Happy Anniversary to you both, Shirley!! Neysa ----- Original Message ----- From: Shirley Sullivan To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, March 23, 2013 11:58 AM Subject: [ML] Chickens, Pigeons, & ect My husband grew up in a area of California, that at one time was consider out in country, his family raised their own chickens, also had rabbits, and three ducks. They had White leg chickens ( he didn't know the breed name) for eggs, and the had Bantams just because??? There was neighbor down the street, that had so many chicken, they lived in her big barn, he said she was strange, everyone thought she was a little crazy. They had several cats, and two or three dogs, I knew he told me he had two snakes at one time, and he also had 150 pigeons, they lived in one of their garages, he built boxes for them to lay their eggs in and care for their young. Down at the end of their street, their was White's Stables, they boarded horses, and you could ride horses for a price. Now that same area is a city, and I don't know if they allow you to raise poultry on your property any more. About forty years ago our youngest son wanted to have some pigeons, so my husband converted a old play! building into a pigeon coop. We started with maybe five pigeons, and they just laying eggs, I told my husband he had to do something, just to many pigeons !!! So he sold all of them to another pigeon breeder, our son was a little sad, except when he didn't have to clean the pigeon coop out, he didn't miss them for long, in high school he joined Future Farms of America, and raised a Ewe named Jalopy, she was all white, he won a blue ribbon at the County Fair for her wool, she was not raised for meat. Today is our 56th wedding anniversary, we gave each other cards, he bought me two wind chimes, said he got them at Rite Aid Drugs, where be bought the card, they were on special and he got half off that with our store card. I didn't get him anything, but am making him a special dinner. Not very exciting is it, but it's the way we want it, easy, and simple. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mbousman1/memory.htm ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
