I just went into social security's death index, found Emma Greer, put information in my Ancestry.com and there was a small obit for Emma, it's not the one she wrote herself, because she once read a little of it to me, wanting me to know how it sounded. There was a lot more about her husband Bill, and she said something about going to Russia with her church, so I don't know who wrote this one, but this is not the one she wanted posted. Don't think my e-mail got through with Emma's Obituary, so I copy and pasted it !! June 30, 1931 - Dec. 7, 2011 Emma J. Geer, 80, of Albany died Dec. 7 from complications of diabetes. She was born in Greenway, Ark., to Joseph and Mattie Hughes, the youngest of nine children. Her father was a Methodist circuit preacher. She moved to California in 1937. Emma worked as a long-distance telephone operator when she graduated from high school. She met John Greer after a year of college at her church. They immediately were engaged, and they were married for 37 years. They moved to Salem and Portland for carpenter work and raised three children. When they moved to Redmond, John became a contractor building spec houses. Emma learned all aspects of building a house, all while working full time as an ATT operator. Emma was always active in the church by leading song service, driving bus, participating in the bell choir and as a greeter. She was a long-time supporter of Ramona (Jenson) Musch who was a missionary with Youth With a Mission. Complications due to diabetes limited her activities. Care personnel always mentioned her cheerful attitude. Emma enjoyed making quilts, Christmas beaded ornaments and dried flower wreaths. She is survived by her sons, Bruce Greer and Joseph Greer; daughter Jacqueline Greer; brother Rev. Daniel Hughes of Arizona; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Harvest Baptist Church in Albany. Memorial contributions may be made to YWAM missionary Ramona Musch or to Harvest Baptist Church. Emma J Greer, December 31 2011
Cost might have been an issue. I know my mom's was nowhere near as long as I wanted it, but it was still over 100.00, for 1 day's print. They charged by the word. They did mess up and left the service times off so I made them run it again for free. Some small towns have a small flat rate, like our donna's. I paid the flat rate and the family wrote her obituary. Her sister in law had told me she was going to pass on sending one in. margy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Shirley Sullivan Sent: Wednesday, April 10, 2013 3:16 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [ML] Emma's Obituary I just went into social security's death index, found Emma Greer, put information in my Ancestry.com and there was a small obit for Emma, it's not the one she wrote herself, because she once read a little of it to me, wanting me to know how it sounded.
