When I went to a one room school, one of the neighbors was our teacher......She had several kids in that school. One day her oldest boy was walking back from the front of the school giving his lesson and he tapped a girl on the head with his book as he walked by..Didn't hurt her, kinda a flirty thing. His Mother told him to go home and tell his dad to put him to bed. Next day we talked to him about it and he said his dad gave him a whipping. We found out later Teacher was pregnant...so might have been having a bad day. When did we find out she was pregnant? When she had the baby. I think another Mother taught for awhile...didn't know people were pregnant back then...They would just tell us they were getting fat and that was fine with us. I was 10 years old, my brother 12 when brother Paul was born, and we knew nothing about it....We were woke up in the middle of the night and sent down the lane to the neighbors because Ma told us Mama was sick...Next morning, we headed home and met my Aunt Zula at the bottom of the lane..and she told us the r had brought us a baby in his black bag.There was only 8 of us so we were happy we had a baby bother! Wow! I asked Mama how she knew to make a pretty baby blanket and she said 'I just knew' I didn't question her...Geez!
