Hi Emma. Yes it must be hard for a teacher to cope with that. My brothers never sassed the teacher just blew spit balls around and what ever boys do. But i started standing up for them the day the teacher took our great bigr geography and was hitting my brother over the head with it. I heard her holler his name and looked up and saw that book hit him. His head went right down face first on the desk top. That was when i stood up and hollered. You see my two brothers and i about raised each other along with our younger brother and sister. We always stood together in any situation. My brothers both became very tough guys. Not another guy in our area could whip them. So of course i became tough to because we always play fought together. One day i wrote a song about us. Every one loved it. But my brothers had passed so never heard it. My mean little brothers becaame out standing men. The oldest one made world wise news in a photo taken after the 1957 tornado in Fargo, N.D. He then became a cat operator in the mountains in Montana. My second brother worked building big power poles for sub stations. Then he taught school in Rolla, N.D on the Native American Reservation. Then Mandan Junior College hired him . So they turned out great. But every school has its chosen few of what ever i guess. Viola.

Does any one ever think of the Coming of Christ? The way earth quakes and flood's have been hitting world wide. War's world wide!!New sickness and about any kind of cancer a person can name, So much murder and robberies plus sex maniacs!! Weather that does not know what to do or where to do it???? I think of it all the time in fact every day and then again many time's a day. I also find my self praying more also. I find my self telling tales on my self telling tales on my self that i never would have some years back. One big big tale left to tell. But maybe will never tell that one because it is to degrading!!~ Good luck every one. Viola.
There was a boy in my Junior High homeroom that would be sent to the principal's office often. I don't remember how many paddlings he got but he got several during the year. He just couldn't keep his mouth shut, always talking back to the teacher. This would have been in 1943-44.Emma > Date: Wed, 23 Feb 2011 20:32:14 -0600 > From: lolav@arvig.net > To: memory-lane@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [ML] Teacher pay > > I can imagine it must be hard to be a teacher in the tougher part's of > some cities. I can imagine it must be hard to be a teacher in the tougher part's of some cities. Like Chicago, New York and most all big city school's. My brother's were stinker's in school' Such as blowing spit ball's Etc. But that was the worst but when they got to city school the principle used to paddle them with a paddle that was the size of a butt end. Now i was not totally mean but had i been there that man would have been paddled. Because that went away in the dark age's and they were paddled for going in the wrong rehearsal room for band. The room they went into was the teacher's coffee room!!!. There were only 4 door's there and none of them seemed like they were building a bomb or any thing. My man had a woman teacher. He never had a problem but she broke his best buddy's leg. Now i say certain people are made for certain job's and if you do not do well in one move to another. I have to go along with no weapons or any such stuff or clothes that make fun of any one or thing. But wolves, horses, moon. What ever the government is taking our children right's away!! I proclaim that if i buy my great grand son a shirt that has mule deer on it it should be able to be worn at school. We are worse then Russia when it comes to so many school habit's it's pathetic!! I am perfectly sane!! But my granddaughter Tell's me i should run for office. Nope to calm for me!! Mouthy. Viola.
Teachers and aides earn a very decent paycheck here in this area-they have good benefits and I think many of them earn every cent of it--but then there are some that are not so good-like a male teacher that got into a verbal argument with a fourteen year old boy in his class-the teacher actually punched and choked the child! Not that the boy, perhaps , did not egg him on but self control is a high priority in that line of work! I think it depends on where the schools are located as to what they offer in their packages for teachers, along with the degrees of education the teachers hold. I have a g.niece in Raleigh, N.C who had her masters degree(guidance teacher) but works as a "Nanny" because it pays better than teaching job there! The medical field is where they make the money-nurses really get a hefty hourly rate around here! Helen
As I understand, the teacher pay being discussed today on the news is their monthly salary AND benefits .... health insurance, retirement pay, etc. juanita > I'm like you, Louise. The retired school teacher in our neighbor hood get's over 4,000.00 a month retirement. Then a boy i went to school with became a school teacher but knew he would never get rich teaching so he quit to dig ditches. Now wished he had stayed teaching. This was in Minnesota. Do any of you ever read the stat's on smartest children state by state? It always surprised me that N.D. an MN, were the two best one's. But my youngest daughter has Cerebal Palsy and her normal grade's were c an D. One winter we lived in WA. state because my Uncle was dying. My dau. went to school from Jan. to May. Her's grade's were all A + B's. One day i asked her how come she couldnt get grade's like that at home. She said you will never believe this ma but they say i'm about the smartest girl in the whole school. I thought i was hearing thing's. Then she said well what they are teaching now we learned two year's ago and then she said they had so many art and craft classes. Which i could not understand. Because what does art do for spelling or geography??? Also when you read the want ad's families from N.Y. and CA. Etc want N.D. and MN. girls for nannies plus light house work. Which always made me proud but also made me afraid for them because i always think like a MN. mother. They want our girl's because they think they will be gullible but believe you me that the sex education start's here in kindergarten!! Viola.
