    3. Where is everyone ????? I went into our archives, compared to other years, we are down to almost nothing, if we don't start posting some memories, this is going to go the way of some other web pages, GONE, GONE, GONE. We always got Wish Books (Christmas catalogs, JC Penneys, and Sears had lots of toys in them) my children use to just wait for them, my daughter use to circle what ever she wanted (half the book). I use to hide them, and bring them out when I needed to distract them for some reason. Oh, they did have lots of fun with those catalogs, it was about this time too. that Saturday morning Cartoons were really going strong, and the advertisements of all the TOY'S coming out around Christmas. I always said they made the most boring toys look like fun, the children in the adds looked so happy playing with them !!! I also got a lots of ideas from those books, I had three babies in four and half years, so didn't like to take them shopping with me, except maybe the grocery store. It was much more convenient to shop in the catalogs, and my husband would pick them up at the store for me. I now also like to shop in catalogs, came a full circle didn't I .Oh those were the days, what ever I bought my children, they liked, no I pods, no computer games, no cell phones,. I was talking to my granddaughter the other day I was telling her we were at the Colorado river at our mobile trailer, and her mother and two of her friends went down to use the pay telephone, she said where was your cell phone ??? I told her there weren't any cell telephones, I think she thinks these were the dark ages !!!!! Have to run, Sully in California

    1. [ML] Vintage: Buzz and the wish book
    2. I saved the 'Toy's R Us ' 'catalog from the paper and handed it to Buzz when he came in from playing. He asked what it was and I told him it was a wish book...He said "Wish book ?'' I said 'Yes, you look at all the pictures and wish you could have the toys. You just WISH you could have them because you won't get them till I find them at a yard sale" He thought on that a minute then said " So yard sales make your wishes come true ?" I said 'That's about the size of it.' He put the book down and began playing...never did look at it...Guess he'd just rather be surprised....Jeannie T ____________________________________________________________ Refinance your home now Loans under 729K usually qualify for US GOV backed refinance programs http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/514818fcc05bc18fc2ed7st02duc

He will drink any sort of juice...but thinking the OJ would have acid in it which is a main complaint..It's affecting his teeth....He has always refused to drink water...will just not drink..Only one WAY...Tell him he is getting spots, and he will drink water. Since he insists on running around lightly clad his skin gets kinda mottled once in awhile....so then you have evidence to point out. His Sissy makes him wear long pants at all times now..no skivvies for him...If he had his way he would be flat nude all year....Gonna look really hard at the Market next trip...Thanks for the helpful advice...we can use it! 2. Johnny's birthday was St Patricks birthday, so he had his fiance frost his hair green! Bet he gets tired of it and has her dye it back dark brown/black . MRE stands for 'Meals ready to eat', and theres everything you need in a tough plastic pouch to make a complete meal, dried fruit, cakes, main course, heater pouch, pkt of TP, matches, gum ,etc...cheeses, crackers, a tiny hot sauce bottle, ...Oh, just all sorts of weird things. There are 3 or 4 series you can get, including one for ethnic groups...We all thought that would be interesting, to try all Nations of food in pouches...I bought this case in KY at a Military surplus store. They were more than $4 a meal, so not cheap like they used to be. When Son lived in California years ago I used to buy and ship him a case or two real often. He has always liked them...They were cheap and so was postage...Couldn't afford it now..either way...JneT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > I hate to sound dumb, but what is a case of MRE'S, from your letter > it has something to do with the Military, is it rations ???? > > > My husband is in the kitchen making a cup of noodles, they are so > salty, but I like all the noodles. 1. [ML] Birthday ????
    2. Shirley Sullivan
    3. My sons birthday was on Saturday the 16th, was that you grandsons Birthday too Jeannie ? Our son can cook too, especially when he wants to impress a lady !!! I always send our son home with lots of left overs, lemons off our tree, avocado's off our tree, gave him a ziplock bag of deli. turkey, 2 Oranges, almost half the cake, and the left over twice baked potato. I remember when my granddaughter use to love to sleep with me, she would climb up in my bed, and say I had the best bed in the world. I can remember when she was, maybe 3 years old, she liked to take her afternoon nap in my bed, she loved for me to pat her back as she went to sleep, so I would lay down next to her, and pat her back till she fell asleep, but I fell asleep too sometimes. I remember one time, she was patting my cheek as I woke up, she told me I had slept long enough, we needed a cookie. She was smart girl even as a child, she sometime talked like a adult, and did she have a memory. One time we were at Smith's market, I had my check book, but kind of panicked when I couldn't find my wallet, I told her my wallet wasn't in my purse. She looked at me and said, it's under your bed right by the chair, I said really, she said it fell out of your purse when you were looking for the stamps, sure enough when I got home there it was, right where she said it was !!! I hate to sound dumb, but what is a case of MRE'S, from your letter it has something to do with the Military, is it rations ???? My husband is in the kitchen making a cup of noodles, they are so salty, but I like all the noodles. I like Top Ramen better, you can add vegetables, maybe a little meat, on a cold afternoon, can be nice That Buzz is a great kid, he's one of those kids that knows way to much for his age, very sharp, and a good talker. My adult children, were like you said Jeannie, as soon as I said I was going shopping, they started running to the car, fought over who was going to sit up front with me, and I would have to settle the fight, with who would ride home in the front seat. I never thought I would miss those days, but I sometimes do. Well we pick up our granddaughter early tomorrow morning at the airport, so better get some shuteye. Sully in Sunny California

