Hi Carol, Oh, yes, a California King is larger (wider and longer) than a regular King. Enough room for 5 people to get lost in. Helen, We have one of those mattesses that need deep sheets & I seem to have trouble finding them also. I use sheets with a stripe so I know which way they go. Did you get all that snow they have been talking about down your way, or only COLD like we are getting? Doug, Until you get that gal to help around the house just use only flat sheets. They need to be tucked in well but it beats having to do over time & again. I have heard people(older people)refer to 3/4 beds but do not have a clue what it would be size wise. I have a queen bed, but it is one with the big mattress and no box spring, just a thin base pad. I have to buy "deep pocket" sheets and they are hard to find in good variety of colors or designs. I can usually tell how the sheet goes on the bed by the pattern-so I have not had to mark the sheets. I have flannel sheets in the winter and have snowmen, teddybears etc. patterns so easy to put on right. The last corner is the hardest with the deep pocket sheet! By accident I put a king size sheet on and it fits fine-just have to pull tight and tuck last corner(my sofa/hideabed is king size) so I may look at both sizes when I need new sheets. It is so cold here in MA. today I wish I was under the covers in my warm bed right now!! We have gotten to 8 degrees but wind is strong and makes it feel like it is minus something here! Helen
Don't we all at this age "need a bit of help" I can still make the bed, but there is plenty of other stuff around the house, "I need a bit of help with" I did have a lady who would do anything I asked her to do, wash the floors, get up on a ladder and dust high places, wash windows, especially outside I need a ladder, I don't get up on a ladder anymore, if I can help it. I say go for it, if it will make your life more comfortable. My husband complained he was losing his privacy with my helper in the house, it was just one day a week, it saved me a lot of work. So I had to let her go, he said he would do more and help me all I wanted (well, you know how that went ???) We went out early this morning and had a fast blood test, while we were sitting in the office waiting, I heard a CRASH outside on the street, I went outside and there was this SUV up on the side walk with front end damage, I walk out to see if anyone was injured, and the air bag had opened and the man ( maybe between 50 & 60 years of age) inside was injured, I went back in the office and told them to call 911, someone was hurt out on the street. I can't believe how long it took the fire dept. to get there, they are about a block away, we passed the Fire station on the way to the Lab, but they didn't show up for almost ten minutes. I was called in, had my blood taken and police hadn't even arrived yet !!! This is not GOOD, there was the other car, with damage to it too, there was women in that car too. These injured people needed help fast, there's a hospital not more three minutes down the road, St Jude hospital, WHY ??? didn't they respond faster ???? SAD, SAD, SAD. Something happened yesterday, my husband had to pick up a prescription, so I asked him to pick up a gal of milk. He stopped at a 7-11 it's like a Stop & Go market, small but no lines. As my husband was coming out of the market, he saw all these clothes all over the sidewalk, and there appeared to be a homeless women with her pants down doing her "business" in some bushes. He said some men walked out of the 7-11 and were just watching her, my husband said he was embarrassed for her, and quickly got in the car and headed for home. Here in California, some times Cities, dump the homeless people on their streets, by taking them to another city and dumping them out. My husband said there was way to many clothes on the sidewalk for her to have carried them there, there was no shopping cart (favorite place for homeless people to put their stuff in, and move it form place to place. Many of the homeless people on our streets are mentally ill, sick, or drug addicted. It's a shame we can't put these ill people in a place where they can be helped, over thirty years ago, our California state government emptied out the mental hospitals to save money, and since than out mentally ill walk our street. I am sure you have read about the homeless man that the fullerton police beat, ( they got a call of a man breaking into cars down at the train depot) Well, they found him, he had a back pack belonging to someone else, it has a passport with another persons name on it, and a I pad not belonging to him. This homeless man was a crack head, and had burned out his brain on drugs. His own mother had a peace bond out on him, he tried to kill his grandfather, and his own father didn't want anything to do with him. He wondered the street of Fullerton California, I my self saw this 37 year old man, at our Albertson's Market parking lot many a time, he begged for money, and was intimidating. The photo they had of him in the newspaper was taken years ago, when he was still a young man, and before he took all that crack. This is what I remember he looked like, he had a bear, all matted up and his hair was long, matted and dirty, he smelled. His clothing was filthy, his hands looked like they hadn't been washed in many a moon. This was not the clean cut photo of him in the paper, also they said he wasn't homeless, Well, he didn't have a home address, and his whole family didn't want anything to do with him, he was out on the streets day and night. Of course his parents sued the city and got money, for a son that was dangerous, and they wouldn't have in their homes, they neither got help for him, or gave him any assistants in any thing. The police had over 90 calls on him from people he who had problems with him, he was arrested many times, and he tried to kill his own grandfather, and threatened his mother, so she took a peach bond out on him, he couldn't get within a hundred feet of her or her home. Does this sound like a peace loving man ??? When these people are on CRACK, they are stronger and more powerful than normal, the police said "he wouldn't comply" Before he was taken to the hospital, there were four or five police just trying to keep him form kicking them, biting them and he was spitting on them from the first GET GO. I am not saying he should have been beaten, but he was a dangerous man, been in trouble so many times, I am sure if he smelled like I remember and was as dirty as I remember, these police men didn't want to touch him, who knows what diseases he had ??? Why don't we have more hospital who can take these people in and heal them? Well, been on here long enough. HAVE A GOOD ONE Sully, in Sunny California.

