    3. Sharing from a good friend on Facebook. At work we heard an expert on mobile device security explain how in recent months the implementation of malware against mobile/smart phones has exploded. The trend will only accelerate. I'll try to pass along some recommendations he made... The main targets are Android phones, but all platforms are vulnerable. Malware can hack your passwords, financial data of any kind, photos, or other information that you would not want others to have access to. Most people don't use a pin# or password with more than four characters to unlock their devices, so ANYone who can access your device can conceivably install such malware if you misplace it or don't always have control of it [A PIN with 6 or more characters is going to be much more secure than a 4 digit PIN, and please do NOT use '1234' as your PIN! there are plenty of ways to easily crack short PINs ] There are cybercrime sites that sell equipment that can masquerade as the wifi routers that you access at the local Coffee place and make unauthorized changes on your device or hack its information. People can generate and replace legitimate QR codes on display in public places with fake ones that direct your device to a spoof site when you scan them. There are many links and apps displayed on places such as Facebook that can expose you to malware risks if you click on them--use services that are available which will scan those links to let you know if they are safe. If you travel, especially overseas, it is a good practice to secure your phone when not in your possession by not only removing the battery, but also your SIM card and keeping it with you--criminals can clone SIM cards extremely quickly now. As I posted before, there are potentially fake apps on places such as Google Marketplace that will install malware on your phone. 'Antivirus' apps only scan things like files, they do not protect against malware codes. A little paranoia can be useful here--the important thing is to think about what you are going to click on or install in your mobile device--you MUST consider your smartphone to be a true connected computer (that happens to make phone calls), and protect yourself and your information accordingly. 1. [ML] early morning
    2. Shirley Sullivan
    3. Got up this morning at 4 AM, took our granddaughter to the airport to catch a flight to Arizona, now I feel tired, but not sleepy enough to go back to bed. Our granddaughter Brooke is going to a Irish Song Festival, on Sunday and will come home Monday. We were laying in bed the other night talking about this and that, when my husband asked me "have you seen those blue flowers on the hill, by the fig tree"??? I say no, I didn't know there were any flowers on that side of the hill, so the next morning I went out and looked. There are six beautiful blue Lupine, we didn't plant them, there what I always call a free-be. How ever they got there, they are beautiful, long stocks about 8 inches long with beautiful blue buds all the way up. Also my bridal wreath is blooming, I cut it back last year, I really butchered it, I thought it would take two years for it to bloom , but here it is covered in beautiful white flowers and smell heavenly too. Most of our fruit trees are in bloom, they don't have many leaves yet, but lots of blossoms, Peach, Nectarine, Plum, Apricot, and the Avocado is starting to bloom too, there are still over two hundred avocado's on the tree, I was hoping we could cut it back a little before it bloomed again, but I guess not. I have a large arch arbor going up to the second level of my garden and over to the Pagoda, it has all these little tiny yellow rose blossoms on it, it is covered and looks so beautiful, they are everywhere, in fact a few of the big long canes with blossoms are growing up in my lemon tree. It happened last year too, I got out there early this year and tried to cut back any branches that were headed towards the Lemon tree, but I must have missed a few, because there's all these tiny yellow roses up in the tree. I need to get our income tax stuff together, so my husband can go to our tax man, only than can I begin a real effort in my garden. I was looking out in our yard and thinking I might enlarge my garden this year, there's a area that has this ground cover, I could clear that out and grow some flowers in there, but it will be hard work, as I will have to get the roots, that means digging, and than going through the soil with my hands to get all the little roots, I am wondering if it will be worth it???? Oh my aching back !!!! My first son's birthday is tomorrow, I was going to have him over for Corned beef & cabbage dinner on Sunday, but he called yesterday and said he was going up to his sisters yesterday and was staying till Saturday, and could I have his birthday dinner on Saturday ( I always make a birthday dinner for my adult children for their Birthday, I will make their favorite dinners, or they can ask for what ever dinner they want) So we are having Filet steaks, twice baked potatoes, fresh asparagus, a cucumber and tomato salad, home made buttermilk biscuits and I will be baking a cake today. So I am going to be a busy, tidying up the house, and baking. I better get started, have a good one, Sully in Sunny California

