Well I was supposed to fly to Canada today to attend a wedding on Friday. But I live near Chicago right? Well we are in the middle of a snow storm--may be the heavest of the winter. I am never anxious about flying, but for some reason I was hoping this flight would be cancelled. My son in law makes all my travel plans because he is good at it and likes being nice to me [really]. The flight is in his name so I didn't have a password to get into American Airlines on line site. I finally connected with Chris in Canada and he was watching the flights and they have cancelled 1000, but for some reason the one I was supposed to take was OK. About 11AM he got through and told them I was unable to get to the airport be cause of the weather and I will be on the same flight tomorrow. I feel so much better about it. By then everything will be cleared out. We have had a mild winter the last two years and actually this moisture is welcome. All the snow plow operators are happy with some overtieme. The whole Chicagoland area cancelled school today before the storm even started, but my lonely flight was still scheduled to leave. What I was most anxious about was that I would get my bag checked in, they would then cancel the flight and I would have to call my son to come and pick me up. The traffic around the air port is just unbelievable and with 6 inches of snow would be awful. Wondered if I would ever see my bag again. I feel much better--took a nap and will get a few things done. Have no idea when we will have spring here--I got three catalogs today so somebody thinks our now 10 inches on the ground will melt. We almost never can plant anything until late April. I usually get a couple of pots of pansies or something hardy for the the front that is protected until the ground is warm. Hope I get off the ground tomorrow! Hidy Ho Shirley... It's always nice to hear from you. While chili sounds good, since I'm having to cook for one, it'll be a while before I make another pot of chili.... since we seem to be getting a cold front every other day, chili sounds great. When you get thru with the rain will you send it our way? Things are getting mighty dry around here. I truly hope you aren't getting sick.. got my fingers crossed for you there. Things are going fairly well here. Sherry seems to be past most of the pain she has been in and has actually begun to eat a little more than she has in the past few months, which is a good thing. She has a new medication that is supposed to increase her appetite but she doesn't like the taste <grrrrrrr>.. Perhaps that will change. Last Thursday, she had an infusion of fluids, along with some other once-a-month drug, and she has felt better than she has felt in ages... Today she's not feeling all that great. We have another appt. tomorrow and hopefully they will give her another infusion of fluids. The more dehydrated she gets, the worse she feels. We'll see, we'll see. Good Morning Glad to have you back Robert, hope your shoulder has donr some healing, and also hope you got your stove back. Can't do much star gazing with my eyes the way they are, have trouble just seeing where I am going. I woke up this morning coughing, I had a scratchy throat yesterday, but now I don't feel very good, hope I am not coming down with something ??? Made that chili yesterday, it turned out pretty good, I had three recipes for chili, but followed the Texas chili recipe the most. Made it with tri-tip roast, it took about three and half hours from start to finish. Also made some pink beans, because my husband said he didn't like his chili plain, I kept them separate at first, but when I made his bowl of chili, I added beans, than put cheese on top, than raw onions, and we had cornbread. I think it turned out good, I had beans with chili too, but on top of the cheese, I added a big dollop of sour cream. Our granddaughter stopped by and ate with us, and I ended up putting the beans with the chili, when I cleaned up the kitchen. Today is my sister-in-laws birthday 89 years old, she seems to be doing good too. Pretty good for women they were sending to hospice to die three years ago !!!! They say rain is on the way, we will take all the rain we can get. Yesterday we had to water our plants, they were dried our from the wind and the very warm last three days. My thoughts have been on Doug and Sherry, it is so hard to watch a loved one be so sick, it's worst than being sick yourself. Life can be so cruel and hard some times. Sully, in sunny California ( doesn't look like it's going to rain)
OMG! I don't envy you that surgery, but you WILL know what to expect as to time of healing, etc. My rather young niece had it recently, and didn't win any friends while recuperating...She tried to go back to work too soon, I imagine...Staying at a care facility won't be good, but give you a chance to realize just how lucky you are that YOU CAN GO HOME afterwards, unlike most of the folks. Maybe you can make some friends there..You will have one good arm and shoulder, so might not have to stay as long as some folks. Do they have Meals on Wheels there ? I have never wanted to jump onto that particular trolley unless it was a Have to case, but I WOULD give it a shot...There are so many pre cooked items, salad in a bag, etc. on the market now you could live like a King, except it'll cost more....I'm continually amazed when I go to the market...I LOVE the steam in bags veggies...especially the one with asparagus in the mixed veggies...Well, gotta get off here and warm up some leftovers...Hey, you could be cooking a lot of stuff and freezing it for later...Right?...Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Mon, 4 Mar 2013 06:13:06 -0700 ROBERT E PATY <[email protected]> writes: > Jeannie, I finally got over that darn virus that caused me to have to > reschedule the surgery I was supposed to have on Feb 6th. Jeannie, I finally got over that darn virus that caused me to have to reschedule the surgery I was supposed to have on Feb 6th. There were two pre surgical heart tests that had to be postponed also. The earliest I can have those done is Mar 25th. Then I will have to have the chest x-ray and blood work done again because the previous ones are now outdated. It looks like early April before I will be able to have the surgery. I am not really looking forward to it since it is the right shoulder and I am right handed so I will probably have to go to an aftercare facility for a few days (or weeks), Heaven forbid. I will have to check with my insurance carrier to see what kind of homecare I might be entitled to. I doubt that I will be able to prepare my own meals and probably won't be able to drive until I start having physical therapy. I had to go through a lot of this four years ago when I had to have the same surgery on my left shoulder. At least, then, I could stay at home, fix my own meals, and drive myself to doctor visits and physical therapy. This ain't going to be fun but I am sure I will survive it. This is going to be a busy month, medical wise. I have four other appointments with medical things not related to the surgery. One of them is at 8:00 this morning so I had best get busy and fix some breakfast. I have been remiss about keeping up with information on comets, eclipses, and other space phenomena. This comet should be visible in our hemisphere beginning next week. I haven't checked the spaceweather website yet to see if they indicate how long the comet will be visible to the naked eye. I should have done that before forwarding this to you. Shirley: I could have written this first paragraph!! As our eyesight has faded quite a bit, we find it harder to see under most condition. Those new bulbs are all but worthless. We have gone to a store that sells lamps and bulbs and got help picking out lamps, etc. Not Lowe's or Home Depot or Wal-Marts. None of their employees know one lamp from another nor one bulb from another. Our best luck was with a store that also has an electrical business where they wire homes and businesses. Also, did you know you can get "readers" that are bi-focals. I have one pair that was done wrong so have to get new lenses...I have the computer part (2.0 mag) on the top and the reader part (3.5 mag) on the bottom. I find this is well worth the cost; when doing taxes or genealogy I previously had to keep changing glasses. Now I can look down and see the numbers; look up and see what I am typing on the screen. Also great for running an adding machine!! Good luck...I know what a pain this can be first hand!! I have had 20/20 vision my whole life, even when I needed reading glasses, my distance vision was 20/20. My left eye is making up for my right eye, I have been wearing a stronger reader, it helps clear up the blurriness of the right eye, and also seems to make it easier to watch TV too. Losing some of your site, you don't have good depth perception, I notice it especially when I went to cut a tag off a new blouse, I kept missing the string, I was going in front of it or in back of it, it took several times before I got it cut. I am getting new lamps for my bedroom, especially next to my bed, I want ! one with a swing arm on it, so I can bring it closer to the bed or closer to my chair, where ever I am at the time. I have found out that you pay for what you get, especially in lamps, if you use a lamp a whole bunch, get a good one, it will last longer and work better. I like the lamps that are easy to turn off and on, some hurt my fingers, the knob is so small, and rough, I have arthritis in my fingers, and that doesn't help ether. I like the switch that you push in to turn the light on and push it again to turn the light off, they don't make them that much any more, they mostly have the round knob you turn, they also wear out the fastest. My husband has repaired a few of the lamps, he buys a new cord with the part you put the bulb in, and they are now are easier for me to turn off and on. It's early here, I woke up and was so hot, I had to get up and cool down. We are going to have a beautiful day here, but by the end of next week, cool down and maybe rain. So will take advantage of this weekend, and get out and about in the fresh air. Yesterday it was so good to open my sliding glass door, and the front door, and some of my windows, let in fresh clean air to air out the house. Felt good to feel the sun on my skin, didn't stay out long, but was nice all the same. I have 2 more days of antibiotics drops for my eye, than I am free, can go where ever I want. I almost wish we could barbecue, could make potato salad, they have corn on the cob on sale at Stater Bros. market, I'll ask my husband if he would like to barbecue some chicken this Saturday, MAYBE !!! Well, I think I'll go back to bed now, see if I can get a few more minutes of sleep !!!! I also need better light, where before we were buying light bulbs that saved on electric cost, I now need to buy 100 watt bulbs and up. Thanks for explaining about your eye problem...I know a woman who saw a black spot in her eye that did not move like regular floaters do..She waited a good while before going to the eye Dr, being a stubborn sort...It was a detached retina, I believe her sister said, and she had damage because she waited so long. I hope your eye problems are soon gonna be cleared up....