Emma brings up a point that I am surprised hasn't been mentioned yet... Global warming. How can there be global warming with the temperatures we've been having? Actually, global warming is the cause of our extreme weather conditions. Throughout the world extreme weather exists and it all likelihood, will get worse... flooding, drought, extreme cold. We in the US are getting a taste of it... spooky huh? :-)* On Thu, Feb 10, 2011 at 11:11 PM, Donna <dlk.chocolatelover@gmail.com>wrote: > Remember when putting the earliest satellites into space was blamed for the > extreme weather down here (tornadoes, hurricanes, draughts, etc)? Why don't you try to find out where the bees are coming from and hive them up ? If you don't want to fool with it the local Beekeepers might. Theres probably a hollow tree full of bees somewhere on your ranch. Bees of any sort are becoming rare... Honey is so expensive in stores! I paid about $4.50 per quart , as I found a country source and bought several dozen jars a year or so ago. In the store it's closer to $20.00 a quart...It's wildflower, cotton and soybean type. If only I could find some Sourwood honey at that price... It will keep practically forever, and stories of bees dying scares me. We use it every day in my hot Oolong tea and hubby uses it in his coffee...Mighty good on buttered toast....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Thu, 10 Feb . > My hummingbird feeder was covered with honey bees this afternoon. I remember your area from our many travels from Texas to MA. for some reason that is how we came back--we always wondered why the highway signs said "watch for smoke" never saw any-----do they still have those signs? Helen

Lana: if possible keep a stream going in at least one faucet or Saturday you may have a flood. The deep well at the Nebraska place has even tried to freeze. The sister in law didn't remember to let a line run, we will see if the pump froze,Joys of Private water service. So far here in Mo. Not all that far from you, we are holding fine but then Don and I are not required to do much except feed the birds and other creatures. Even the Dr. was put off until next week. And we do live on a surfaced road. May be remote but is a county line. I think we are now twelve in a five mile stretch. Bud.
I do remember when everything was blamed on the Russians or Cubans---were we really thinking they could control weather, air, etc? I think old Mother Earth is telling us to go green and be kind if we want to live comfortably from now on!!! I hope the snow we have will melt away it is all dirty and nasty now! How is your weather this week? Helen
The ranchers burn off the pastures and hay fields. Causing smoke to blow across the highway. Yes the signs are still there. Probably will be as long as this is ranch land. The burn controls weeds from the grass pastures and hay fields. Lana, where do you live? It was a year this month that we got all that snow. I think that we got 40 inches of snow in a few days and I was in the hospital. My HMO (.r/xxxxxttttw) told my doctor to get out of there. It was only the second day in. A neighbor came and got me in his SUV and had no problems getting up the tiny hill. Was back in the hospital a day later because after they took the stent out of my kidney's, my bladder went into a spasm. The pain was like giving birth, and kidney stones. It was so very bad. Miserable was screaming at me all the way to the hospital because he had to take me twice. The first stent that was put into my kidney's made my kidney's go into a spasm to. Well, I hope some good comes out of all this pain. I offer it to God hoping he can give us peace throughout the world because we sure can't. Hey folks; It could be worse. Think of our ancestors; no automatic heat, light; plenty of chores, unless very thrifty and frugal no conveniece food, everything from scratch daily; and we wonder why we can't find them? My husband's great grandfather's first wife, froze to death because of a blizzard that came up while she had her school in session.1886.Kansas but it was November. We are spoiled and wasteful. Perhaps this is a reminder to be more frugal. Really it is the cycle/pendulum swinging to the other side. Just think of the Norwegian or Alaskan people they live under these conditions for far more months than we AND too soon we will be cussing heat. -----Original Message----- From: memory-lane-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:memory-lane-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of busbys martins Sent: Thursday, February 10, 2011 9:11 PM To: memory-lane@rootsweb.com Subject: [ML] Winter Weather OH MY !! Hi Lana, It is hard to believe it is colder where you live than it is here in the Boston area! We have over seventy inches of snow on the ground and it goes down to the teens but not anywhere like what you people in the South West have had-what a strange weather pattern this year has had! But at least you will get warm weather soon--we will not see any until late April or May up here! Hope that your pipes thaw and you have no major damage to them. Do you still have cattle etc.? How does this affect the critters? Stay warm and I hope you can get out and get over the Cabin Fever real soon! Helen

I live in Northeast Oklahoma, about 35 miles southwest of Joplin, Missouri. We have been hit the hardest by the blizzard that came through here a week ago, and then more snow yesterday. Most snow in one winter ever. All in one week. Now the coldest temps on record. I'm about 5 miles south of the Will Rogers Turnpike. The second exit after you leave Missouri. No cattle right now. Thank God. The dogs are in and out all day long. I'm mainly concerned about damage to the well tank. I don't know how much freezing it can handle. But only time will tell. I've done all I can do. There is a little moisture at the faucets in the house, So some water is getting through.
