    2. We had our doctor appointment this morning, my husband got mostly good news, me I didn't get anything but bad news. I now have three more pills to take, just what I needed. I told my doctor the hot flashes I have, wake me up in the early morning, and most times I can't get back to sleep. So he wants me to take this medication, but after hearing all the side effects I might get, I don't think I want to take this medication, I would rather put up with the hot flashes !! Oh, I don't like this getting old, PILLS, PILLS & MORE PILLS. I can't eat this, I can't eat that, do this, don't do that !!!! I almost feel like my doctor is my teacher in school,. grading me on everything. Now when I go to my doctor I want to get good tests, so he won't chew me out, or shake his finger at me !!! In 3 months, more blood tests, another doctor appointment, can't eat anything good, no fatty foods, and very little red meat ??? We had chicken last night again for dinner, we have had so much chicken the few weeks, I am sick of it !!! Louise, the other day my husband made this statement, I usually let it go in one ear and out the other, but he was just so wrong, and I told him so. We argued back and forth for about 15 minutes, till I went in and got a map, and proved to him I was right. As soon as he saw the map he knew he was wrong, but it didn't end there, he got all huffy, and went outside, didn't come back in till dinner. I don't think he forgot about it till the next morning, don't even know if he remembers it now. I was sorry after it happened, but one day he was going to wrong way to Costco, if I hadn't said your supposed to turn here, he would have gone right by the street !! It's just hard to sit by and watch this happening to my husband !!! Sully, in Sunny California

    3. Well as most of you know my husband has dementia. Last night he came out from taking his shower and shaving, and said well I finally finished. I asked him what took so long, (some times he decides to rearange his drawers so I never know) and he says well I had to cut my hair, you wouldn't do it. Usually I do cut his hair. Not much their any more, but i have the cutting stuff. He hadn't said he wanted a hair cut and it grows really slow as there isn't much there. Just the back gets a little long. I leave it a little long from the top down as he has a crease in the back of his head, and it covers that. He says well it was just so long back there I had to shave it off. So there are places that are shaved down to skin and others that aren't. I will try to even things up a little today. I knew he had done this a little before on the sides and told him not to do it, but that went in one ear and out the other. Just the way it is. Of course I got just a little upset, it had been a long day any way with other things. You can't always be, that is ok. So I hope maybe he will remember don't cut your hair. He is blondish and not alot of hair any way. So won't show that much. Thursday he goes in for the heart cath. so Dr. will just have to put up with his hair cut. It is easy enough when you read all the stuff about dementia and alzeheimers that you just go along with things, but there are some days. I try to, but some days I just can't. Of course then I feel guilty I got on him and he went to bed mad, but this morning I guess he forgot it as every thing is fine. So it is Monday, getting a little cloudy, they say we might have rain Wed. night or Thursday. Well of course we have to go to the hospital at 7 A.M. But I will take it any rain there is. Hope. Have to get busy. Louise

