    3. This brought back the memory of when I was 8 years old we had the ice man visit our house three times a week and he would carry a big block of ice and put it in the ice box and every once in a while I will still say puit the milk back in the ice box.  It did keep the food cool and nothing spoiled.  Annette. --- On Sat, 4/9/11, askgranny@juno.com <askgranny@juno.com> wrote: From: askgranny@juno.com <askgranny@juno.com> Subject: [ML] Reminiscing..... 3. Had a doctor appointment yesterday afternoon and when he got my wheel chair off the deck i saw their was very little snow!! Really scared me as i expected a yard full yet!! So it really shook me up because i had not been out side in quite a while. So i imagine we will have a lot of mud soon to. But it beats living in muck or clay at least our mud has sand mixed in it as well. But i should not complain because ca 65 miles from me the flood is at ca 39 to 40 inches and then i worry about my sister Dorothy all the time. In 1997 the home had to evacuate so my daughter Dawn took her home and that was a joke because Dawn expects perfection and that is some thing Dorothy does not know what the word means<VBG>. There maybe some 8 to 10 yr old who are perfect according to their mothers and i know both the mother and children plus these children are so smart i always thought they would one day kick the teacher out of school and take over. Although the young ones did not even know they were that smart and when they grew up they still did not know it Thank God. Viola.

    1. [ML] Granny's log house
    2. Remember when most everyone lived in a log house ? I'm so glad I moved to this area in time to see the log house near Sailor's Rest where my late Granny was born, walk around in it and go upstairs....It had whitewash on the high ceilinged walls, and was really large for a log house...A dog trot hallway split the house in two and gave the folks a nice cool place to sit on summer days.. I'm glad I had my camera along because it is no more..Sadly, the house's logs and huge stone chimney...[a work of art and SO nice !] ....were passed along to someone needing to erect a 'new' old home. ...Rose of Sharon bushes have spread into a thicket all around, just smothered over with cinnamon vine in the summer....but the Virginia Bluebells and other wildflowers that have crept into the clearing have time to bloom and die before the shade takes over ...Picket fences and palings my Grandpa worked so hard to make have returned to the ground and only the smokehouse still stands , alone in the woods..The little creek still gurgles over it's stony bed just at the edge of the front yard, and I think what fun it was to play in that creek for the little girl who grew up to be my grandmother ..Annie Void Schuff....1830--1957...................Jeannie T ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ Groupon&#8482 Official Site 1 ridiculously huge coupon a day. WE grew up living close to Mamas folks, and it's always amazing to see the difference when folks that grew up in faraway places begins to talk about family when we get together....Ma is only a name in the genealogy book to them, while we know all the secrets of her big log house, and how much fun it was to draw up the little syrup bucket from the cistern where it had been stashed to keep the sweet milk from Ma's cow safely cool for us to drink....Neighbors names are as familiar to us as our relatives, even though we might not remember meeting them....All the houses we lived at, where folks are buried and even in which cemetery.....I don't see how they stand it.....missing so much..Jeannie T ____________________________________________________________ Penny Stock Soaring 3000% Sign up for Free to find out what the next 3000% Stock Winner is! http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/4d9fe6a3600bc336bbm06duc

    1. [ML] Green
    2. CAROL KUNZ
    3. * "The Green Thing" In the line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized to her and explained, "We didn't have the green thing back in my day." That's right, they didn't have the green thing in her day. Back then, they returned their milk bottles, Coke bottles and beer bottles to the store. The store sent them back to the plant to be washed and sterilized and refilled, using the same bottles over and over. So they really were recycled. But they didn't have the green thing back her day. In her day, they walked up stairs, because they didn't have an escalator in every store and office building. They walked to the grocery store and didn't climb into a 300-horsepower machine every time they had to go two blocks. But she's right. They didn't have the green thing in her day. Back then, they washed the baby's diapers because they didn't have the throw-away kind. They dried clothes on a line, not in an energy gobbling machine burning up 220 volts. "Wind and solar power" really did dry the clothes. Kids got hand-me-down clothes from their brothers or sisters, not always brand-new clothing. But that old lady is right, they didn't have the green thing back in her day. Back then, they had one TV, or radio, in the house not a TV in every room. And the TV had a small screen the size of a pizza dish, not a screen the size of the state of Montana . In the kitchen, they blended and stirred by hand because they didn't have electric machines to do everything for you. When they packaged a fragile item to send in the mail, they used wadded up newspaper to cushion it, not Styrofoam or plastic bubble wrap. Back then, they didn't fire up an engine and burn gasoline just to cut the lawn. They used a push mower that ran on human power. They exercised by working so they didn't need to go to a health club to run on treadmills that operate on electricity. But she's right, they didn't have the green thing back then. They drank from a fountain when they were thirsty, instead of using a cup or a plastic bottle every time they had a drink of water. They refilled pens with ink, instead of buying a new pen, and they replaced the razor blades in a razor instead of throwing away the whole razor just because the blade got dull. But they didn't have the green thing back then. Back then, people took the streetcar and kids rode their bikes to school or rode the school bus, instead of turning their moms into a 24-hour taxi service. They had one electrical outlet in a room, not an entire bank of sockets to power a dozen appliances. And they didn't need a computerized gadget to receive a signal beamed from satellites 2,000 miles out in space in order to find the nearest pizza joint. But that old lady is right. They didn't have the green thing back in her day. OMG...that was MY day too! *