    2. We went a little wild on our Grandsons birthday...and opened up a case of MRE's I had gotten for hard times....Was afraid they were getting outdated...I am glad I'm not in the military, eating these every day, but they had some weird and strange items in there...Dried cranberries, jerky, a huge brownie, pop tarts, you name it ! John is now 22 years young, and interested in cooking, so thus new food...He's going to take the leftover packs for his lunch at work, and I bet he'll be the talk of the cafeteria..I loved the tiny bottles of hot sauce in each pack...Theres a bag with chemicals in it and a little water turns it into a dandy food warmer...Now to see if I can find another case of them...New regs. makes it hard to buy.. Instead of a cake we had gourmet cupcakes from uptown, with a pecan pie on the side..His fave...I gave him a Ravioli maker, a cantaloupe, family sized bag of Doritos, some cook books, and bought him a year's fishing license...etc. Rather odd choices, but things he likes, and he was a happy camper....Later on we watched that movie..The life of Pi, or whatever it is called... Ol Buzz stayed over and we shared a bed...Just wish he hadn't sharpened his knees and elbows before bed time! I'm the only one that will sleep with him....THEY don't know he is like a heating pad...and loves to warm my back...Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Sun, 17 Mar 2013 11:31:13 -0400 (EDT) Shirley Sullivan <[email protected]> writes: > Good morning > an Irish Blessing for you this St Patrick's Day > > My son's Birthday dinner was fun, my dinner turned out good, the > twice baked potatoes was a big success. 2. Shirley Sullivan
    3. Good morning an Irish Blessing for you this St Patrick's Day May your home be filled with laughter May your pockets be filled with gold and may you have all the happiness Your Irish heart can hold. My son's Birthday dinner was fun, my dinner turned out good, the twice baked potatoes was a big success. My husband and son watched a game together, after dinner we watched the DVD Movie ARGO, very suspenseful, but a good ending, I can see why it won the Oscar, for the Best Picture. A good day all around. Today we will have the Corned Beef& Cabbage, carrots and little red potatoes, all in one pot, I like that, one pot to clean. They say maybe rain the middle of the week, was hoping it would stay warm, but will take all the rain we can get. All of you have a great St. Patrick's Day Sully in Sunny California .

    2. Shirley Sullivan
    3. It's very early, my husband was in and out of bed all night long. I would just get back to sleep, and up again he would get, than he's back in bed his cold feet on mine. I gave up, just got out of bed, I am still tired, maybe he will fall asleep, than I can get back in bed. I wanted to get up early, but this might be a little early, or it will be a long day I made some soup yesterday, I got the recipe out of the newspaper. They had all these Irish recipes for St. Patrick's Day, it was a potato, cabbage, and bacon soup, turned out good. I love potato soup, and this was a little different, even my husband liked it. I am making my oldest son's Birthday Dinner today, I can't believe he will be 53 years old, I remember the first time he really belly laughed, my husband had this little yellow rubber ducky, and he was saying quack, quack, quack and putting the duck up to our sons neck, and my son stated laughing, he kept laughing, as long as my husband kept doing it, he was so cute. I am going to make Twice Baked Potatoes, I have never made them, but my daughter makes them all the time, so I thought I would give them a try. We went out to eat with my sister in laws, and they had twice baked potatoes, I really liked them, that's what got me started on them. I baked the Birthday cake yesterday, I'll frost it today, and than I'll write Happy Birthday with green frosting. We bought out son a patio fire pit for his Birthday, he told us he got his patio all fixed up, and he hinted for a fire pit, so that's what he's getting. My step brother died last week, I knew he had been having health issues, but didn't know they were life threatening. His son called us, they are going to have a Memorial service up at their cabin (same little town our cabin is at ) in May after all the snow melts, they are going to spread his ashes in the back of their cabin. Their son died several years ago, and that's where his ashes are, so father and son will be together. He was a good man, good father, he will be missed. I have lost more friends and relatives in the last ten years, than I did in any other time of my life. I guess life's all about letting go !!!! Sully in Sunny California

At work we heard an expert on mobile device security explain how in recent months the implementation of malware against mobile/smart phones has exploded. The trend will only accelerate. I'll try to pass along some recommendations he made... The main targets are Android phones, but all platforms are vulnerable. Malware can hack your passwords, financial data of any kind, photos, or other information that you would not want others to have access to. Most people don't use a pin# or password with more than four characters to unlock their devices, so ANYone who can access your device can conceivably install such malware if you misplace it or don't always have control of it [A PIN with 6 or more characters is going to be much more secure than a 4 digit PIN, and please do NOT use '1234' as your PIN! there are plenty of ways to easily crack short PINs ] There are cybercrime sites that sell equipment that can masquerade as the wifi routers that you access at the local Coffee place and make unauthorized changes on your device or hack its information. People can generate and replace legitimate QR codes on display in public places with fake ones that direct your device to a spoof site when you scan them. There are many links and apps displayed on places such as Facebook that can expose you to malware risks if you click on them--use services that are available which will scan those links to let you know if they are safe. If you travel, especially overseas, it is a good practice to secure your phone when not in your possession by not only removing the battery, but also your SIM card and keeping it with you--criminals can clone SIM cards extremely quickly now. As I posted before, there are potentially fake apps on places such as Google Marketplace that will install malware on your phone. 'Antivirus' apps only scan things like files, they do not protect against malware codes. A little paranoia can be useful here--the important thing is to think about what you are going to click on or install in your mobile device--you MUST consider your smartphone to be a true connected computer (that happens to make phone calls), and protect yourself and your information accordingly. I don't even know if they exist yet, but I am sure they soon will. I will let you know what I find, and hope people here will do the same if they find a trustworthy malware app. I just returned to using an iPhone after leaving the iPhone for a "dumb" phone. I miss the iPhone physical build and it's good for my eyesight. This hit me right between the eyes. Clearly the dumb phones are safer.
