I guess that is a term I have never heard; what is a half bed? What we northerners call a twin size? I sleep in what "we" call a full size--have the same problem with fitted sheets, but mark the tops and bottoms. It has been so long since I have slept with anyone I probably wouldn't sleep at all. My husband snored like a buzz saw, and when he got the Cpap machine that was loud, so the kids were gone, we had the room and we were comfortable sleeping in our own beds and didn't wake the other up getting up in the night. It is so cold here this winter I have flannel sheets, a heavy quilt and a down comforter on my bed. I think part of my loving my own, very warm bed is having to share a bed with my sister until I left home to get married. I remember always being cold at night. We never had central heat and that bedroom got might cold and for some reason we never cuddled to keep warm. I was more like "Mom, she has her foot on my side of the bed" and it was a 3/4 bed to boot. Ah memories. even the not so good ones. I have never heard of a half bed either and I am out west. Maybe it is the three quarter bed. I have slept on a cot in the sleeping bag, can't say I really enjoy it now that I am older. A little more of me to get turned over than used to be when I was young a 100 years ago. We have a queen size right now. That is big enough, although Ken now seems to want to sleep realy close to me now. He says because he is cold but we have the elec. blanket. Although he turns his on so early to warm the bed, it shuts off after so long and then he forgets he needs to turn it back on when he is up. I should do that for him when I get up. We were given a queen size bed when our neighbors moved. They hadn't used it very long. They had money so it was a good bed, he had worked with the FBI over the years and they owned a motel in Palm springs. Lived all over the world. She had a diamond she wore evey day that was the real thing and I had never seen one that big. I thought my daughter had a big one, but this was twice the size. She just wore it like what the heck. She had class. Yet you could stop coming back from the mail box and visit, cup of coffee, just as ordinary as could be. Her brother had bought the place and they would come and visit and stay long period of times then they bought it from them. They are both gone now. He was before, she sold and moved back to southern Cal. Sold a rose wood dresser to my daughter when she got out on her own. Also the bed. A coupld chairs and tables from the motel, all for 100 dollars. They were just such kind people. She still has them. I think it is called rose wood, has kind of that color. Any way back on track, The king size bed was really to big for our bed room, and we had the biggest with the bath room. But queen is fine. The mobile home came with single beds in the other two bedrooms. I don't know if we ordered it that way because two boys and two girls. Only thing I don't really like was ok at the time, but the closets were off the floor and each side had four drawers under them. fine for the kids, but don't get in them much these days. My dresser is one my mom and dad had. Nothing fancy, but still good and it is sentimental for me. Also have a little sewing cabinet that my dad made my mom years ago. I have always seen it around and I wanted that. Also have a side table my brother made for my mom in the eighth grade. It always set by her chair and she would have her magazines or book or sewing stuff on it. She always had something going knitting and crochetting. (sp). Nice weather here in northern Ca. warm, have a fire in the morning, let it burn out the rest of the day. Still waiting for the word when Ken is going to have his heart Cath. Seems Dr. has to fill out more stuff at the hospital. So he has to get on the ball. If we don't hear I am going to tell the gal that Ken is going to come in and do it himself. Dr. would appreciate that we have known him so long. Last visit, Ken was telling him how bad he has been feeling and the Dr. sat on the table beside him, Ken told him he looked really tired in his eyes, and Dr. took the stethascope put it on Kens neck and told him to diagnose him. Ken has always kidded him when his hair started retreating, been with him since 1984, when you think about it heart Drs. know the end is going to always be the same when you are a patient for so long. Now he sees him with the dementia, and knows how he was before. A nurse there that has been there a long time always tells him, here comes Mr. trouble, because he always kidded her, She has a band on the outside and we talk about that with our son being in a band for so long. Well every one have a good day. Can't believe the weather back east. My gosh. enough is enough. I have never heard of a half bed either! Strange though, I have heard of a 3/4 bed. I wonder if a half bed is larger than a twin size? Also a California King is a strange size to me. Wonder if that one is larger than my regular size king? I love my king size bed, just hate making it. I have heard people(older people)refer to 3/4 beds but do not have a clue what it would be size wise. I have a queen bed, but it is one with the big mattress and no box spring, just a thin base pad. I have to buy "deep pocket" sheets and they are hard to find in good variety of colors or designs. I can usually tell how the sheet goes on the bed by the pattern-so I have not had to mark the sheets. I have flannel sheets in the winter and have snowmen, teddybears etc. patterns so easy to put on right. The last corner is the hardest with the deep pocket sheet! By accident I put a king size sheet on and it fits fine-just have to pull tight and tuck last corner(my sofa/hideabed is king size) so I may look at both sizes when I need new sheets. It is so cold here in MA. today I wish I was under the covers in my warm bed right now!! We have gotten to 8 degrees but wind is strong and makes it feel like it is minus something here! Helen
Helen, We have one of those mattesses that need deep sheets & I seem to have trouble finding them also. I use sheets with a stripe so I know which way they go. Did you get all that snow they have been talking about down your way, or only COLD like we are getting? Doug, Until you get that gal to help around the house just use only flat sheets. They need to be tucked in well but it beats having to do over time & again. Hi Carol, Oh, yes, a California King is larger (wider and longer) than a regular King. Enough room for 5 people to get lost in.
