I am still living. I have been working on the 2nd. Edition Of the Bauer Family. I do read all the emails. We had storms today and rain tonight. High to everyone. Marge Bauer Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio
I have a fairly large back yard. When I first moved to Scottsdale, we (David & I) had a big vegetable garden that took up most of the yard. We grew just about everything except potatoes. There were two mesquite trees in the yard and after three or four years they grew so big and completely shaded the area that we used for a garden so we gave up on growing vegies and started growing plants. We had aloes all across the back of the house on the bedroom wall and other plants on the kitchen wall. For a long time we had holly leaf ferns there. I think they finally died out from old age. There was some Creeping Charlie in that bed also. Probably some Sansaveria too. It has been a long time now and I can't get a good mental image of that bed and everything that grew in it. There aren't any "in the ground plants" in the back yard now. I have a lot of things in pots sitting on tables and plant stands where the garden used to be. The big mesquite tree was taken down about three years ago so I had to build a shade structure over that area. I have most of my blooming plants in the front now. I will eventually move all of the plants that are in the back yard out to the front. There are really more than I can take care of so will probably be giving some away. I plan to extend the roof overhang at the front of the house by a couple of feet which will afford more shade for the plants that I intend to keep.I have only had one bloom on the bearded iris so far. No sign of others yet. The plants are certainly healthy enough. I have also had a bloom on the dutch iris that I put out back in the fall. There are at least a half dozen others with blooms that have yet to open. The first one was white. I can see yellow on a couple of the others that haven't quite opened yet. There should be some blue ones also. I have Mexican Poppies in bloom (lots of pink) and Angelita Dasies (yellow). Also some gazanias, geraniums, and pansies. There are still a few African Dasies. I have removed about 98% of them as they have bloomed out and were beginning to set and drop seeds. I don't want to have the front completely covered with them next year. No cactus blooms yet. I do have aloes (yellow) in bloom. The red ones are in pots and have already had their first blooms. I expect there will be more before hot weather sets in. We always put out a big garden. Since my husband died my son, grandchildren and some friends will help. It has been so dry the last two years it hasn't made much, but maybe this year. I have 45 lbs of potatoes already planted and about 15 more to put out, onions and 2 rows of corn. Garden is about 75 by 25 I guess so is fairly large. Thank goodness none of it is up since it may get down to 29 tonight. I have also started some plants inside, love flowers have lots of house plants and flowers outside. Been moving some bulbs an other plants while it is wet. We are going to try some raised beds this year. Always plant some tomatoes and lettuce In containers and then move them inside by my patio doors in the fall and and have them till Christmas or so. I hope to get a glassed in porch by this fall. The song that made me remember Emma is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=U6LdR0rbx54#! Elaine
Marge still thrives, I wished her a HB this year. I love it when old friends pop into my mail. This is the song I loved that reminded me of Emma, Emma was a major fan of the Gaither singers. A lot of our children will not handle obituaries very well. If it's important to you, talk to your local newspaper(s). I bet you can prepay and leave that info for your children or funeral home to handle. Our wonderful Wild Bill clearly had no obituary and I am thinking had no funeral, that his children arranged for cremation and then released the ashes over the land he loved. But that leaves siblings and other children hanging. So prepare. So far as I know Lil Ellen took real well to Ema and the mailing list created on yahoo for Ema. I believe Lil Ellen actually created the list so Ema could go there. Any other questions? I am not sure I can answer all of them, but I would try. I currently fear knowing why Alice is not posting. She also is one of our senior seniors. Elaine

How many on this list are planning to have flower or vegetable gardens this year? I have just started a few plants from seed and have them in a sunny window-we can't safely put out plants until after Mother's Day. But it is fun to start them inside and watch them grow! I may put a couple of tomato and pepper plants in here, or maybe just in containers--I have a small garden plot here and last year just had a flower garden. Has anyone done container gardening and has any good hints to offer to get me started? there is both shade close to the house and sun out further. We do have to water by hand so that is a job-I need a bigger watering can than I have now! Helen
I'm still around as well, many are active on Facebook. I miss Valentine. Would love to connect again. My family is busy and growing. Six grandchildren in the last seven years. Wow, time does fly. I have 13 now. 1 week to 20 years. Sam, my husband, has been gone for nearly 6 years. It doesn't seem possible. Robert, Good luck on the surgery. I am praying it will go perfectly and you will be feeling better real soon----we wear out as we age. I have a swollen bursa in my knee-it is painful and I am limping around--icing it helps a lot but I am not one to sit still for long! Try to keep us posted on your progress and rehab! Positive vibes sent out to you! Helen

