Carl Ludwig/Christian Schilling aka Lewis Skillings: He served with the Brunswick troops during hte American Revolution and is reported as having deserted the troops while stationed in Penobscot/Castine Maine in 1782. He was not alone when he deserted, several of his comarades went with him.written by the late John Merz of the Am Rev Hessians mailing list. Our family hunted many years for Lewis Skillings. Lues Schilling appeared in Woolwich,Lincoln County, Maine which is just down the coast from Penobscot, Castine Maine. Hannah Blagdon became the wife of Lewis Shilling on 31 October 1784. in the 1790 census he is Lewis Skillin the only one listed.His death on 2 August 1802 in the index of the Portladn (Maine) Gazette is Lewis Schelline. He was killed by falling limb or tree on his farm in Starks. He and Hannah are buried in Oxbow Cemetery in Norridgewock , Maine. 6 years ago EditDelete Write a comment.
