    2. Charles Lewman or anyone else, Can you tell me about the Meeks in Illinois? Do you have any records of Meeks in Danville, Illinois, or thereabouts, who were in the mill machinery business? I am searching for my forebear, a William Meek, who settled in Chapel Hill, Tennessee, in 1808, on or near land grants given to Adam and Moses Meek. Anne Meek Kraine Norfolk, VA

    2. Dear Bob Meek and other Meek cousins, I am also stumped at trying to track down "our" William Meek, born in 1792, migrated from "the far north of Illinois" to Middle Tennessee in 1808, carved "MEEK 1808" on a rock in the Duck River near Chapel Hill, Tennessee, allegedly to recover the investment of his father who had sold mill machinery to someone who didn't pay for it, so "our" William took over the mill on the Duck River. He didn't return from a trip to New Orleans in 1834, presumed killed by bushwhackers or robbers or whatever. This line of Meeks is preparing a manuscript for publication, detailing the movement of "our" William's son James and family from Chapel Hill, Tennessee, to Weakley County, Tennessee, in 1848, and continuing till James' death in 1877. We have great documentation from James A. Meek (born 3.21.1816) forward. We will certainly notify everyone once the book is out. My close cousins and I are checking the facts in the manuscript at this time, and my husband is scanning the old manuscript into our computers. Can anyone shed any light on this line? Anything you can share will be much appreciated. Anne Meek Kraine Norfolk, VA

    3. Dear Meek(s) Cousins: I find Anne's comments interesting as I live about 45 miles NW of Charlotte, or about 30 miles North of Gastonia and am aware that there are/where many Meek(s) in this area. I also find it frustrating that I can find no connection of these Meeks to my Meek line. I am stumped at William B Meek who was born June 29, 1829 in (I believe) Greenup County KY. He married July Ann Trumble and migrated west and reported died fairly young leaving July Ann with 9 children to rear. The other interesting part is that my wife seems to be more closely related to this group of Meeks than I am. She has several female Tyson family members that Meeks men married in and around Pitt County NC. I guess you just have to keep digging and don't give up. If anyone has any ideas on William B I would appreciate hearing them. Lucy Womack Bates in "Soldiers and Patriots of the American Revolution Buried in Tennessee" (1974) reports that Adam Meek (called No. 2 in my brother's research, to distinguish him from the Adam Meek who received land grants west of Charlotte, North Carolina) was born in Londonderry, Ireland, in 1746 and immigrated through Charleston, SC in 1763 to settle on Waxhaw Creek just south of Charlotte. This area was a part of SC until 1771. This is the Adam Meek who moved to Jefferson County, Tennessee about 1786 and died there in 1828. Supposedly he fought at the Battle of Kings Mountain, as did several other Meeks. Kings Mountain Park is in SC, while Kings Mountain (the town) is in NC. There are still a lot of people named Meek and Meeks in that vicinity. There are a Meek Road in Gastonia, NC and a Meeks Road in Chester, SC. Have you tried this website? http://members.aol.com/chrismeek/Genhome.htm? I could send you copies of my brother's research. He is a thorough and scholarly person. 1. [MEEK] Researching Hayes, Rinehart, Meek, Wells, Meighen, McClaskey, and Watters
    2. I am trying to get information on the following individuals: Robert Hayes, born 1826 Ross County, Ohio, date and place of death unknown, married to Abigail Rinehart, born 24 Aug 1829 Ross County, Ohio, date and place of death unknown. I wanted to know if someone could look in the 1870 Ohio census to see if Mr. and/or Mrs. Hayes (may be spelled Hays) are in that census. I have one daughter, Emma Lillie, but was hoping to find other children. I believe that the Hayes died before 1875, but that may be a mistake. I am also looking for information on Samuel Hayes and Elizabeth Meek, married 1810 in Brooke County, Virginia (now West Virginia). He was born 1790, she was born 1793, but I have no date or place of death for either. Next, I am looking for information on Enos Rinehart (born 1808 Greene County, PA, died 7 Jul 1874, m. 1827 in Guernsey County, Ohio to Susan Meighen, born 1808 in PA., died 1888). The other names I am researching are Samuel Meek (1757 - 1838) married to Polly Wells (born 1761, no date or place of death), Samuel Rinehart (1778 - 1856) married to Armelia (1782 - 1846), John Meighen (1772 -1854) married Christena Watters (1774 - 1846), and James Meighen (born 1744) married Susan McClaskey (born 1746). Many of the names have been spelled several ways - Hayes or Hays, Rinehart or Reinhart, Meighen or Meehan, McClaskey or McCloskey. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. 2. Hi, just got some information about my aunt, Lola Meek, she was born 7 April 1915 in Idael, McCurtian Co. OK. Parents names Mart M. Meek and Nona Jeems. Mart might be short for Marty or Martin ? got this info from SS application. Lola Meek married a Barnett, don't know when or where yet, she applied for SS in 1941 in Gen Del Bulare California, (writing is hard to read) and says she was married at that time. That was her first marriage, she married my uncle later on, probably after WW2 his name is Elver Starr Hagerman. That's about all I know right now. Cidney
