Sopharia, its so good to hear from you again. How is your precious granddaughter doing? How are you doing? Barb
Sully, I do the same thing that you do about names. I use the alphabet to try to remember names to and of places. My nephew's wife is from Kisterville, guess how I remember that name. Barb
Carol, I believe that Val (I wonder if she is reading this) left because of the horrific things she said about Pat Houser. I had been corresponding with Pat for a while and abhored the things she said about Pat for no reason at all because for some reason she became very nasty and I stood up for Pat. I believe she was asked to leave and Pat left of her own accord. I asked her about coming back but she would not. About the other people you talked about, I don't remember them at all except Alice. Sometimes during the summer I log off for a couple of months and this could have happened then. Was Ema a friend of someone on the list besides Ellen? Barb
Jeannie, I ate some yellow apples that were expensive and very good. My daughter's boyfriend gets them as gifts when he helps certain people do things. He gave them to her and she gave them to me. They came in a box. Barb
Oh boy, do I ever remember June apples ! They were yellow, but I saw red apples once..Just had it by hearsay that it was a June apple tree...Seems to me what some folks now call a June apple are LODI...or Loda...hoping that is right. They're yellow, are picked early in summer...but to my way of thinking don't have that same great taste....Old fashioned June apples are common around old houses over in W KY.,I know that. My sister in law buys them at the Greenville, KY Flea market...but they are getting scarcer and more expensive all the time...Seems like she went to an orchard last year and mortgaged the farm..so to speak.... for some to put in the freezer for making fried apples all year...If I can find out any more I will let you know. Have you Googled 'June apple tree ?' Wish I had a few right now to chomp on and maybe fry some for breakfast...Cat's head biscuits, home churned butter, freshly laid eggs, home cured 'streak of lean' bacon...and fried apples...Oh yes, plus a big mug of Arbuckles .....You worked hard for food back in the day, but man did it taste good! Thank you for your email ,on Thursday. Jt Was so very nice of you. I am living with my son and daughter in law. They are so good to me. We have Ancestry. That is a help, when I have things to look up. Hope to have it finished soon. I am now looking Pictures to add. Hii to everyone. Marge Bauer
I did something last time, and it send the post before I had finished. So to continue: My step brother had a cabin in this cute quiet Mountain community, it had a nice little lake, you could have a Sail boat, a Paddle boat or a Row boat, but no motor boats allowed. Well, that was fine by me, I had just spent almost twenty years going to out to our mobile home on the Colorado River, where the boats were so loud, they woke you up all most every morning, with their loud , soupped up engines. I was looking for quiet, cool, and lazy days, but the cabin we bought, one house from the Lake, needed a lot of work. It had a new roof, a galley kitchen that wasn't bad, the upstairs was big and the only beds up there were twins 6 of them, before they put the new roof on, water seeped into the house, into some of the furniture, and ruined the carpet. I wasn't sad, didn't like the old carpet, or the furniture, they were worn out, shabby, and smelled. The first thing we did was have our sons come and help us haul most of the furniture to the dump, and the second load was that ugly carpet. We got brand new carpet, and we bought a new couch and two chairs from Sears surplus store, one town over, also put a old TV in the front room and ordered Cable service. The deck was falling down in the middle, so that was our first repair, my husband wrote up some specks for a new deck, and we put in stairs going down into the back yard, also where we parked our truck. When we bought the cabin, we put in two parking spaces, but we had to walk all the way around to the front, the only stairs onto the deck or into the cabin were from the front. As my husband removed the old boards from the deck, I carried them out on my shoulder ( my husband made me a deep pad, I could put on my shoulder, so the boards wouldn't hurt my shoulder) I took, if I remember right !! about 4 or 5 boards at a time, on my shoulder down a small grade, and throw them in a pile. It took two weekends to get all the boards removed from the deck, the deck was so old, that many of the nails were sticking up, so to remove the nails with a claw hammer was really easy, and my husband put the nails in a old coffee can so as not to not step on the them, because they could have easily gone through our boots, and I would have been the one it could have happened to !!! I will tell you by evening when we stopped, I was dead tired, as I drug my self into the shower, my husband drove to this small cafe and got us a couple of hamburgers, as soon as he came in, in the shower he went, I set up two TV trays , filled two glasses with milk, put the TV on, and as soon he was dressed and sat down, we ate, and a lot of times we both fell asleep in front of the TV !!! I will tell you one thing, by the end of that summer, boy did I have muscles !!After the deck was finished, and it looked so good, we painted the cabin and trim, did a little stenciling on the top board on the front windows, made it look real cute !!! Next my husband built a stone wall, with stones he got off the job he was working on, they came from the River bed close by, so they were all sizes, some big, some smaller, when we started the wall, it was like a puzzle, we had to fit in the best rock to fit the space, he got some railroad ties and terraced off the back yard, so I could make a wild flower garden, we also planted some Pine trees and one big redwood tree, that redwood tree is about 15 feet high now, a couple of the Pine trees had to be removed a couple of years ago, we had a bad storm, and I don't know if it was ice or lightening, but they were split in two. My garden was so beautiful, I had people from all over the town coming to me, asking how I grew my plants, and what plants grew best !! My husband bought a old row boat, went fishing every weekend, I visited with the friends and neighbors, and worked in my garden. I had the best of both worlds, I worked in my garden at the cabin on weekends, and kept expanding and adding more flowering plants during the week in my garden, here at home. I loved my life, I was busy, healthy, and happy. More to come

