Helen, Yes, different states have different laws, but in MA if the issue date and expiration date [7 years] are not are not printed on the certificate then they are good forever. Jeannie, Gift cards here in Massachsetts are good for 7 years, it is a law. I just used one that was 4 years old and was in a handbag I had not used since 2009! I think maybe different states have different laws or rules. I sure am thankful---I got things I most likely would not buy myself if I had to put out money for! My HP printer has very expensive ink cartridges-aand it gives a warning "ink is low" when it is not and can be used for several more months-I have no use for Hewlett Packard products-I have fought with them over laptop under insurance etc. and they were SOB's---went on and on-finally got a man in Ohio that spoke English and he got it aall straightened out in three days! I have a computer guru who says Canon makes the best printers and the cartridges are less expensive than others. So I am researching before I buy! I also had cartridges refilled at both "INK" and Walgreens-some did not work at all, others made a mess of too much ink--new are worth it for genealogy or good recipes etc. Helen
I don't know much about printers, but DO know that some folks just discard the old printer because replacing the ink cartridges cost about the same as a new Printer! I would consider checking the cartridges cost. Walgreens advertises they will refill cartridges, but the one time I took one to be refilled it didn't work !I took it back, they gave me a refund and threw it away..Found out my printer wouldn't work without it so went back and recovered it...Have a Kodak now... Don't understand the folks who don't use gift cards...I have heard theres some sort of scam attached to them so you should use them up ASAP ! Today I set off to shop using some of the gift cards i got for Christmas. I just had a wonderful time-I got to buy some good stuff and not spend any money! I am looking for a new printer(actually I want another three in one )they are so much lighter and not as bulky as the HP I have had for a long time! Well, they got the fire out by late afternoon, some hot spots still here and, some firemen will stay the night to make sure the fire doesn't flare up again. Latest report, five homes burned, three men who were homeless, were camping out up in the wilderness area, started a fire to cook something, got out of control, they are not homeless anymore, live in JAIL now !!!!! I watched one man cry, when he saw his home had burned to the ground, nothing left at all, felt sad for him, he wasn't young, he will have to start over, but it's even worse when your old. I could smell the smoke when I opened the door this morning, and could see the dark smoke clouds in the sky, a little ash fell around our area, but all is gone for now. Until another nut starts a wild fire !!!!! Sully, in dry California, we need rain !!!!
Three friends married women from different parts of the country. The first man married a woman from the North. He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away. The second man married a woman from the West. He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done, and there was a huge dinner on the table. The third man married a girl from the Louisiana. He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher. He still has some difficulty when he pees. Found this on Facebook, I laughed so much I almost p--ed my pants, so I wanted to share this with you. Sully from smoky California

Good Morning friends I woke up this morning, turned on our TV, to watch the morning news, and all I saw was smoke and fire. There's a wildfire burning in the town of Glendora, it's in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains. We have been under a RED FLAG WARNING for about five days now (Red Flag means dry conditions, and lots of wind) two of a fires favorite conditions. They have detained three people, the fire started on a hiking trail. Some homes have been destroyed by the fire, and many more are in danger, there was a mandatory evacuation for all residents up in that area. Some people stayed to protect their homes and property, because the firemen can't be everywhere, and if their home was in a area not close to other homes, the firemen usually are on streets where there lots of homes, they stay where they can fight the most homes close to a fire and do the most good. They are leery of dead end streets, they want at least two ways out of a area, they really like to have three ways out of a area that is on fire. They have helicopters, and Super Scoopers ( large airplane) dropping fire retardant and water from the air on this fire, for about two hours now. We went out side to the front of our house, you can smell smoke, and we could see the black smoke from the wild fire. also ash from the fire is falling everywhere. Very scary, we are not really close to the fire, and we live in a mostly residential district, we do live under some foothills, but there are about six blocks of homes between us and the foothills. But I do feel a little scared, every time these wild fires break out, I do feel all the (FIRE BUGS) are out there starting as many fires as they can !!! It is so sad seeing these people lose their cherished homes and everything in them, Some home owners were at work when the fire started, and are worried about their pets, not to mention all their legal papers, and family photos. It's a sad, sad day, for all these people, keep them in your prayers, Please !!! Sully, in dry and windy California