Love you, cousin, Jerrian -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Shirley Sullivan Sent: Wednesday, March 13, 2013 10:48 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [ML] My Orchid is blooming Hi you all Just finished my first cup of coffee, I noticed that my orchid is blooming up on my kitchen window sill, in fact there's another spike coming up too on the other side, but it's still very short, that makes the forth spike of orchids to grow on this plant. Got this about two months ago at Trader Joe's, it a small high end market, they have fresh pizza dough, and Pizza sauce. They always have beautiful plants for sell and well as fresh cut flowers, they sell good wine at a good price too. These are the small orchids, they are yellow and it almost looks like a rust color, very pretty !!! They are always busy, on the weekends, you have a hard time finding a parking place. Well it's going up into the 90's today, going to give my little guy a bath, he doesn't like baths, as soon as you put him in the water, he freezes, his legs get stiff, he won't turn around for you, so have to take him out of the water, turn him, than put him back in to the side that needs more soap. He is so funny, we can't let him outside because he will look for dirt and than roll in it, coming back in looking worse than before he got his bath. But later after he dries I think he likes the way he feels, his coat is so soft, and he smells so nice, and he gets all spunky It's a beautiful morning here, I heard a bird singing last night about nine o'clock, must be a mocking bird. They usually sing early in the morning, before it gets light outside, drives our one neighbor crazy. I am always worried that our one cat Fanny will find their nest and go after them, she is a fearsome hunter, and is always bringing home all kinds of dead critters to show me her prizes. We found a dead possum yesterday on our sidewalk, I think car must have hit her, I couldn't see a make on her. Now I wonder if she had babies anywhere around here, they will surly die without her to feed them. Why does that make me so sad ????? 3. I live here in Shake, Rattle & Roll land, mainly because I was born here. My whole family lives here, and I don't know no better. Also when you people start talking about freezing weather, ice storms, snowdrifts five feet deep, being snowed in, or having to shovel yourselves out of the house, and I look out my back door at flowers blooming in February, a few earthquakes now and than don't seem so BAD. It's the wild fires we get that scare me the most, if we get little to no rain, you can bet we'll have wild fires in late Summer or Fall. I have lived here 74 years, and have never had a good reason to move anywhere else. I have been up to Oregon lots of times and love it, but just couldn't move away from my family that far. Until two years ago, we tried to take our grandchildren (my daughters) at least once a year for a couple of weeks someplace to spend time with them, so when their children asked them what their grandparents were like, they would have something to say besides I DON'T KNOW, WE DIDN'T SEE THEM VERY MUCH !!! Now my youngest son's children, I love them too, but they were never allowed to go anywhere with us, that was their mothers doing, she didn't much like her own mother or anything to do with family much !! "Anyway that's my story and I am sticking to it" Another beautiful day in La La Land, going up into the 80's today. One of those beautiful days, that got people to move out here in the first place, in spite of the Earthquakes. I don't care where you live if it's not one thing, than it's another, Tornadoes, Hurricane, Ice Storms, Earthquakes, Wildfires, floods, too much rain, or not enough rain, all kinds of natural disasters, and man made ones too, the twin towers going down on 9/11, Wars of all kinds, big and small, Train wrecks, airplanes falling out of the sky, Dams bursting, and even some I can't think of right now. So no matter where you live, danger will come a knocking at your door, now and than. Well I am going into the kitchen and make a pot of coffee, feed the cats, and put the news on the TV, I need to go to the market today, like to do it early, I just don't have the energy to do it later in the day. Have a good one !!! Sully in Sunny California

