    3. Not Jeannie, but you can take a whole potato and cut it into halves, thirds, or quarters, as long as you make sure it has a couple of the little eyes that sprouts grow from. You want to turn the cut side down and have the eyes/sprouts pointing up. I have tried growing potatoes in a trash barrel and they did not not produce like I usually get. I did get a couple of good meals of new size potatoes. By the way I love gardening and I do not enjoy not being able to do all the things outside that I once was able to do. I have worked in gardens since I was around 6 years old. I can remember dad teaching me how to plant various seeds and plants.