Mama had to stay in bed all the time when I was about 6 years old...Older sister told me later she had TB, but I doubt that...Anyhoo...She had to drink 1/4 cup of cod liver oil every day..according to Sis...My youngest sister was 6 months old, and she went to stay with Dad's folks till Mom could get better...Ma made some lye soap out in the front yard in our big black wash kettle..and it was slimy! Dad said Ma probably blew her nose into it, but she didn't, because I asked her . : )..Daddy just LOVED to tease her...I can only think she built the fire under the kettle out front because of windy problems in the back yard of our big log house...She may have been overly cautious, because her sister caught her long tailed dress on fire around a wash kittle, and burned to death... Mama's strait laced older sister came over there and did our washing on the scrub board ...No way to find out more about Mama's malady now..All involved are dead... Later on , a pesky younger brother and I got sick at the same time with some sort of malady...Mom set up a folding bed in the living room and we shared it..The only thing we argued about was who kept the chamber pot on their side of the bed...A neighbor took Mom to town and she got us a bottle of lovely chocolate looking medicine to take. OMG! Every time I took it I urped, but got better amazingly fast..SO Mom had to put us in separate beds again. It must have really worried her to have two such 'enemies' lying so quietly in the same bed.....This was in 1947...Dad had died a couple months earlier, leaving Mom with 8 kids and 2 months pregnant...LOVE AND MISS YOU , MAMA! ...Jeannie T ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On Wed, 15 Jan 2014 08:17:04 -0500 "Lisa Lepore" <lisa.lepore2@gmail.com> writes: > My mother said my grandmother gave her cod liver oil every day when > she was > small. My mother said my grandmother gave her cod liver oil every day when she was small. She hated it of course, and would try to run away. Sulpha was the precurser to penicillin. The first antibiotic. Penicillin didn't come about until WWII, so people were probably still using sulpha until the penicillin was manufactured regularly. I don't know when penicillin replaced sulpa. I think you are thinking of sulfa--not sulpher. That was one of the first "new" drugs that came out in the 1940's. My father raised bees and because of the sugar shortage he was allowed to get sulfa to feed the bees in the spring to keep them healthy so they would produce to the maximum. The bees got something called "foul brood" and we always held our breath until the state bee inspector came every spring and declared them healthy. If he found any, the bees had to be burned so as not to infect the other hives or carry it afar. At one time my father had 85 hives and it was a real job extracting and bottling all the honey every fall. The first money I every earned was filling the basket of my bicycle and going to a different area every day and selling the honey--in bottles or combs. Can you imagine letting a preteen kid doing that in todays world? It was good experience and we really weren't in any danger. In the same area today all the parents walk their kids to and from school. Besides the dreaded blue bottle, my mother also gave us a tablespoon of Cod Liver oil daily. Must have helped, we almost never had colds, and had good strong bones. I was surprised when before I had my knee replacement the doctor who was doing the pre exam mentioned that I must have had a lot of exercise all my life because I had good strong leg muscles. It was from walking to and from school uphill both ways. Ha. We are between "clipper systems" today--a little rain, sleet, snow and then sunshine, until another comes through this evening. We are having a weird winter in Chicago--at least the weather men are keeping busy. My Mom gave us Cod Liver Oil-when she took out the brown medicine bottle we tried to get away from her! That is nasty stuff! After you saying the penicillin was injected-I wonder if it was sulpher my brother had to take for pneumonia and over the years we mis-remembered it as penicillin? It was a white liquid and he fought like a wildman it was so disgusting! Did they give sulpher drugs back then for pneumonia? Mom is 92 and she may just think it was the other one!
