Monday I will have cataract surgery on one of my eyes... I have waited years for this and plan to enjoy the end result. Have had cataracts for many years but each year after my eye exam, the doctor says they aren't ready for surgery... Grrrrrrr On Friday of last week, I saw an eye specialist for another problem. He asked if I'd noticed my vision worsening. Of course I said "Yes". Apparently he sent my eye doctor a report and in it, told him my cataracts had gotten much worse. I got a phone call on Wed. this week suggesting that I come in to discuss cataract surgery... Can anyone tell how thrilled I am? lol The Dougster
You will be so happy to see again, Doug. My husband had cataract surgery on both eyes which was a huge success. The surgeon said he could fix his eyes so that he could see perfectly without having to wear cheaters but his optometrist talked him out of that option because of the money involved. It would have cost a couple thousand $$ more. Let us know how things go with your surgery as soon as you can. Doug I hope you have as good of results on your surgery as I had 3 years ago with my cataract surgery. One of the first things I experienced was how vivid and beautiful colors were. I had realized how hard it was to see small print, do any crafts and had to stop driving for a while but didn't realize how dim colors had become. I was so good to see things more clearly. It was -10 when I first dared look at the outdoor thermometer this morning. It was also trash pickup day. So I bundled up and got the trash out making tracks in the 6 inches of snow. At least I could drag the bags across the snow and saw the interesting designs they made. My grandmother use to say if you can't say anything nice....don't say anything at all. So I will say I am thankful the wind is not blowing and hope we start warming up. Naomi in SE Iowa -----Original Message----- From: Doug Crim Monday I will have cataract surgery on one of my eyes... I remember the day that I was set up for cataract surgery. I was delighted. And even more so after the operation. Go, Doug!! I had one eye done about 18 yrs and it was terrible. I got 3 shots in my face and one of them looked like a dagger, its was novocaine. A lot of pain with the shots. Then he accidently cuts my eye where he should not have cut it. Eye very painful after that. Second eye was done about 16 yrs. ago . The procedure was completely different than the first. He put about 10 drops in my eye and they numbed it and there no shots. A couple days later I saw all these specks moving all over my eye. I got scared and so I called the doctor and he told me that they were the cataract he blew up. A couple of weeks later, vision in that eye wasn't good. Called doctor and he told me that he would do a laser treatment on it. I was scared to death because I didn't know what he was going to do. The laser treatment was hardly anything. I could see better. However, years later vision wasn't good and I couldn't see as well as I did before. They looked like to me like they were growing back but the doctor said my eyes were ok. He's nuts just like my poditrist. I have talked with a few people who had cataracts removed they all said the same thing about not seeing as well as before. I hope Doug that you have a good experience and you keep seeing well. Had both eyes done last year (about 6 weeks apart). Piece of cake, although the idea of people poking things in your eyes is a little scary.