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Thu, 28 Feb 2013 14:12:40 -0500 (EST) Shirley Sullivan <[email protected]> writes: > Good morning dear friends...... I use artificial tears to. The doctor said that I have sensitive eyes. Been using them for a long time. Has anyone noticed that when you read the numbers and letters on the chart that's on the wall, you read them pretty good. I read this one line good and the doctor said that very few people over 50 can read it. I told him again that when I go home everything is blurred again. His assistant had an idea that maybe it was the lighting. I believe that she could be right. I got new glasses because my prescription changed but after a while they were just like the old ones. I did something stupid today. I accidently sprayed my hair with fabreeze. Well, any idiot could have done it. Both cans were side by side and I didn't look at which can I picked up and almost knocked myself out. I had beautiful smelliy hair for the rest of the day. Watch where you put your hand. Barb
Good morning dear friends Well I am feeling better this morning, will take it easy, and won't go outside for a couple of days, but at least I don't feel miserable. Someone ask why I have the shots, and this is the answer: so i don't go blind. Several months ago I noticed my right eye was blurry, I thought maybe my cataracts were getting to what my eye doctor called ripe, but after having my eye examined, they found a blood clot in the vain at the back that carries the blood out of the eye, and as the blood collected in back of the clot, it exploded, left a sort of crater at the back of my eye, the eye filled with blood, and where the crater was, I was blind, big black spots as I looked out of that eye. The injections do two things, there is a lot swelling in that eye, and the injection calms the swelling, which makes my vision better, and also helps the eye repair it self, by growing stints, that now help carry the blood around the blood clot, and out of the eye. But by no means is the eye ever going to be 100 % again, but without these treatments I could go blind, and or get a infection in that eye, and have to have the eye removed. When I first go in the doctors office, first thing they do is have me looking at eye charts, to see haw much I can see, than they dilate my eye, and take x-ray of the inside of my eye to see how much swelling there is, than I get the injection, there rally isn't much pain, they put numbing drops in, than he gives me a small injection that numbs the eye, the only parts that give me any discomfort at all is when he puts some kind of antibacterial on a swab and goes over all the outer edges of my eye before he gives me the injection, like when you get a shot and the rub your arm first with alcohol, waits about ten minutes, than I get the injection, given in the white part of the eye. I don't feel the needle, maybe a little pressure, and at first my eye is numb, so can't feel anything after, but maybe 15 minutes later the feeling starts coming back, than I feel like there's a cinder in my eye, and for the rest of the day, my eye runs, my eye stings, my nose runs and all I can say is I feel miserable, the only thing I can do for the eye is put in Artificial tears, as much as I want or need. I usually take some Tylenol, and maybe about 4 o'clock, I have a big glass of wine !!! That does help some, I also have to give antibiotic drops three days before and three days after the injections, I am to not get in the wind or go any where I could get anything in my eye, for at least three days But today is a better day for me, and we have beautiful weather again, by Saturday we will be in the 80's (sorry Barb) but there is rain and cooler weather on the way, next week. So will enjoy it while I can, there is no wind here. so maybe will go outside and sit in the patio for awhile. I am sorry you all can't have good weather, but Spring is not far off, and then we will all be saying it's so darn HOT !!!! We were coming down the canyon the other day and already there are calf's, many Texas Longhorns, and Brahma cattle at the Diamond bar ranch. Love to all, Sully is Sunny and Beautiful California
I used to watch a program where aliens came to earth and lived with us. On this program the men gave birth. I bet your wondering 'how'. The alien was a policeman and his human friend was his partner. When it was time to deliver the alien told his friend to put his (friend) fist through his stomach and I can't remember next. I must have had to go to the bathroom or I turned it off. Barb
So sorry you are having this eye problem and hope it is resolved soon...Just the thought of getting a shot in ones eye is daunting... Sigh...How I wish hubby had liked California as well as I did those few months we lived out there...He found out more than he needed to know about the guitar shop he went out there to work in and couldn't wait to get back to Southern Ill. where we had property...I felt right at home amongst the laid back people...SIGH.....