There is no way I could name all of them any more. Good Morning Friends first would like to apologize to Sopharia, for calling her Sophia, I sometimes for no reason, can't come up with a persons name ?? My husband will be talking and I'll say, or he will say something like this " "remember Le Roy's wife, what was her name" ??? We say all kinds of things like, "she loved chocolate and I believe her daughters name was Sissy" Maybe another hint like, "she used that big slice of tree, for a coffee table". Still nothing comes to mind, that is when we use this little game to try and jog our minds. We start by reciting the alphabet out loud, (A) through our old minds we say A, did her name start with the letter (A) than (B) and so on (C), (D), (E) (F) Yes it was Freda, yea. We play this little game all the time, but still sometimes it doesn't work ?? Now back to my Garden, AH Yes my fruit trees, by far the most productive fruit trees are my Lemon and Avocado. We have Lemons all year long, but the tree is now over 25 years old, and isn't looking as good at it once did, in fact it's been leaning to one side, so my husband has propped up that side with a large board, with some fabric on top so as to not cut into the bark, but that tree has seen better days that's for sure. About 6 months we were at the Ranch market, mostly fresh Fruits and Vegetables, but they also sells potted trees and many potted plants and flowers, and there was a beautiful Eureka Lemon tree in a large pot, but a bit pricey, we went home and talked about maybe getting it, planting it back a little farther, so when the our big beautiful Lemon tree bits the dust, we will have another growing and hopefully producing fruit, we wouldn't ever have to go with out Lemons. So we bought it, and it already has given us some lemons, and is full of blossoms right now. What can I say about our Avocado tree, we have so many Avocados, that some branches hang down so low, that when I am back there, I forget how low they are and hit my head on the fruit that is hanging. Ouch !! and the best is, there are now flowers on the tree and the bees are busy doing what they do best, so more AVOCADOS, to come !!!!! OK, now back to the garden, I made a beautiful garden, lots of flowers, planted Butterfly bushes in between the Fruit trees at the top of the back wall, had several different colors too. It was about this time that we started looking into buying a small cabin in the local mountains. My step brother had a cabin in a small mountain comunity
I think most of us were aware of Ema and Emma-Emma was a good person, had her own views but was very nice and I always loved her posts and responded to her. BUT the other EMA was a real nutcase and crude and not nice at all. I am friends with Ellen off list and I know she is a very well bred and genteel woman and would not put up with any of the gross things Ema said or insults she threw at people. Emma was with us for a long time-Ema ruined the list and many left because of her. I blocked her from all my stuff because she was such a nasty person.
Yes! Me too! Ema was rude and crude. She knew how to make trouble. I have often wondered if she was able to use a computer at a library and send some of her "poisoned pen prose" to the lists using someone else's name and email address. That could account for some of the crap that showed up under other list member's names. Your back yard must have been Heaven for the neighborhood kids and your own loved ones.... Got several bags of Miracle Grow potting soil today for 89 c after rebate....so plan several thing with it. MAY prepare one and plant some sprouted potatoes in it. Speaking of potatoes. I was down at the garden a couple days ago and noticed some small fingerling potatoes laying there from last year. ON THE TOP OF THE GROUND! I covered them up and will tend to them...We are only getting rain from this Spring storm romping across the South...At least 3 or 4 inches...Everything is greening up and fruit trees and flowering bushes are going wild with flowers...My young apple tree looks like it will have enough blooms to break the limbs..let alone wait for fruit. I've been thinking about just snipping off a bunch of the little limbs that have clusters of flowers...It's a Jonathan...Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`` On Thu, 11 Apr 2013 10:58:24 -0400 (EDT) Shirley Sullivan <[email protected]> writes: > > Good morning dear friends> > > Jeannie, that was great, all the info about soil and different ways > to plant veggies and flowers. Hi, I heard from our son in Lebanon, he wrote me a small note, I am going to paste it here, so you can read it: Hi, Mom I'm back from the Syrian border. Had an amazing time distributing food packages to the refugees out there. I spoke to many of them thru translators. The stories they told me and the injuries I saw first hand were horrific.. I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been for them. 3/5th of the refugees are children. You'll never see any of this on our nightly news. So, we're back in Beirut for two more days, then home. Thank you for your support and encouraging words. Love you, Jim I am so glad to hear from you Sophie, I still have that photo of you in front of those beautiful Red or were they deep Pink Azaleas. I had another stroke about three years ago, they found a blood clot in my carotid artery, had surgery three days later, they were at it for over four hours, took a lot out of me, but had little to no disabilities from it, only my eyes would never be the same. Last year I had a blood clot in my eye, it blew out the vain and I have lost about 30 % of my vision in my right eye, I go for treatments every month, It's a little better, but I will never get the vision back I have lost. But my left eye is 20/20 vision with my glasses, so I am going to be all right. Age brings changes !!! We adapt the best we can !!! I am so pleased we have heard from so many members, it just shows once friends always friends !!! We did a lot of shopping today, it just wears me out, in one store and than out, waiting in line, unpack the shopping cart, than get out of the parking lot, and going a few blocks, pull in parking lot, look for a parking space, go in store, We went to four places today, I had already told the big guy I would make Lima Beans & Ham for dinner with cornbread, got home at 1:30 PM, started the corn bread, than put the a big pot on with a little water, a onion, a ham bone, than put some frozen baby Lima beans in and covered and cooked for two hours. We ate about 4:30 PM, I thought it was good, and than I came in here and read my e-mails, was so glad to hear from our son. I'll write more tomorrow about the changes our back yard has made these last twenty years !! Sully in Sunny California
Sopharia I have missed you and worried when you were in the area where there was storms and flooding, When I get to thinking about you, I go look at your picture of flowers growing in the wheelbarrow.
