    1. [MECUMBER] BARKERS & others- Maine to Georgia 1800's
    2. Larry Wise
    3. My great-great grandfather was William Barker born about 1800 in Maine who moved to Cobb Co GA (nw of Atlanta) by the 1830's, married a Georgia native- Nancy Dobbs (b 1815 d 1881) by 1841. Their children were: Louisa Barker 1841- 1879 Daniel W Barker 1843-1909 Andrew J Barker 1845-1917 Miranda Barker 1847-1874 William D Barker 1861-1934 Daniel and Andrew Barker served in the Confederate Army, William (60+ yrs old) did not as far as I can tell from the records. William Barker was in the 1860 census, by 1870 he was gone but his family remained in Cobb Co. Nancy Dobbs Barker and all of her children except William D. remained in GA their entire lives. I am trying to find where in Maine William Barker came from and which Barker family. He was a millwright in Cobb Co GA according to the 1860 census. Does anyone have Maine ancestors who moved to Georgia during the 1820-1850 time range? I thought perhaps some brother or brother in-law might have moved with William Barker but I have not been able to find anything so far. There was a gold rush in NW Georgia (1820's or 1830's) which might have drawn some men from Maine all the way to Georgia. Any help would be greatly appreciated, this seems to be a brick wall, Thanks, Larry Wise
