I remember your area from our many travels from Texas to MA. for some reason that is how we came back--we always wondered why the highway signs said "watch for smoke" never saw any-----do they still have those signs? Helen
The ranchers burn off the pastures and hay fields. Causing smoke to blow across the highway. Yes the signs are still there. Probably will be as long as this is ranch land. The burn controls weeds from the grass pastures and hay fields. Oh, yes! Smoke for miles and most of the time it is controlled burns. You can run into them in Hawaii and Florida too, I suppose Louisiana burns off the paddy trash. I think the sugar cane is worse. Last time we were on the Oklahoma turnpike it was miles of smoke and they try not to burn unless the wind is right but the fires make their own wind. -----Original Message----- From: memory-lane-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:memory-lane-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of helenware Sent: Thursday, February 10, 2011 9:29 PM To: memory-lane@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ML] yesterday morning...
