NASA has finally decided to bid farewell to the Mars rover Spirit. Not having been able to make contact in over a year, they figured that Spirit was done for and will not make further attempts to rouse him/her. Click on the link below which takes you to the NASA Science News homepage and read the full story of the accomplishments of this robot that was only supposed to last for a few months. It traveled about 8km which equals just under five miles (I think I converted that correctly). Talk about the little engine that could. The sister robot "Endeavor ?" is still going strong. Well done, good and faithful servants! Reminds me of the time very recently when my 4-year-old grand niece decided the "girls" toilet was too high for her (she is pretty tiny, and it's a new-to-them house), so she started using the waste basket. Her daddy was incensed that one of the boys was peeing in the waste basket in the girls bathroom, and she 'fessed up. They got her a step stool. Well speaking of that problem, This family live in an apt. and the window in his bedroom is low, but can't be opened. Sunday she found him behind his bed with his clothes off mooning the parking lot with his butt up to the window. They are going to be moving farther out with a yard, so I am sure he will be tinkling in the yard also. Starting school just hope he doesn't do it in the school yard. Kids, gees, is he turning into a Buzz?? Glad those two aren't together. I wrote an article 'Do houses go to Heaven ?' and we were talking about it...Why couldn't you live in your favorite home in Heaven ? To heck with a mansion, some might like to spent eternity in a little log cabin they were born in, etc...We all agreed we wanted to spend it living in a big old 'painted lady ' type farm house where Son grew up....Grandson John had never seen this house but said he wanted to stay with us since we loved it so. Heck, nobody can tell you exactly what Heaven is like, so why not be able to live in YOUR favorite House ? I figure theres nothing wrong with picturing Heaven as you would like it... Or I guess I would opt to live with Ma in her big log house in Tennessee....Y'all should know her by now....( : Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Thu, 2 Jun 2011 13:08:40 -0400 marilyn E B <marilyneb@gmail.com> writes: > Several years ago (eons) we would have a topic for the week or day on > Memory > Lane. Lordy, does that sound like someone I know ! Buzz was scared to go in the bathroom late yesterday so made a break for the door...I said' Where are you going ?" He said outside...Me ? ...I said NO! I took him to the parts store to get a lawn mower belt for Papa and he examined everything in the little old timey shop...I heard the male clerk say he would have to ask the woman...I asked what was going on and Buzz said " I asked him if he could give me better price on this flashlight." I told him you don't ask someone in a store to do that...you've been going to too many yard sales !" The lady said" I LOVE to go to yard sales! Since it's YOU I'll let you have it for $2.00." I asked if he wanted to use his Tooth Fairy money and he agreed, after finding out I 'only had one dollar'....and he agreed to work for that dollar I loaned him....The man kept moving, but I couldn't see what he accomplished....Everything was referred to the woman, who was busy on the phone. Finally a Winchesterism popped out of my mouth...I said ' What's your job around here anyway, walking around looking pretty ?" He wasn't, but grinned and said 'You got that right ." When something like that pops out of my family's mouth without being cleared by the brain we call it a Winchesterism...Dad's family name. After we got in the car Buzz said in a satisfied voice " I could get used to that ." When questioned he told me it was all due to his great new haircut....He loves it.....He's been known to have a go at his hair on occasion so I used that flashlight deal as a good point not to mess up a haircut, lest folks think you were a dummy....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Thu, 2 Jun 2011 18:34:27 -0700 "Louise Valine" <antique1931@saber.net> writes: > I had a note from my daughter in law that our great grandson almost 6 > decided he needed to pee so he peed off the balcony. The house we lived in (rented) in Little Rock, AR had two porches on the front. One of them was screened in and the other was open. We had a porch swing (wooden that hung from the porch ceiling(s) by chain). I say ceiling(s) because the swing was kept on the screened porch in the fall-winter season and moved to the open porch in the spring. There was a small, open porch on the south side of the house and an open porch on the back of the house that went all the way across. There was another small screened in porch on the north side of the house. I don't remember much use of that porch. Access was from the kitchen and there was no exit to outdoors. The porches that got the most use were the two on the front of the house. The "house in the desert" where we moved in 1945 had a small open porch on the front of the house. There were two "stoops" on the backside of the house. One from the kitchen and the other from a bedroom that was added to the back of the house by the original owner. I haven't lived in a house with a porch in over 40 years now. Sure do miss a porch.
