Mama had to stay in bed all the time when I was about 6 years old...Older sister told me later she had TB, but I doubt that...Anyhoo...She had to drink 1/4 cup of cod liver oil every day..according to Sis...My youngest sister was 6 months old, and she went to stay with Dad's folks till Mom could get better...Ma made some lye soap out in the front yard in our big black wash kettle..and it was slimy! Dad said Ma probably blew her nose into it, but she didn't, because I asked her . : )..Daddy just LOVED to tease her...I can only think she built the fire under the kettle out front because of windy problems in the back yard of our big log house...She may have been overly cautious, because her sister caught her long tailed dress on fire around a wash kittle, and burned to death... Mama's strait laced older sister came over there and did our washing on the scrub board ...No way to find out more about Mama's malady now..All involved are dead... Later on , a pesky younger brother and I got sick at the same time with some sort of malady...Mom set up a folding bed in the living room and we shared it..The only thing we argued about was who kept the chamber pot on their side of the bed...A neighbor took Mom to town and she got us a bottle of lovely chocolate looking medicine to take. OMG! Every time I took it I urped, but got better amazingly fast..SO Mom had to put us in separate beds again. It must have really worried her to have two such 'enemies' lying so quietly in the same bed.....This was in 1947...Dad had died a couple months earlier, leaving Mom with 8 kids and 2 months pregnant...LOVE AND MISS YOU , MAMA! ...Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Wed, 15 Jan 2014 08:17:04 -0500 "Lisa Lepore" <lisa.lepore2@gmail.com> writes: > My mother said my grandmother gave her cod liver oil every day when > she was > small.
