    3. I saw an interesting video on the internet a few days ago on growing the upside down tomatoes and etc. In the video they brought up the point that the pots you get in the kits are just too small to hold enough water to develop a good plant and good tomatoes. *Instead they used a five gallon bucket and even planted flowers in the top.* * * *Marilyn* On Mon, Apr 15, 2013 at 11:14 PM, Lisa Lepore <[email protected]>wrote: > You might want to try one tomato plant in a container. 3. Not Jeannie, but you can take a whole potato and cut it into halves, thirds, or quarters, as long as you make sure it has a couple of the little eyes that sprouts grow from. You want to turn the cut side down and have the eyes/sprouts pointing up. I have tried growing potatoes in a trash barrel and they did not not produce like I usually get. I did get a couple of good meals of new size potatoes. By the way I love gardening and I do not enjoy not being able to do all the things outside that I once was able to do. I have worked in gardens since I was around 6 years old. I can remember dad teaching me how to plant various seeds and plants. 3. Morning, Barb. She is in sort of a remission right now. But yes, she has been on prednisone for 5 years and then her doctor put together a 'cocktail' of meds, so she could get off of it for awhile at least. She has been doing quite well, but the prednisone has deteriorated her bones, so that she does experience some pain from that from time to time. Otherwise at the moment, she is doing quite well.Thank you for asking. 3. I agree that the markets do not have many of the cuts of meat we grew up with---we would make a huge pot roast with 7 bone or chuck meat, plenty of meat and fork tender when cooked--none to be found. I go to a meat market(specialty cuts) once a month and get the meat cut to my specs--no waste and I am happy----I don't eat a lot of meat but I want good meat for the prices they get. When I was first married the local butcher used to sell ground chuck ,three pounds for a dollar on special! It was the best for burgers, meatloaf, to mix with veal and pork for meatballs, imagine getting 3 lbs. of anything for a dollar now? I like to cook a big brisket when we barbeque and you can't find them anyplace up here-have to order from meat market ahead of time! What do they do with all these cuts of meat we do not see in the cases at the markets? I have always love what we here call New York Sirloin steaks--thick cut(2 inches thick, nicely marbled, marrow bone on small end)we always had them-now sometimes they have them on special but I have to go have them cut most of the time. Maybe they do other things with these old cuts but they get harder to find all the time. Living near the coast I love all fish and it is also harder to find-they sell foreign fish from all over but not as much cod and halibut etc. seems they have sales on tilapia and another fish I forget the name of--not local--why not sell what is fresh here? Also produce-it is so old when we get it---you have to pick over everything you buy! My relatives send me grapefruit, lemons and oranges every March from their trees in AZ.-how much fresher and better these are---I the getting store-bought after eating them. I am looking forward to farm stands and farmers markets in my area to get good local produce, honey and cheeses. So glad I am not raising my four sons in this day and age--I would not be able to afford to feed them the meals I raised them on-it is brutal the prices to buy healthy food! I hope I can grow a few fresh veggies for myself this year! Helen

    3. I think what you said it true Louise, everything I do now takes so much longer, and my energy level is low anyway, and sometimes by the end of the day, I have no energy left. It is hard to force yourself everyday to do something that zaps any energy you have. It really depends on what I have done that day, if I have worked in the yard for several hours, I come in take a shower, and want someone to make dinner for me!!! So if I am going to work in the yard, I have to make sure I have left overs, or make a sandwich for dinner, because that's all I can do after a day of pulling weeds or raking leaves. If you guys could see me just before I walk out the back door to work in the yard, you would laugh, first I have to have on a light T Shirt, knee pants, socks and a old pair of tennis shoes, (I can throw in the washer) I have to clip my hair up, so as to not fall in my eyes when I am busy working. I have to not had a big breakfast, maybe coffee and a banana, because when I bend over the food will come right up my throat. UGG That's life at the Sullivan's green acres !!! I have noticed over the years, some cuts of meat that I once bought, are not in the meat case anymore ?? Like your seven bone roast, never see that one at the market anymore ?? I do think we send a lot of the choice cuts to other counties, and they also sell them to the restaurants. We have one market here, I will not buy any steaks there, I think they must buy old milk cows, because no matter how good the steak looks in the meat case, you can bet it's tough. They have good prices, so I can buy other meat there, and other cuts, but no steaks !!! My husband very seldom cooks or loads the dishwasher, he is the fast food king. His doctor has told him to stay away from fast food, but he loves it. So if I wouldn't cook, he just goes to Del Taco, or Carls Jr., maybe Jack in the box, doesn't matter he loves it all !!! Need to get dressed and go to the market, to buy pot roast !! Sully, in Sunny California

