The Maine Historical Society has an awesome library on Congress Street. They do lookups, probably for a small fee. I visited there a couple years ago and found the staff very helpful. I would bet the obits at least are indexed. The address is: The Center for Maine History Library Research Center 485 Congress Street Portland, ME 04101 I'm sorry I don't have a phone number, but I'm sure you can find it in the online phone book. I might otherwise write to the paper directly. They usually keep great archives and would photocopy the story probably for a small price. Hope this helps. My Aunt Pearl (Gladys Pearl (nee Chapman) Brown) was in show business and was traveling with her agent to the next town when he fell asleep and hit a tree. He was OK but she was thrown through the windshield and killed. This was in 1928. When not performing she lived in Portland, ME. with her husband Frank L. Brown and her 13 year old daughter, Elizabeth. I know it was written up in the paper because my grandmother showed it to me back when I was just a child. I would love to have a copy of the story and obit but have no idea regarding the actual date and all those that knew are gone now. Any ideas?
