Since you have that much land , most saved for hunters, I'm amazed you don't have foxes and coyotes running around..Hawks ? Owls? Lucky you !..We live by a woods, patrolled by Hawks AND Owls...Cats..Not to mention stray dogs....AND the next door critters that get out at times...Fools just hang around till their thoughtless owners finally notice and catch them.... If you feed your chickens anywhere near the house they might hang out closer in...I think you're in the 'honeymoon' stage with them...*grin* Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Tue, 17 May 2011 07:25:08 -0500 Doug Crim <ddcrim@gmail.com> writes: > Yup, we know we don't need any roosters but we haven't decided yet > whether > to set eggs or not.... sometime later we'll make that decision. > There seems > to be a growing market for chickens both for farms and big city back > yards. > > We have a neighbor about a mile away that says he never knows where > his > chickens are during the day but they always return to the roost at > the end > of the day. We see an occasional fox and hear coyotes on occasion but to date have not had a problem with any of them... A neighbor about a mile away reports that they have had problems with owls and hawks and that why they began raising larger chickens (Giant Bramhas), which has solved their problem. We only feed the chickens inside the coop early morning and late in the day when we pen them up. While we don't have any heavy wooded areas near the house I feel that is why we haven't had a problem (yet).... Time will tell. Our rabbit population is higher than it's ever been, which suggests fewer coyotes. We'll also see how long that lasts. lol :-)** On Tue, May 17, 2011 at 11:53 PM, <askgranny@juno.com> wrote: > Since you have that much land , most saved for hunters, I'm amazed you > don't have foxes and coyotes running around..Hawks ?
