Has anyone who lists Adam Meek b 1640 Lincolnshire, England actually verified the information? There is so much written that cannot possibly be true. When I have pointed this out to a few MEEK genealogists, they simply omit some dates which are obvious discrepancies and continue to pass on the misinformation. The information on Adam MEEK and the next few generations was first written by H B Meek in his 1902 book, "A MEEK GENEALOGY". H B MEEK gave no sources or explainations for the information contained in his book. In 1962 Carleton L MEEK wrote "MEEK GENEALOGY 1640 - 1962". He repeated the genealogy in the 1902 book by H B MEEK. This book also contains no source information. The information in both books is very suspect. Can anyone verify the information that is so frequently passed on? I find my father's name posted on several websites as decending down from Adam, Matthew, John and then Robert and so on down several further generations. The information is not possible. According to Carlteon's 1962 book the following is being passed on via the internet as true.. John MEEK, son of Matthew and grandson of Adam, is listed as born 1686 Ireland. When he was 58 years old, in 1744, he married Elizabeth MITCHELL. The book tells that their son Robert was born 11 years before they married. If this is true, then Robert was not likely the son of both John MEEK and Elizabeth MITCHELL. Robert MEEK is listed as born 1732 in Ireland. According to Carleton MEEK's book, Robert was only nine years old when his son George MEEK was born. Robert supposedly lived in several places across Virginia and Pennsylvania and died in 1838 at the age of 106 years. I believe the writer of this genealogy actually found several different men by the name of Robert MEEK and compiled their information into one person. If any one has actually verified their descendancy from Adam b 1640, please let me and other list members know your source of information. Thanks for listening/reading. Mary Ann Buswell
