Dear Meek(s) Cousins: I find Anne's comments interesting as I live about 45 miles NW of Charlotte, or about 30 miles North of Gastonia and am aware that there are/where many Meek(s) in this area. I also find it frustrating that I can find no connection of these Meeks to my Meek line. I am stumped at William B Meek who was born June 29, 1829 in (I believe) Greenup County KY. He married July Ann Trumble and migrated west and reported died fairly young leaving July Ann with 9 children to rear. The other interesting part is that my wife seems to be more closely related to this group of Meeks than I am. She has several female Tyson family members that Meeks men married in and around Pitt County NC. I guess you just have to keep digging and don't give up. If anyone has any ideas on William B I would appreciate hearing them. Lucy Womack Bates in "Soldiers and Patriots of the American Revolution Buried in Tennessee" (1974) reports that Adam Meek (called No. 2 in my brother's research, to distinguish him from the Adam Meek who received land grants west of Charlotte, North Carolina) was born in Londonderry, Ireland, in 1746 and immigrated through Charleston, SC in 1763 to settle on Waxhaw Creek just south of Charlotte. This area was a part of SC until 1771. This is the Adam Meek who moved to Jefferson County, Tennessee about 1786 and died there in 1828. Supposedly he fought at the Battle of Kings Mountain, as did several other Meeks. Kings Mountain Park is in SC, while Kings Mountain (the town) is in NC. There are still a lot of people named Meek and Meeks in that vicinity. There are a Meek Road in Gastonia, NC and a Meeks Road in Chester, SC. Have you tried this website? http://members.aol.com/chrismeek/Genhome.htm? I could send you copies of my brother's research. He is a thorough and scholarly person. I have just begun to get into genealogy so my grasp of all this is sketchy.
