    3. I have always wanted to raise chickens, but we're not allowed to raise poultry on our property, city law. We live below some foothills, I hear rosters crowing if I get up early, some where up in those foothills, they also have a lot of horses up there. I saw a Lama in a yard, when I was driving over the hill, so the people must be able to raise what ever animals they want. The only thing is if a wild fire comes through there as it has in the past, I would live in fear of fire all the time, and how to get all the animals out if a fire was coming. I was watching Martha Stewart one day, and she raises chickens, for the eggs mostly. She has planted climbing roses on the chicken wire all around her chicken cage. It looked real pretty, and the chickens didn't seem to care one way or another. I must be just a old farmer at heart, because I love the country, plants, especially trees, I love to grow food, tomatoes, corn, green beans, squash, peas, chilies, almost any vegetable that will grow for me, we have at least twelve fruit trees, and I want more. Nothing like reaching up and picking a apple out of a tree, and taking a bit out of it. We are still eating avocados, and most of our fruit trees are in bloom, I saw tiny little apples on the Gala apple tree yesterday. We have had so much rain this year, that all of out fruit trees are going crazy with leaves and blooms, hope that means we will have a great harvest this year. We have planted our tomatoes, just three varieties this year, Big Boy, Roma, and one cherry tomato. Those are the only one that seem to give us a lot of fruit, I canned tomatoes one year we had so many tomatoes. I love to go out and water the tomatoes, and if there are some cherry tomatoes that are ripe, I pop one or two in my mouth while I am out there, taste so good right off the vine. Hope all of your are healty, and looking forward to a nice summer, Sully

    3. After seeing my parents raise chickens, I never wanted to raise any of my own. Too many problems. We did raise our own beef once. But, I did like having my own garden. One place we lived in Portland, we had a large garden. I canned a lot from that garden. On that place we had some apple and cherry trees, My kids were a lot younger and I tried to can as much food as I could. I wish I could still have a big garden. I miss not getting my hands in the dirt.Emma > From: sullysoil66@msn.com > To: memory-lane@rootsweb.com; roses4831@msn.com; ddcrim@gmail.com > Date: Wed, 18 May 2011 11:58:00 -0700 > Subject: [ML] Chickens > I have always wanted to raise chickens, but we're not allowed to raise poultry on our property, city law.
