Dear Bob Meek and other Meek cousins, I am also stumped at trying to track down "our" William Meek, born in 1792, migrated from "the far north of Illinois" to Middle Tennessee in 1808, carved "MEEK 1808" on a rock in the Duck River near Chapel Hill, Tennessee, allegedly to recover the investment of his father who had sold mill machinery to someone who didn't pay for it, so "our" William took over the mill on the Duck River. He didn't return from a trip to New Orleans in 1834, presumed killed by bushwhackers or robbers or whatever. This line of Meeks is preparing a manuscript for publication, detailing the movement of "our" William's son James and family from Chapel Hill, Tennessee, to Weakley County, Tennessee, in 1848, and continuing till James' death in 1877. We have great documentation from James A. Meek (born 3.21.1816) forward. We will certainly notify everyone once the book is out. My close cousins and I are checking the facts in the manuscript at this time, and my husband is scanning the old manuscript into our computers. Can anyone shed any light on this line? Anything you can share will be much appreciated. Anne Meek Kraine Norfolk, VA
