I don't remember for sure if we had milk delivered when we lived in Arkansas. After moving to Arizona in 1945, we did get milk delivered. I don't remember when the local suppliers stopped home deliveries. I do remember that there were some "milk depots" that opened here in the 1950s. You could just drive in and tell them what you wanted and they would collect the money and bring the product out and place it in your car. When you went there for the first time, you had to pay a deposit on the container. After that, you returned the empties when you got more milk. If for any reason you decided to stop buying milk at their store, you could return the empties and get a refund on your deposit. The containers were glass. Oh yes Sully I remember the milkman, the ice man and the baker. They all came three times a week and I think that is why house wives back then were not lonely because every day someone came to the house. To tell the truth I miss this way of life because it brought human contact to our house and happy people. Annette.
