What a wonderfully interesting letter ! I too love large eggs, and always got the largest I could...Jumbo... when my two grand kids stayed around here a lot. They were so thrilled when an egg had double yolks ! One time we visited Bear's sister and her husband gave me 2 dozen jumbo eggs ...He got them at a hatchery and almost all had double yolks, so guess THOSE wouldn't hatch out baby chicks..Any hatcheries near you? An elderly friend of mine...{Eva Grace Atteberry, may she rest in peace...} taught me a lot about chickens....I just knew hens laid eggs...She said they lay the same shape egg all their lives...Some are round, some very long and thin, some have freckles, some are brown, some are white some cream, and then there are the Aracuana eggs that are colored like Easter eggs....Blue, green, pink, warm brown, etc. She said each day the egg is a tiny bit smaller till the hen lays out her 'clutch'..She said they lay just a little bit later each day..Oh, she knew it all, because she spent almost all of her time outside working with her rabbits, chickens, ducks, etc....She grew up on an isolated ranch in Montana, and had a tutor other than a couple of years at public school...The only person I ever knew that had seen Passenger pigeons......I should write a book!