Well i never in my life had an Easter dress. Never knew what one was till i was ca 19/11 year's old. We lived in an addition to Fargo and every one out there was always looked down on. I never knew why till i got to be 10/11. My uncle and his friend had a home made pickup with a built on room where this man slept. Then he had a short box behind that and my two brother's and i used to ride there on week end's when they would go into town. Our clothe's were normally torn up with no knee's jean's with baggy shirt's. We wore what we had!! This day happened to be Easter Sunday. We were on main street Broadwaont y in Fargo, N.D. Stopped at red light. I glanced and just happened to see three girl's with the prettiest colorful dress'es on with Hats. Then one of them noticed me and she started to laugh at me. The other two girl's looked and were laughing also. But not as bad as the first girl. Well we had our favorite sanwich's with us and i opened one of mine jumped off that truck and smeared mustard and lard all over her from the front to the back of her dress then the hem of her skirt to the hat on her head. Then my brother yelled and i jumped back on the truck. But you could see the other two girl's laughing at their friend. Then i felt sorry for her to think her own friends would not stick up for her and i then wished i had not done it to her. But that's what make's the world go round. Viola.
I'm like you, Louise. Any teacher that I know of never made that much money in the public schools. I remember making the girls Easter dresses. Would buy new shoes and socks, but made there dresses. Usually fancy with the big underskirt underneath sticking out ten feet, seemed like it when they all got in the car. Usually bought the boys clothes. I never could do a good shirt collar on a boys shirt. I can but always had a time with it. But loved making the girls dresses. All with lace usually trimming and it was always fun to make. My son in law when they had there little girl, didn't like home made clothes. He always thought that home made made him think of being poor. I would have loved to make her little dresses, although in the end she was a tom boy. Always picking up bugs, when she was barley walking I had her in the yard and she was picking up the little rolly polly bugs and wanted to save them for mom and dad. A picture I have of her, that I just love is her in the field with lots of wild flowers and picking the indian paint brush. She turned out to be a school teacher. Now pg. with her baby ready to pop any time. I just heard part of it on the radio the other day where some one was saying that school teacher make 100,000 a year. Well I don't know where that is, maybe big time college professors, but she sure never made that much. Even teaching in a poor school, with alot of migrant workers and come and go kids. The teachers made more there than some places. she enjoyed the teaching but felt so sorry for the ones you knew were not going to get any help at home, or if they were sleeping in the cars. Parent were, or some times just the mothers and were on drugs. So hard to help those kids. Well kind of got off that subject, guess better get something done. Supposed to have snow or rain tomorrow. I have several good friends in Christchurch and the general area and have been talking to them online-terrible -one young woman has been married only a couple of months but has children from previous marriage and she just held her breath until the children came home and then had to wait for her husband to get home-now she said they are not getting out of her sight! They had considerable damage but things can be fixed-but the streets etc and the city is such a mess-looks like a war zone! My prayers to all in the world suffering from the terrible things going on---what is going on with all the earthquakes, floods, frigid temps, etc? Mother nature is warning us to be kind to Mother Earth! People in this area that lost a daughter to the earthquake in Haiti have gone there to build an orphanage in her memory--they plan to be gone for several years. They said there is no way to describe the horror and way people live there----unbelievable! I guess some aftershocks are nearly as bad as the quake itself! Helen
I loved Easter and getting all new clothes, hat, shoes and gloves! Until I was ten, my great-grandfather took me shopping to a children's dress shop for my dress-he loved to buy dresses and little hats and purses for me. All girls had to have gloves for church---my favorite dress was when I was about nine and it was ruffled and frilly and pink and white-white socks and white Mary Jane's. My Dad's family had a little farm and we would go hunt in the hayloft for Easter eggs after church on Easter! Then we all had the big ham dinner and wonderful desserts. They had a cow and we always had fresh whipped cream on desserts! I was lucky , I had all four great-grandfathers for a while-so knew them all! I was the first grand and great-grandchild all around-so I was well loved and very spoiled! Helen
Oh yes, I immediately prayed her safe...they are still getting aftershocks from that big one last year....We must all pray her safe.....her life will never be the same...That town looks like a total loss, when you factor in previous earthquake damage, aftershocks, etc...Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Tue, 22 Feb 2011 07:36:12 -0800 (PST) annette tucker <annelovespugs@yahoo.com> writes: > > A little while ago I turned on the news and heard of the Earthquake > in New Zealand and immediately thought of Helen McNamara who lives > in Christchurch, New Zealand and hope that she and her family are > fine. The weather story in Ohio is strange. A week ago we had temps in the high 50's after a month of snow and cold. Everything melted and we were anticipating an early spring. Yesterday it turned cold and the freezing rain started followed by snow, snow, snow. We had a white out for two hours. We were back to shoveling snow this morning. It was 16 degrees. It's going to warm up for a day or so and then more snow, ice, etc. Winter doesn't want to give up. I can't wait for spring!