    3. Wow some how I missed this post Doug. Hire a lady is just what I was thinking all along there. I think there are alot of people that would like to make a little money on the side. I used to clean house for an older couple. It wasn''t hard as she was in a hosp. bed in the living room so all that was taken care of. It was change the sheets on his bed, clean the bath room, wash the sheets. Clean up the kitchen and mop the floor and vacume, dust, those things that just go with that. One old lady and man I cleaned for she was so funny she would be sitting on the couch when I got there, with her purse right by her side. He would be in a chair by the garage, hardly ever spoke, she would watch tv. I cleaned her bedroom, vacume dust and all that stuff and wipe down the cabinets in the kitchen once a mo. The daughter did the other things for them. I didn't go in his bed room. I think that is where they kept all the loot. It was just funny some times. Another lady, had back problems, she had a big ranch house, and she knew how to clean house. If I vacumed to fast she would let me know. For a while the husband was in the living room part of the time. But he was sick had cancer and eventually died. They built another home out back for mama then and I helped her move in there. She had worked with I think girl scouts when her daughter was in it and she also sewed alot. She had this one room that had a huge sewing table for cutting out material. It was high so you didn't break your back doing it. They grew rice and all that kind of stuff and there is even a memorial at the river for him. It is funny the different kinds of people you can meet doing something like that. I didn't do it every day, just made a little play money for me. So you shouldn't have a hard time finding someone. good luck. 3. Everyone has to go through this in their own way and at different times. My children and grandchildren went through all his clothes together and it was actually a happy time. They each took things that made them think of him. The rest I gave to Peoples Resources. I was surprised at what each of them remembered him for in their lives. If it hurts too much right now, let it be--tomorrow may be an easier day. I think of you often.Grace On Fri, Jan 24, 2014 at 6:02 PM, Joyce Ragels <jragels@gmail.com> wrote: > I made a quilt from Brownie's shirts. 3. Hello Louise, Yep, just went outside and my chickens are back home... don't know where they spent the night but for now, they are safe. We don't get snow very often. The last snow we had was several years ago on Easter Sunday. Sherry and I hadn't been married very long. This snow brings back both fond and unpleasant memories. It will be a VERY long time before my life settles down again. I have taken care of all the paperwork and now ned to start getting rid of all of her clothes. Just can't bring myself to start that job. Hopefully Ken's procedure will go well and he can get back home. I can only imagine how difficult life is for both of you. 3. I am so glad the chickens have made it. Guess they were smarter than we thought or it was just to cold for the varmits to be out. Have you thought about talking to her daughters and see if they may want to do it? We all need time in these things. I know when my mom passed away she had been staying at my brothers house since I was working and they lived in town. Her heart was very bad and she just went over night. When I went to the house that morning my sis in law was saying what do you want me to do with this and that. It was just to soon. I took her purse home with me, but to soon to make decisions. We go through alot of different stages of grieving I think. Some times easier to handle things than other times. Just take it as you are ready for all this. To soon and you are apt to make decisions you would regret later. Wish I had kept that thing. I am sure the medical thing with Ken will go just fine. I always look on the positive side of things. Even I know there are things I deal with them as they come up, but just figure it will be ok. But will be glad when it is over with. Hope he can get off some of the medecine that is causing all the headaches. . These first 3 mo. of this year are kind of hard. Taxes due, car has to be smogged before I can get the lisence. Thank god it is only every other year for the smog thing. I am sure it will pass. Then the lisence and that is over 100 dollars. They just get you coming and going here in Ca it seems like. Take care of your self Doug. Except for Pat farther away, so don't think I am going to keep her away from her daddy. Hope you have all the things taken care of that need to be done after death. Life is never the same after that, but you had her for a while and that is something to be thankful for having her in your life and you were able to be there in the bad days to have someone by her side. Well need to get busy. Kids will be here tomorrow so need to get some dusting done, and vacume and mop the kitchen floor. Hate that, it really bothers my back besides the vacuming. Oh well life goes on. Take care Doug. 1. [ML] Renewing my Drivers License
    2. I took the written test, to renew my drivers license this morning, I got a 100% percent right. Not bad for a old broad about to turn 75, the place was packed, it was hard to find a chair to sit. This license will be good for 5 years, so the next time I have to renew my drivers license I will be 80 years young, that is if I am still around !!! They say by Tuesday next week, it will be about 85 degrees, also we are have high waves, they are going to be 12 feet and maybe a bit higher. There's a big surfing contest this week end, it will be something to see, with all the big waves !!! Our son is coming home for the weekend, he's coming for breakfast on Saturday, will be good to see him. I do miss my first son, he usually came to dinner at least once a week before he went to Texas. He always helps us out with anything we need doing, and can't do our self's. Like get up on a ladder !!! Went to Costco on the way home, much different than when I was there just before Christmas. All kinds of food for Super Bowl Parties, I am going to sit down and write out a menu, for our small Super Bowl Party. Have a great day where ever you live !! Sully in Sunny California

    3. Hi Ruth, After all the talk of lots of snow, we got maybe 3 or 4 inches of new snow-but boy, it is cold! I don't know why I am hating winter so badly this year--usually I enjoy it! I 'm thinking age may have something to do with it--I hate worrying about falling on ice etc. so do not get out as much as I want. Tody my car doors were frozen shut---had to have help getting the driver's door open---just getting crabby in my old age!!! Stay warm up there !! Helen

    3. How much snow did you get, Ruth? We got 9 inches, and temps supposed to go down to -4 tonight. I think they are already there... What have you been up to? Neysa ----- Original Message ----- From: do-not-reply@aol.com To: memory-lane@rootsweb.com Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2014 10:25 PM Subject: [ML] Beds, etc Helen, We have one of those mattesses that need deep sheets & I seem to have trouble finding them also. I use sheets with a stripe so I know which way they go. Did you get all that snow they have been talking about down your way, or only COLD like we are getting? Doug, Until you get that gal to help around the house just use only flat sheets. They need to be tucked in well but it beats having to do over time & again.