    3. My husband at one time had what is called a Baker’s cyst behind his knee and had it drained. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/bakers-cyst/DS00448 Connie Sopharia, my cousin has the same trouble with her knees rubbing against bone. However, she is about 20lbs. underweight and that is probably why her knees are rubbing her bones. There is nothing there to take the impact of the rubbing. There used to be something that was called 'fluid on the knee' and the fluid was drained from the knee. Do they drain it and it keeps coming back? One woman I know had one knee replaced and it turned almost sideways. Haven't seen her for a while so don't know anything more. Another woman had both knees replaced and the doctor botched the job and she was in the hospital for 3 months. I feel bad for you that the doctors don't know what is causing the fluid to keep coming back? Barb

Her parents took 2 of my kids a while back to the hockey games along with their girls. Her dad died from Alzeheimer and her mother from pneumonia. Both were in different nursing homes and they will be missed. The grandson put a hockey puck in the casket of his grandpap. So very sad. Barb

I think M. saw the rice in the bowl but he didn't say anything. My fingers have those knots on them to and they are misfigured to. When they first start growing they are very painful. I asked my doctor about them, because they are ugly, if anything could be done about them. She said they were to small to be operated on. Since then they have grown bigger but I am living with them. My mother had them and I was the only one of 3 girls to get them. What made you take the multiple minerals? Did it say on the bottle it would do this? I am so curious Jeannie. Barb

    2. Buy a good Crock pot, a supply of liner bags, and a recipe book on Slo cook meals. { You might also get a kids or bachelor type cook book.}While cooking breakfast load the 'dinner' in the pot and set it on low. Cereal for breakfast, or oatmeal with sliced banana...I like about 3 or 4 crumbled crackers on top. Build your own sandwiches /soup for lunch...Eat supper, remove bag from pot and refrigerate leftovers in it or throw it out... I use heavy duty paper plates on nice holders...for everyday. Hubby said he'd rather do that than wash dishes ...Little conference we had when HE retired...Told him I was retiring too...I still do a lions share of the cooking, but he can make us sandwiches , heat up soup, Nuke a big sweet potato for a snack, etc {serve cut in half with butter and sugar on it...etc...} Biscuits.....Have found a great way to make them. Put some self rising flour in a mixing bowl, add a little oil, milk to make a soft dough, and drop gobs of it into a small buttered skillet. Flatten out with spoon...Cover, low heat for maybe 5 minutes..Turn over to brown on the other side...tastes as good as regular biscuits to us and takes maybe 10 minutes, tops. I use 2 small skillets, and the dough is spread out well. When it's browned on both sides I slice in half and butter it. Eat with your favorite jam..Mine is black raspberry, but current jar is chunky apricot. Yum ! Have considered growing the potatoes as you mentioned, but have never noticed a potato rooting up the stalk as tomatoes will...Will try your method..but thinking of using some small size spare tires...stacked..have read that will work..OR preferably an old laundry basket..Supposedly the vines will grow out through the holes in the sides...taters will stay hidden. Sounds like it would look cool...Have also seen shopping bags made from old T shirts by cutting expansion holes all around it..how would it be to cut one in slits here and there...Fill it a bit with dirt and hang it up..Keep watered and the vines should poke out through all those slits?...I got Miracle Grow garden soil that has fertilizer in it for 89 cents with a $3 off rebate { 30 lbs, I think} at the hardware store..so not much ventured...Now to wrestle that old holy t shirt off my hubby ! 1. Re: [ML] I forget...and aching fingers....
    2. On Mon, 15 Apr 2013 03:40:45 -0400 (EDT) Shirley Sullivan <[email protected]> Sully sez: I'm forgetful about cooking something, not from a recipe, but from memory, when I am ready to put it in the oven, I am hoping upon hope I haven't forgotten something. My husband said I should write them down, or type them up on the computer, and check off each ingredient as I put it in, so as to not to forget something. . ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When I start cooking something with several ingredients I get everything ready to make it and set it on the counter...As I use something I put the bottle of flavoring, egg carton, whatever..in a separate place. Sometimes if I can't make myself cook something I have hubby get the ingredients out for me, so it is about half the work...He'd rather do that than cook stuff ! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have a lot of arthritis in my hands, I have all kinds of lumps on my finger joints, my pinkie on my left hand has a big lump on the first joint from the tip of the finger, it has been aching for two days now, the finger is now at a slant to the right, soon it will touch the next finger....Sleep tight, Sweet Dreams everyone!! Sully ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My finger joints got swollen, seemed like it had fluid in them. Hurt! Went to my local sawbones and he examined my fingers carefully. I asked could some of that fluid be drained off...'NO! These knots will get hard...you're just stuck with them.' I got to thinking about it later, and got a bottle of multiple minerals at Wal Mart...Took them as directed...knots went away, still gone YEARS later.......I was also getting knots in my palms..on those leaders, I guess. All gone... Couldn't hurt to try it.....Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > > > ____________________________________________________________ Woman is 60 But Looks 25 Mom publishes simple facelift trick that angered doctors... http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3141/516ce0bad015860ba2c19st04duc