Does anyone know how many members are left on ML? We all used to have so much to say---but I think that nasty woman Ema came on and ruined it with her nasty attitude. Her posts were strange and she was downright insulting. This was such a wonderful list before that--we talked about lots of good things and shared ideas and stuff. Valentine was the best, she helped me with genealogy stuff many times and loved her posts and her pictures of her area of IL. and also when she went to the Ellen DeGeneres show and all the great gifts and stuff! The men were great at starting us off on certain subjects--lots of great banter back and forth! I don't get to travel as much as I used to~~~ so not as much to talk about, but I still cook often and love to try new recipes and feed people! Tessi was one in a million and just had such a wonderful way about her-you just loved her and the little girls so much--she was and is sadly missed---loved all her posts and pictures! Any ideas on how to get the list hopping again? I really miss all the emails I used to wake up to from this list!!! Helen
Shirley, I will keep your son in my prayers. Cost might have been an issue. I know my mom's was nowhere near as long as I wanted it, but it was still over 100.00, for 1 day's print. They charged by the word. They did mess up and left the service times off so I made them run it again for free. Some small towns have a small flat rate, like our donna's. I paid the flat rate and the family wrote her obituary. Her sister in law had told me she was going to pass on sending one in. margy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Shirley Sullivan Sent: Wednesday, April 10, 2013 3:16 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [ML] Emma's Obituary I just went into social security's death index, found Emma Greer, put information in my Ancestry.com and there was a small obit for Emma, it's not the one she wrote herself, because she once read a little of it to me, wanting me to know how it sounded. There was a lot more about her husband Bill, and she said something about going to Russia with her church, so I don't know who wrote this one, but this is not the one she wanted posted. Don't think my e-mail got through with Emma's Obituary, so I copy and pasted it !! June 30, 1931 - Dec. 7, 2011 Emma J. Geer, 80, of Albany died Dec. 7 from complications of diabetes. She was born in Greenway, Ark., to Joseph and Mattie Hughes, the youngest of nine children. Her father was a Methodist circuit preacher. She moved to California in 1937. Emma worked as a long-distance telephone operator when she graduated from high school. She met John Greer after a year of college at her church. They immediately were engaged, and they were married for 37 years. They moved to Salem and Portland for carpenter work and raised three children. When they moved to Redmond, John became a contractor building spec houses. Emma learned all aspects of building a house, all while working full time as an ATT operator. Emma was always active in the church by leading song service, driving bus, participating in the bell choir and as a greeter. She was a long-time supporter of Ramona (Jenson) Musch who was a missionary with Youth With a Mission. Complications due to diabetes limited her activities. Care personnel always mentioned her cheerful attitude. Emma enjoyed making quilts, Christmas beaded ornaments and dried flower wreaths. She is survived by her sons, Bruce Greer and Joseph Greer; daughter Jacqueline Greer; brother Rev. Daniel Hughes of Arizona; two grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren. A service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Harvest Baptist Church in Albany. Memorial contributions may be made to YWAM missionary Ramona Musch or to Harvest Baptist Church. I just went into social security's death index, found Emma Greer, put information in my Ancestry.com and there was a small obit for Emma, it's not the one she wrote herself, because she once read a little of it to me, wanting me to know how it sounded. Emma J Greer, December 31 2011
On the bottom of the this message and all ML's messages is a link http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mbousman1/memory.htm Just go to photos on the left. The site needs updating bad. I never learned how to use the web stuff when I had to switch to publisher. I still have many photos that need to be added, and pages that are off kilter from my attempt to use publisher :) I will do it tho, right now I'm praying to keep my computer alive until I get a new one and will have to deal with new stuff. Mine is overheating after a little time on. And no we didn't do anything about Maureen, she's probably still here as an unknown member. But I hope that we live in peace, the war was emotionally hard on all of us. My kids talked me into another trip this year and next Tuesday my daughter who lives next door and I will meet my other daughter who lives in Washington in Arizona to meet up with my nieces there. We will spend a day or so with them and drive on to Temecula, CA and will meet up with my great grandson and his mom who live there. On Friday my nephew who lives in Camarillo will bring my 93 year old sister to lunch at a Restaurant in Chino Hills which I guess is half way between Camarillo and Temecula. I am wondering how this old body is gonna take all this travel but, I know I will enjoy seeing all these people once I get there. We will return to Phoenix and spend a few days with the nieces and relax there before returning home. The daughter who lives in Washington will return with me to stay in Michigan until May 2nd. and while she is here she will clean my flower beds and help with a bit of spring cleaning. She does this every year and I am so grateful for her. I will let you all know how it went on my return. Wish me well. Carol K in Michigan
