famille; familles de noms (Paris: Librarie Pion, 1987). Your Menard ancestor probably immigrated from France during the seventeenth century. Keep digging to find out which one!

I am at a brick wall trying to determine the correct Joseph MENARD and Catherine ROY (ROI) who would be my 3xgr.grandparents. I have been told that they were from the Bellechasse area in Quebec (with no proof), however, I am leaning toward a Joseph MENARD who was born in 1799 in OKA, Quebec (PRDH). According to his death date and age at death, (headstone in MN.), this birth to a Joseph MENARD and Marie Helene Charlebois "seems" to fit. The Marie Sophie MENARD that you mention could very well be the Sophie that I am looking for. I have not heard of Montebello before, but I see that it is about 1/2 way between the Oka area and Ottawa area. The 1830 birth year also fits. I guess I will now have to order in film for Montebello. I have Rachel (sister of Sophie) married in Ste. Marthe, Vaudreuil in 1844, Catherine (another sister) born in Bytown in 1833. This all makes me beleive that they travelled all around that area before departing for MN. USA c:1850. If you should come across a John (Jean Baptiste) born to Joseph and Catherine, in this area, in this time period, I would greatly appreciate the info. I am so confused at this point, I do not know which end is up. I am sorry I have been so long answering you, but I have been neglecting my computer for the past few weeks as we are building an addition onto the house, and have been so very busy. Thanks again. I've just returned from Escanaba, MI, where I was visiting Menard relatives who descended in parallel lines from the same great grandfather, but different wives. I paid a researcher from the American--Canadian Genealogical Society, PO Box 6478, Manchester, NH 03108-6478. With name changes, different spellings and dit names, I recognized the problems of tracking ancestors. They did a great job. It's $30 for none members and $20 for members to trace back one relative's line back to their arrival in the new world. My persistence won a picture of my great grandfather and finding the lost graves of him and his mother. Later this summer, armed with the research info from the Society, I hope to visit the areas north of Montreal to where many ancestors married to see if I can find the brothers and sisters of earlier descendents and to find some of their progeny. Much of my known tree is on line, but now I have more to add. If you check it out, and if there are some common ancesters, please let me know. mpasko@twcny.rr.com We may be related. Thanks
