I remember very well swinging on the front porch of my Ma's big log house...She had planted Sweet Autumn Clematis along that end of the porch and had a rough arbor of wires on two sides for it to run on......We used to set in that swing and talk for hours at a time......My Granddaddy Buntin had build that log house and right there by the swing was a place where the mortar had started to fall out and he had used his fingers to push it back between the big logs...I don't know why he didn't smooth it out but I'm glad he left it......We used to stretch our fingers out and try to match Grandpas finger marks....He died 6 years before I was born on his birthday.....but I think we would have got a long just great...he loved to read, you see.......Jeannie T ____________________________________________________________ Home Refinance 3.8% FIXED No Hidden Fees, Easy Approvals & Better Terms-Free Quotes-3.9% APR! http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/4d42702fced221c45m06duc
I agree 100% about specialists, but if you are in with food poisoning or run of the mill illnesses it is more comforting to have the doctor you have had for 25 years, not some young kid that you never saw before! But that is how it goes------I really think my doctor is thinking about retiring-but he is still young(to me)but he got divorced, his sons are out of college and he has a real hot girlfriend and a sports car! I think he is seeking some rest and relaxation! He has always been just the greatest and even if you call on a weekend you get his pager # ---and he talks to you when he is on the golf course and will phone in a scrip or tell you to go meet him at the ER--now he has changed! He has always been there for us--I hate the idea of having to get a new doctor now! Helen

Put a little perspective on cost. Fifty cents might equate to two days today or say 1920 prices 25 cents a day or even after ww2 $1.25 per hour. Inflation and false inflation even more(greed) will kill us all. Bud. Prescription costs are getting more expensive because everyone wants more and more. That is interesting about eye doctors not needing all the liability insurance, maybe just the specialists that perform eye surgeries need big insurance plans. Everything seems to be about how much money people can get from other people! Unlike when our old doctors truly liked helping make us better and not shipping us off to specialists! My own primary care doctor no longer does hospital visits to his patients-you get strange doctors to care for you-I find this just appalling but what is one to do when most doctors are now doing this for insurance reasons? Helen
We "belong to" a clinic, and our primary care doctors also do not do hospital visits. Presumably that is so they'll be more available in the office, and although I can see the reasoning behind that, I'm guessing a lot of it has to do with insurance. I do appreciate specialists, though. If my husband is going to have back surgery in March, I'm happy it's going to be done by someone who specializes in just that and not by someone who does one or two a year. I remember the local drug store my mother used to go to, they mixed alot of their own stuff. Didn't cost an arm and a leg for the meds then. When we were young our family doctor-delivered babies, took out appendix etc., charged a dollar or two for an office or home visit! Prescriptions were cheap and uncomplicated. The with insurance companies, doctors specializing in certain fields and people getting sue crazy-it forced everything to go up-our doctor stopped delivering babies and doing surgeries(such as circumcisimns etc.) I bet many of us knows a person or two that threatens to sue over all kinds of things most of us overlook! I know several and it really annoys me. These are petty stupid things they sue over and WE have to pay for our doctors to be covered by insurance. My niece was going to be a Pediatrician but is a Nurse Practitioner because of the liabilities a doctor has! I understand many young people shy away for being doctors for this reason---it is a sorry state of affairs that the few jerks that are trying to get money from lawsuits cause all of this to happen. Off the soapbox ! Helen
My family doctor told me just a few weeks ago that his daughter is going to be an opthamalogist. He's in family practice and told me 50 cents out of every dollar he makes goes for liability insurance but eye doctors don't have that need or requirement. Apparently there aren't as many lawsuits involving them. juanita > When we were young our family doctor-delivered babies, took out > appendix etc., charged a dollar or two for an office or home visit! > Prescriptions were cheap and uncomplicated. I remember my mother going to our family doctor and him stepping into his little room beside this office and mixing a bit of "this" and a bit of "that" in a bottle, shaking it, handing it to mom and said "50 cents". We recovered from our illness and many of that generation are still around long after everyone was thought to have been gone. Medicine has done marvelous work over the years and we've profited from it but it is going to have to change or our grandkids and their offspring will be unable to afford to go to a doctor. I don't know a solution that will satisfy everyone without a cost. juanita > Yes, I have. a perscription that the Humana doesn't cover a couple > years ago was around 25 dollars, and had it filled again and it was > 75. Are you talking about Medicare Plan D prescription plans? All the changes should have been outlined in their booklets distributed in December, I think. I received a large booklet from BC/BS as I was interested in what their plan offered for 2011. We've had Prescription D plan thru HUMANA since the program began. From what I could determine BC/BS for this area (all States, I think may be different) they were more costly (for us) than the HUMANA. So we renewed Plan D thru HUMANA which had a $5.00/mo. increase in cost. I order several prescriptions thru RightSource, the mail order plan of HUMANA and thus far have had zero co-pay for Tier 1 drugs because they are generic. I will have to have refills before long on some Tier 2 brand name prescriptions though and they will cost $110 co-pay for a ninety-day supply. The problem I foresee in Plan D is the companies may drop a particular drug from their formulary which means there'll probably be higher cost in buying it from another pharmacy outside of our plan. We get some medicine thru the VA and they cannot - or will not - fill some prescriptions. juanita ks > Has anyone else noticed a change in your health insurance benefits? > > A couple of days ago, Sherry called MDA to refill her prescription for > her chemo-drug... Odd thing...all the little side roads in this area has the kids getting off the bus on the main drag and walking home every day...Rich new subdivision ..one street , half a mile or more long...Bus takes them right to the door...Odd, huh ? Our street is a half mile long, with a good turnaround at the end......Kids walk.....Most parents drive the kids up to the bus and go get them...I know theres more danger from perverts, but think they could all go together and be safe, out here in the country. Theres houses at the bus stop where they could go if trouble hit. Glad to know you and Herby are feeling better. At least you weren't sick on the cruise, so you could enjoy feeling like the Queen. My co worker went to Disney just after Christmas. She showed me some of her pictures, and everyone was bundled up with winter jackets, hats & scarves! It was very bizarre! Lisa ----- Original Message ----- From: "annette tucker" <annelovespugs@yahoo.com> Well Bob and I took the cruise I talked about after Christmas and we had a wonderful time but three days after getting home I came down with Bacterial Pneumonia and I am over that. I sat down to send an email to my friends and found out that Herby had croaked again.(Herby of course is my computer) Well we hae him fixed up and now I can send a few words. There were so many emails that it was just impossible to answer them all or even to read most of them. The cruise was cooler than we had expected and for two days we had a monsoon however this did discourage us as we just enjoyed the luxary of the ship and being treated like Queen Elizabeth. The food was wonderful and the entertainment good. I am better now so I have no complaints except that my energy level is not what it should be but then I have always been impatient. I feel rather sorry for the vistitors who have come to Florida during the months of December and January as the weather here has not been exactly warm and sunny. Even today it has rained this morning and is still cool outside and we have our heat on this afternoon. Annette.
Hi Helen, Happy Birthday. Sorry you didn't get to go out on the day itself, but I'm sure you'll have a great time when we can shovel out. The pile at the end of street is worse than I ever remember it. You have to pull way out into the road before you can even begin to see if a car is coming. Last I heard they were saying 6-10, but that was from earlier this afternoon, so we'll just have to wait and see I guess. Did you see that massive truck that can melt the snow? I heard something about it being used in NY, then I saw it on the news one day last week. Good idea, but I'm not sure where they drain the water? They would have to locate the storm drains first and that doesn't seem so easy to do these days!