I have never heard of a half bed either and I am out west. Maybe it is the three quarter bed. I have slept on a cot in the sleeping bag, can't say I really enjoy it now that I am older. A little more of me to get turned over than used to be when I was young a 100 years ago. We have a queen size right now. That is big enough, although Ken now seems to want to sleep realy close to me now. He says because he is cold but we have the elec. blanket. Although he turns his on so early to warm the bed, it shuts off after so long and then he forgets he needs to turn it back on when he is up. I should do that for him when I get up. We were given a queen size bed when our neighbors moved. They hadn't used it very long. They had money so it was a good bed, he had worked with the FBI over the years and they owned a motel in Palm springs. Lived all over the world. She had a diamond she wore evey day that was the real thing and I had never seen one that big. I thought my daughter had a big one, but this was twice the size. She just wore it like what the heck. She had class. Yet you could stop coming back from the mail box and visit, cup of coffee, just as ordinary as could be. Her brother had bought the place and they would come and visit and stay long period of times then they bought it from them. They are both gone now. He was before, she sold and moved back to southern Cal. Sold a rose wood dresser to my daughter when she got out on her own. Also the bed. A coupld chairs and tables from the motel, all for 100 dollars. They were just such kind people. She still has them. I think it is called rose wood, has kind of that color. Any way back on track, The king size bed was really to big for our bed room, and we had the biggest with the bath room. But queen is fine. The mobile home came with single beds in the other two bedrooms. I don't know if we ordered it that way because two boys and two girls. Only thing I don't really like was ok at the time, but the closets were off the floor and each side had four drawers under them. fine for the kids, but don't get in them much these days. My dresser is one my mom and dad had. Nothing fancy, but still good and it is sentimental for me. Also have a little sewing cabinet that my dad made my mom years ago. I have always seen it around and I wanted that. Also have a side table my brother made for my mom in the eighth grade. It always set by her chair and she would have her magazines or book or sewing stuff on it. She always had something going knitting and crochetting. (sp). Nice weather here in northern Ca. warm, have a fire in the morning, let it burn out the rest of the day. Still waiting for the word when Ken is going to have his heart Cath. Seems Dr. has to fill out more stuff at the hospital. So he has to get on the ball. If we don't hear I am going to tell the gal that Ken is going to come in and do it himself. Dr. would appreciate that we have known him so long. Last visit, Ken was telling him how bad he has been feeling and the Dr. sat on the table beside him, Ken told him he looked really tired in his eyes, and Dr. took the stethascope put it on Kens neck and told him to diagnose him. Ken has always kidded him when his hair started retreating, been with him since 1984, when you think about it heart Drs. know the end is going to always be the same when you are a patient for so long. Now he sees him with the dementia, and knows how he was before. A nurse there that has been there a long time always tells him, here comes Mr. trouble, because he always kidded her, She has a band on the outside and we talk about that with our son being in a band for so long. Well every one have a good day. Can't believe the weather back east. My gosh. enough is enough. I guess that is a term I have never heard; what is a half bed? What we northerners call a twin size? I sleep in what "we" call a full size--have the same problem with fitted sheets, but mark the tops and bottoms. It has been so long since I have slept with anyone I probably wouldn't sleep at all. When my husband and I first got married, we rented a house fully furnished. We had a full size bed, the mattress was so soft, when we were in bed together, we both rolled together in the middle of the bed, and the mattress all most swallowed us up, both our feet stuck off the bottom of bed. I hated that bed, when we moved to another rented house, we bought furniture, the bed room furniture was new, we bought a extra long full size mattress. (firm) But my husband is 6' 2" tall, and I am 5' 7 1/2" tall, and the bed was to short for my husband, and if I really stretched out, my feet were off the bottom of the bed. When we bought our home, we bought a king size bed, it was a good buy too, because in any given night, our three small children would climb in with us, they had bad dreams, or they heard a noise, or they were lonely, or they just wanted mommy and daddy. We kept that bed till about 1990, I wanted to get a overstuffed chair to put next to my bed, so I could watch TV or videos in my room, (while my adult children and their friends could watch what ever ? on the big TV in the living room) So to make more room for my chair, we got a Queen size bed, I liked that bed more, paid less for sheets, was easier to make, and the children no longer got in bed with us ( well sometimes my daughter came and crawled in bed with me, after her father left for work) We have gotten new queen mattress's, but have stayed with the Queen size bed. We sleep together, I love it in the winter, he's always warm, and I am always cold, especially my feet. I don't sleep good without him, sometimes he stays up and watches movies, but I don't sleep good till he comes to bed. We sleep like two spoons, he turns, I turn, as soon as he gets up and out of bed, it gets cold in there, I have to turn my electric blanket on. I just can't sleep good till he is in bed with me !!! Oh, and by the way, we have a Queen size bed with a canopy on top, he hates to admit this to anyone, I keep saying King Charles slept in a canopy bed, he didn't seem to be ashamed of it !!!! LOL Sully, in Beautiful, Sunny California
