    1. [ML] Me again.

    3. First let me say thank you for all who wished me well with my Mumps.  Also had a lung infection I guess as my family doctor said you have a lot of gunk in both lungs so went on antibiotics and cough syrup with codeine and that stuff  and that stuff makes me loopy. Well we got a call that Bob's 92 two years old Mother was very ill so he drove back to Illinois to be with her.  They put her on Hospice right in the hospital and sent her back to the nursing home  she had been living in and Hospice took over her care from then on.  Bob has been gone for almost two weeks and Alice did not pass away until yesterday.  The funeral will be this Saturday. I am finally feeling great and have a lot of ideas for what I will do in the next few days. I need to clean this house but I have never been a little miss Suzy homemaker and that kind of work really does bore me but it must be done.   It was 15 degrees below last night where Bob was and they predict snow for Saturday.  Glad I am here in Florida.  Annette.

    3. So happy for you Doug, as I have said for the past seven years---it was like a miracle-I had no clue i was so blind until i had the cataracts removed and lenses done! I had no pain, no problems and here I am seven years later-still have 20/20 vision-no glasses and it is the best thing to be able to see bright colors etc.!! Gald you had one done and will do the other---life will be brighter now!!!! Big hugs to you my friend! Helen

    3. Thank you Barb. She tells me over and over that he lunged forward and part of his body was off of the bed. She tried to lift him but couldn't. He took about two breaths and died. My son is an ER nurse. He said that sometimes when a person has a pulmonary embolus or a heart attack they do shift forward. I was afraid that the lunge forward caused his death but it didn't. It's still extremely hard for me to hear her relive this, but she needs to talk about it. Since he died at home, the sheriff's department had to investigate. They said all was okay and they didn't see anything out of the ordinary. I blamed myself for not being there. We often left them for a couple of hours at the time but always stayed in touch by phone. There would have been nothing that I could have done if I had been here and I am at peace with that but it still hurts me. The young sheriff's deputy questioned me as to why he wasn't in a nursing home where he could have been cared for. The constable is a very good friend of ours and jumped to my defense. The deputy called the sheriff who was a good friend to my dad. He told him the same thing. They both commented on how well he had been cared for. Peace of mind will come soon. Barb

    3. I don't if you heard about our 'Rocco' . He was a police canine dog who even wore a badge. Rocco was sniffing out a criminal and the guy stabbed him with a knife. Poor Rocco lived only for a few days. They got the guy he didn't look to well. The city cellebrated his life with a very long precession of officers and their canine friends. The first officer walked holding a picture of Rocco and the second officer held his ashes. Behind them was a long of police and police cars. Sympathy that went out to this precious animal was beyond belief. They had a service for him at the Sailor's and Soldier's Memorial building. Rest in peace Rocco, you got your man. Barb

    3. I had one eye done about 18 yrs and it was terrible. I got 3 shots in my face and one of them looked like a dagger, its was novocaine. A lot of pain with the shots. Then he accidently cuts my eye where he should not have cut it. Eye very painful after that. Second eye was done about 16 yrs. ago . The procedure was completely different than the first. He put about 10 drops in my eye and they numbed it and there no shots. A couple days later I saw all these specks moving all over my eye. I got scared and so I called the doctor and he told me that they were the cataract he blew up. A couple of weeks later, vision in that eye wasn't good. Called doctor and he told me that he would do a laser treatment on it. I was scared to death because I didn't know what he was going to do. The laser treatment was hardly anything. I could see better. However, years later vision wasn't good and I couldn't see as well as I did before. They looked like to me like they were growing back but the doctor said my eyes were ok. He's nuts just like my poditrist. I have talked with a few people who had cataracts removed they all said the same thing about not seeing as well as before. I hope Doug that you have a good experience and you keep seeing well. 3. Gosh you have really had a bad time with your eyes. My husband and I both had the cataracts done. I have had the laser done on one eye. Think I need it on the other one now. We both go to a regular eye Dr. that can do surgery and all that. There are several drs. in the one place and they have the center for doing the eye surgery in another building. Gosh you check in there, Have a gown on top, Do some drops in the eyes, give you a happy pill and wouldn't know you had any thing done except he pulled an eye lash out of the way and I felt that, he told me what he did, I know I just moaned a little bit and back out. Then you go in another room, recover some and are driven home. Have drops for a certain time, about three different ones with different times for them.. My husband went to him today, he hadn't been since 2002. He said with the surgery your eyes don't change all that much as far as vision. We had gone because it had been so long and his eyes were watering alot. So have some drops for that. Some of the ducts aren't working right, we will try this first, if not better than there are other ways to open them up. He said the back of his eyes are good, no disease. Thank goodness for that. So we just paid for the dialation, $35 and go back in a couple of weeks. He never wore his glasses all the time any way. 3. Doug I hope you have as good of results on your surgery as I had 3 years ago with my cataract surgery. One of the first things I experienced was how vivid and beautiful colors were. I had realized how hard it was to see small print, do any crafts and had to stop driving for a while but didn't realize how dim colors had become. I was so good to see things more clearly. It was -10 when I first dared look at the outdoor thermometer this morning. It was also trash pickup day. So I bundled up and got the trash out making tracks in the 6 inches of snow. At least I could drag the bags across the snow and saw the interesting designs they made. My grandmother use to say if you can't say anything nice....don't say anything at all. So I will say I am thankful the wind is not blowing and hope we start warming up. Naomi in SE Iowa -----Original Message----- From: Doug Crim Monday I will have cataract surgery on one of my eyes... 3. You will be so happy to see again, Doug. My husband had cataract surgery on both eyes which was a huge success. The surgeon said he could fix his eyes so that he could see perfectly without having to wear cheaters but his optometrist talked him out of that option because of the money involved. It would have cost a couple thousand $$ more. Let us know how things go with your surgery as soon as you can. 3. Lisa, Mother does have a visiting nurse who stayed about an hour and a half with her yesterday. I hired a sitter today while my husband and I ran a couple of errands and went to a funeral. Since the sitter was someone different, she seemed to enjoy her a lot. I bought Mother a couple of new outfits to wear when we go to church and other places and when I gave them to her, her face lit up. I'm sure she is going through the grieving process, and is probably depressed. You should try to figure out some kind of routine that will work in your house. There are probably chores that she can do while sitting - helping to prepare food, folding laundry, planning meals. Maybe you could just ask her - can you help me do this chore? If she sees that you need her to help, she might come around on her own. Even though she has pain, she should still move around some. Maybe you can encourage her to walk up and down the hallway, or make a loop around the house when she is up for the bathroom. If she doesn't seem to be improving after a couple of weeks, you should contact her doctor. If her doctor doesn't seem interested in the overall situation, get a referral to a geriatric doctor - someone who specializes in treating the elderly. You can also look for elderly support groups either online or in your community. Do you have a visiting nurse or something like that?
