    1. [ML] Good Morning
    2. Good morning friends, it's a wonderful morning here in California, all that rain last weekend has made my plants and trees smile. This is one of those days that made my grandmother (from Pennsylvania) and grandfather (from Germany) come to California around 1912. We now have four generations born in the Sunshine state, and I hope to live to see a fifth generation born here too. I think I have Spring Fever, most of my plants are full of flowers, and the hummingbirds are out feeding on the nectar of all those flowers. We change the time to daylight saving time early Sunday morning, I can't believe it's all ready time to have daylight savings time !! Spring is only two weeks away, and I love it, can't wait to get my hands dirty in potting mix, clean out all the planting beds, cut back the bushes that are overgrown and plant some flowers in the big pots I have around the patio area. My oldest son has a birthday in about a week, can't believe our oldest is going to be fifty four years old, such a sweet baby, lots of silky blond hair, telling me he was going to marry me when he grew up. I am going to make him a special breakfast, as he will fly out that day to Texas, I have spent every birthday with him for 54 years !! Have a wonderful day, where ever you are, and what ever you do ! 3. Nothing much exciting around here just the usual everyday things.  Although the other day a woman did say something to me that shocked me.  Bob and I were walking into a restaurant when I heard a woman holler  something to Bob and I walked up to her and and said that he was very hard of hearing.  She then told me well I asked him if I could borrow his pants.  My mouth fell open and I said Why       would want my husbands pants and she replied,"I want his belt to beat my son."  I just replied Oh and followed Bob into the restaurant.  Like my Father used to tell as a child "It takes all kinds to make the World."   Annette.

    2. My son called today..Their porch roof just oozed off to the side, from the ice and snow on it...Snapped the posts right off...Another chore to take care of IF this almighty winter ever ends..Usually we have had daffodil blooms for a couple weeks now. The buds are bravely sticking up out of the snow and ice...The Mall was closed today..first time I ever remember that happening..Most stores and businesses...Sigh...'Luckily' I feel too bad from this cold to go out...No paper, no mail....Ahhh Spring! 1. [ML] Daddy's Story about a little country church
    2. grandbanna
    3. It's been a while since I wrote about one of my Daddy's stories so here is another one. We were driving around looking at all the places he lived and worked when he told these stories. We were at a certain place on a country road when Daddy stopped me. He pointed to an old road bed and told about several families who lived close together in that area. He said the road went all the way through and came out on another familiar road that led to a little country church. On their way to church they had to cross the "bottom" and two bridges in a wagon pulled by two mules. They didn't carry a light. The mules just followed the road home. At night when the mules would cross the bridge, they would hug each other and you could hear the clop, clop, clop of their hoofs on the wooden bridge. While they were at church, the kids would all go to sleep in the backs of the wagons. He said that many times parents would come home with the wrong kids but they would take them back home the next day. He said all these families that lived close together shared their food. If one of them had a garden they would share their vegetables with another family who had beef or hogs. One man had a syrup mill and they would trade syrup for vegetables or meat. Martha

    3. Doug, I feel your pain. We were in the 70s yesterday and for the weekend. Tonight we are under a freeze warning. We have been see-sawing back and forth most of this winter. But, every time I go to grumble, I think of those in the north central part of the country, in the Midwest, and in New England, to say nothing of the Pacific northwest, and of what they have had to endure this past winter, and I feel ashamed of myself. I know they are used to the cold and winds, etc., but for them as well as for us all, this is just simply the winter that won’t quit! It simply refuses to give up. If I had to pick a season to be stuck in, it most certainly would NOT be winter. My heart really does go out to you all. Donna Peachtree City, GA From: Doug Crim Sent: Monday, March 03, 2014 9:12 AM To: memory-lane Subject: [ML] will this winter ever end????? On Friday we had near 80-degrees... on Sat. the temps were well into the 80's... Yesterday morning, about 5 o'clock, I went out for a morning smoke. It was about 65... 30 minutes later, we had gale force winds out of the North and the temps were falling. I drove into Lampasas as I often do for a plate of Migas and the temps were down to 36. By mid-afternoon, the temps had fallen down to 23 and that's where it stayed. This morning we saw 15. Can anyone tell that I'm thrilled? A little over a week ago, I planted tomato seeds. On Friday I drove to Austin to take Da Warden, my ex wife, to Costco so that we could both become members. She sent me home with two tomato plants that she had potted up for me. It seems that I spend all my time moving tomato plants indoors due to the weather. Folks, this is Texas in March. 2. Your now getting the Rain, Thunder storms, and weather we had over the weekend. Saturday we had a lot of thunder, it got pretty cold too, not as cold as you are Doug there in Texas, but cold for California. We did get lots of rain, but they keep saying this is not going to help the drought, they love to use our water consumption as power over us. They got lots of snow in Northern California, that is our snow pack, and when it melts, that's some of the water we use, and also from the Colorado River. One year when we owned a mobil-home on the Colorado river, there so much snow melt from the states up above us, that they opened up all the gates on Parker Dam, never saw the river so high, it flooded out some business's along the river that year. We got sun today, and everything looks so green. They are saying it will be 80 degrees by Thursday. Hope we get a little more rain this month ??? 3. We had 5" of snow over Sat night which my son plowed out before we could get to church. This morning at 7 AM it was 2 below--I said the heck with it and rolled over and went back to sleep. I am so sick of snow, cold, and my sore foot I could scream. I decided to give up on the doctor, the OT which was a farce, and I will wear shoes with good arch supports. Today is day 5 with none of the contraptions the doctor wanted me to wear and my foot is not sore and I am walking normally instead of hobbling. I wish it would warm up at least to normal. Spring is not very warm usually in IL in March, but this is just ridiculous. We should be having robins, and daffodils poking through the ground. I need to quit being a grouch--even my cat is annoyed with me. 3. We were expected to get about 6 to 12 ins. of snow. WE GOT MAYBE 5. People flocked to the stores, we went but we went regular grocery shopping. Store was packed and long lines. Things were canceled before the snow even came. A while back the weather man predicted a lot of snow, like 8 ins. People flocked to the stores and emptied out some shelves. WE GOT 1 INCH. The next time the weather man was on he had a bag over his head. Road crews were getting ready with the plows and the salt and only a few were needed. What a joke. Barb

A TOUGH OLD COWBOY FROM SOUTHERN TEXAS COUNSELED HIS GRANDDAUGHTER THAT IF SHE WANTED TO LIVE A LONG LIFE, THE SECRET WAS TO SPRINKLE A PINCH OF GUN POWDER ON HER OATMEAL EVERY MORNING. THE GRANDDAUGHTER DID THIS RELIGIOUSLY UNTIL THE AGE OF 103, WHEN SHE DIED. SHE LEFT BEHIND 14 CHILDREN, 30 GRANDCHILDREN, 45 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, 25 GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, AND A 40-FOOT HOLE WHERE THE CREMATORIUM USED TO BE.