    3. We just got home from watching our granddaughter Brooke, receive her certificate of Achievement for being on the Deans Honor list again this year, at California State University of Fullerton, for Business and Economics, this is two in a row for her, I was so proud sitting there as they called her name, and she walked up dressed in business attire. She is 5 foot 10 inches, so tall and of course to me beautiful, she had her blond hair up in a french knot on the back of her head, her hair is almost down to her waist, but they asked all the students to dress business professional, and she did her best to look the part. As I was looking at her, I thought of that sweet little baby, with her beautiful smile, and her hands held out to me, to pick her up. Oh how I enjoyed being her Nana, she always thanks us for being there for her, and for me it's a pleasure !!! I know this is bragging, but a grandmother has the right to brag about a granddaughter that's smart, sweet and beautiful, "I JUST CAN'T HELP MYSELF" This morning we had a earth Quake, but I didn't even feel it. I couldn't sleep last night for some reason, I kept waking up and than the dog kept jumping up on the bed, laying on my legs, I pushed him off, but he would get right back up. I felt like I was between a rock and hard place, so got up watch some late night TV, went back to bed got another 2 hours sleep, got up again, than went back to bed about five o'clock, and slept till after Ten AM. When I got up Jim said we had just had a earth quake, I didn't even feel it, not even one after shock. 2. Well, I too have a beautiful granddaughter, but she's not a loving sort...More like a "Gimmeee' sort, actually. Occasionally when I give her clothes or other desired items she will thank me...but usually she just takes it like it is her right. I continue to give her things because Son is on a military pension and doesn't have enough to live on...She was hubby's pet, her sweet, warm , loving brother was MY baby...He's so full of warmth and love and she is cold and calculating....Her Mama ruined her when she was growing up... Guess your doggie knew something was going to happen, huh? I too had trouble sleeping last night..went to sleep about 2 and woke up at 3 , saw something crawling on my wall...Okaayy...No one can see in my bedroom window out front so I took down the curtains so I can enjoy the huge maple tree out front and assorted shrubs and bushes....At first I thought' Something is on my side window...then realized it was in the light reflection from my front window...I watched it crawl around, trying to figure out what the heck it was...Tree frog? Hmnnnn...too big, too many legs....Made me think of a tarantula....Flashlight only turned the rain streaked window into a mirror....Oh well....It was OUTside and I was INside so I read myself back to sleep...Still don't know what it was, but I can assure you waking up with something crawling 'on your wall' less than 2 feet away sure does make it hard to get back to sleep at 3 Am...Hmnnn...If it were a little larger and longer I might think it was that 'Sandalander' little Mason was playing with Friday..Not even close in looks, though. I finally managed to talk him into putting the salamander outside under the leaves...First he said it was a creature...he's a mess....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Mon, 11 Mar 2013 23:55:46 -0400 (EDT) Shirley Sullivan <[email protected]> writes: > We just got home from watching our granddaughter Brooke, receive her > certificate of Achievement for being on the Deans Honor list again > this year, at California State University of Fullerton, for Business > and Economics, this is two in a row for her, I was so proud sitting > there as they called her name, and she walked up dressed in business > attire. It was hard to see because it was night time and there were many police cars firetrucks. It is a beautiful cool breezy day here in Central Florida But the grass is brown from the lack of rain.  No more sink holes or fires but I am almost holding my breath because if this weather keeps up there will be more.  I think we will be doing more baby sitting this week and then on Satuday Bob is having a garage sale.  Oh Boy.!!!!   Annette.

    2. After a windy day we are getting rain...for hours now....No chance of it freezing, as it's in the 50's here ..Haven't been down to check on my newly set out strawberries, but assume they are alright....They're very winter hardy here in TN... You might just have to let someone move a Mobile Home in on your ranch, Dougster, so you aren't there alone...Hard to find the right person......Your friends on here think of you often and wish for the best for you and Sherry...Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Sun, 10 Mar 2013 16:05:28 -0500 Doug Crim <[email protected]> writes: > We too had over and inch of rain last night and wish to thank whomever is > responsible. 3. Doug and Annette, Sorry Doug, she also asked for rain so I will be asking for some to go to her area in central Florida. We are supposed to be having more rain this week so that might have been part of our rain you got last night. Then again maybe more coming later in the week. I want to get some early yard work done and the ground needs to dry out some for me to be able to start on that. I may even try to move some of daffodil bulbs as I have read some have been able to move them even while green. I need to start some seeds but that I can do inside before the last of our cold weather arrives. It was wonderful outside today and I am guessing we in the low 70's this afternoon. I sat out for a little while and watched squirrels and birds, there were two robins walking down the street as if they humans.