I sleep on a half bed, so the sheets aren't QUITE as big a deal..and I do the same about putting on opposite corners...I sleep on my side, so just turn from one side to the other during the night...Don't understand why folks need huge beds to sleep on...Have slept in a Kings size bed, Queen size, full size, and on a cot..Half beds are perfect. If I want to turn over I can grip the side of the mattress to lever myself over..if needed...Easier to change the sheet, cheaper sheets, takes up LOTS less space,etc...Hubby has a full size bed, too hard for me to sleep on...too cold , etc, etc..so we have separate rooms..THANK GOD! I think everyone in the world needs a private place. Carol, I am still crying and overwelmed with such pride and such sadness. I agree, everyone should see this. Sent it to my grandson. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. Barb
As I have grown older, there are lots of thing I did in a few minutes, that now take me much longer. The sheet thing started happening to me a few years ago, we have a queen size bed, so queen size sheets. I would get one corner of the sheet on the top of the bed, than go to the bottom of the bed to put another corner on ( I find doing opposite corners, makes it easier for me) and I discovered, I had the sheet on sideways. So I thought to myself, what can I do to make this not happen, I now take a marker pen, I make a mark on the fitted sheet in the middle of the inside hem on both the top and bottom of the fitted sheet, if it starts to fade, I just remark it. If you use a laundry pen, it doesn't fade as fast, sometimes never, depends on the fabric and how you launder uour sheets, saves me a lot of time. Its been warm and sunny here in Southern California for over a month now. I would enjoy the days more, if I knew we would get a bit of rain soon. My garden think's it's SPRING, everything is blooming, I have more tiny yellow roses on my arbor and everything is starting to bloom, more humming birds, butterflies, and the bees are out too. What's so surprising is, I am having spring fever ??? Want to get out there and get my hands in the dirt, rake the leaves out of the flower beds and from around my flowing shrubs, uncover my chairs and sit out there and read. The lemons started falling off the tree a few days ago, so if I wanted I could make lemonade, just might do that !!!! I spent a good part of yesterday, reading the Driver manual to renew my drivers licence, I don't retain what I read as well as I did when I was younger, thinking maybe I should read it again !!! (it is such a dry read), I have never had to take the written test twice, always pass the first time, but there's always a first time for everything !!! I made a pork roast on Sunday, have lots good pork left over, going to the market this morning, buy everything to make sweet & sour pork, and pork chow-mein over steamed rice. One of my husbands favorites. Have a good day where ever you are, and what every you do !!! Sully in Sunny California
Barb, your one lucky lady, A little girl to love and hold, buy sweet things for, and a baby in your life once more, sounds like heaven. !!!! I hope I live long enough to hold a great grand baby in my arms !!!!! Sully in still, Sunny California
Moment? Well folks, I had one last night. Ever since Sherry's passing, I have had to do little things around the house and most of them, while a pain in the butt, have been manageble, awkward but manageble. (notice I can't find the spell checker?) ... anyhow, using a vacumn cleaner while on my scooter is a challenge but is possible, awkward, but it can be done. Gaining access to our washer and dryer, which is a a lower level from the rest of the house, is again, a challenge, but can be done. I have discovered that the real challenge is changing the bed sheets is a MAJOR challenge. Imagine of you can, a one-legged fat man, using a cane, getting a fitted sheet on a bed that seems to be too small. I seem to always get the sheet on bass-ackwards. I seem to get the sheet on sideways and the have to take it off and start over. Ever done that? LOL Anyhow, after fighting that battle yesterday, I have been trying the figure out a better way to do it. Most of my life I've had to do things differently. There is almost always a way to do things differently.. I suspect Walter is going through that now. Anyhow, my "AHA" moment came to me after I went to bed last night. Can't believe it took me so long to have this thought. Hire a lady to come in and do these things for me! I can afford it, so why not? I have often said, I have never claimed to be smart and certainly no one has ever accused me of it. Sheesh! Otherwise, things have been going well for me. Yesterday was incredibly beautiful, I had to chase a cow and calf out of the yard but that wasn't so bad. Worked on my diesel pump and filled the tractor and re-worked a gate that didn't have the proper swing. I HATE gates that drag the ground. Doesn't that sound like an exciting day? lol The Dougster.. :-)*
Louise, they have been going back and forth with the names and they haven't settled on one yet. Thanks everyone and congrats to you Jeannie. Thanks Maureen, she lost her first baby when she was 3 months pregnant. Carried around a dead baby for a week and knew that the baby was gone. Devastated beyond belief.
